SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS!
WHO WAS AS EXCITED AS ME TO SEE STRANGER THINGS BARB ON THE SHOW?!?! I wonder if that casting happened before or after Stranger Things became a huge hit...anyway, it was just so cool to see her...even if her character's name was "Ethel" and she looked like...well, she looked like Barb but without the huge glasses. I feel like the casting had to be after the cult fame...
This episode felt like our first big detour from the Jason storyline and that they are trying to make Cheryl a little more likable than she was in the first two episodes. Also, does anyone else find this world so fascinating, it feels like the show has been on for years but it's only been 3 hours?
The Football player sex scandal storyline was a little cliche, I feel like we've seen that plot before, but it was worth it for the twist with Betty becoming Polly because that sequence got disturbing. Again, no one on this show looks like they are 15 (though does the actress playing Betty remind anyone else of Katee Sackhoff? She could totally play her daughter...)
I had hope that the Archie/Grundy storyline was done when it comes to them being a couple, but I guess the writers wanted to get them back together so that when Betty and Jughead have to confront her about being at the lake on July 4th, things can REALLY come crashing down. Like Jughead said at the end, he tries to protect Archie, but sometimes things happen and the truth has to come out.
I don't know why but the crazy survivalist boy scout leader kinda cracks me up even though meeting someone like that in real life would freak me out. Maybe it was just the casting.
As usual, I am in LOVE with Josie and the Pussycats. I loved their sequence with Archie, talking about him writing songs for them, making him understand the limits of his understanding but then not pushing him away completely. I could seriously watch them do their own show.
Yup, pretty much my guilty pleasure show right now! Does anyone know how fast CW puts them up for streaming? I've been watching them on Friday, but if they put it up on Thursday night after it airs, I would totally stay up late to watch it.

Date: 2017-02-13 06:05 am (UTC)I really liked the third episode, partly because Barb, but mostly for the Betty/Veronica relationship. I love how that relationship is developing and feels really organic. I'm not sure what to think about Betty's break with reality, but apparently it's been a fan theory for years that Betty is actually insane. Of course, with a mother like that, who could blame Betty for being a little crazy?

Date: 2017-02-14 04:33 am (UTC)I alternate Friday and Saturdays off so sometimes I get to watch it Friday and othertimes Saturday. Good to know.
Her Mom is so awful, I wish they would tone her down a little, it's getting to be over the top. Though if my theory, hay Polly is dead or insane now, is right I guess I can forgive her anger and desire for revenge.

Date: 2017-02-13 02:53 pm (UTC)I agree wit all you say! The Betty becoming Polly was disturbing... I love how the characters are not exactly as they're suppose to be, like Veronica: she looks like a Blair (Gossip Girl) but she's deeper than that... She's the NYC girl that dresses in a way and acts in another... Even Betty is not as innocent as she seems (and this will be interesting when it will be explored toward her friendship/relationship with Archie) And Cheryl has a lot of potential and I love that she's not 100% evil!
The Teacher is shady to me... The actress is very pretty and I want her glasses, but I can't wait for her to show her true colors... I think Archie is just a cover up and hooking up with him was just part of a very long detailed plan... I think she'll make a move on Luke Perry eventually (o he'll make a move... still I think something will happen between them).
Jughead is my favorite... (lovely hat) and Josie is a great strong character, but I wish she could tone it down a notch, I understand she has to be that way, but I think that she seems too full of herself at times! I wished they choose another name for the band though... I keep thinking about the Pussycat Dolls every time they mention their name! :(

Date: 2017-02-14 04:31 am (UTC)Lol Josie and the Pussycats were here first!!! When I heard of the Pussycats dolls, I thought of Josie (did you ever see the cheesy movie from the 2000s?)
Aw I wish we could watch together! I don't have cable, watch everything streaming. But I don't mind waiting to coordinate watching together sometime! Maybe when it's finale time???

Date: 2017-02-13 04:14 pm (UTC)I'd also like to see the Archie/Grundy storyline ended but it looks like her character will be front and center next episode so maybe that will get more interesting. Although I didn't read much of the Archie comics and I gather they've changed, I thought the changes re: Ethel were revealing.
In the original comics "Ethel is usually portrayed as gangly and plain" and tall with buck teeth. She is supposed to be unattractive. However, while now Ethel is portrayed as being taller and larger, she's meant to be overweight. It says a lot about the standards of beauty in our culture that a formerly stick thin woman must now be overweight since it's the other actresses who are abnormally thin.

Date: 2017-02-14 04:30 am (UTC)Very interesting about beauty standards...though I think Ethel is about as "unattractive" as a CW character can be - she's still really pretty just not paper thin. I didn't even register her as being unattractive just that she was not thin so high school guys would be mean to her.

Date: 2017-02-14 03:05 am (UTC)Also - I want them to keep Jughead asexual. I know he had a little romance with Ethel in the comics, but I don't want them randomly changing his character for views. NO NO!
I have a crazy theory that Polly is Betty's alter-ego and she takes meds to keep Polly at bay. Just a theory!

Date: 2017-02-14 04:28 am (UTC)Lol well I watch it streaming so I don't see the commercial for the next week so yeah, did not know that. I really hate how spoilers are in previews now, how annoying!
I could see that theory...or that Polly killed herself over Jason so Betty became Polly afterwards and then your meds theory...could work. Though kinda cliche?
