Finally watched "Ned Kelly" tonight. I'm still surprised there was never a wide release of this film, considering it had Heath Ledger, Orlando Bloom, Geoffery Rush and Naomi Watts in it. Also found it it had the actor who plays Owen Lars in AOTC. Of course, everyone is disguised in a thick beard (um, except Naomi) which makes them all look icky. The movie was interesting, and since the director said in the little documentary that he hoped the film would get people interested in the real story, it served it's purpose. Unfortunately, hardly any books on Ned Kelly are available in the US. He's a huge part of Australian history and pop culture, but otherwise forgotten elsewhere. I'd really like to get a copy of the Ian Jones biography. Amazon.uk has it, so maybe when I order Rosencrantz & Guildenstern I'll pop that in too. I was just happy to see his "black knight"-like armor. I know there was so much more to that story, you could tell which bits were huge parts of the legend, just by how he filmed the scenes, but since I'm American, the resonance is lost. I want to read the book. Sounds like Kelly was an interesting character, either way you look at him.
The brothers from Texas were eliminated from Amazing Race last week. The one brother had hurt his knee, which I had forgotten about since I was totally caught up in the Bowling Mom's dilemma. Phil looked perturbed that he had to walk aaaaaaall the way out to the "roadblock" where the brothers where to tell them they lost. Mirna and Charla need to lose because I'm so *sick* of listening to them whine. Right now, Chip and Kim are the people I want to win, but because they are so nice, I doubt they will win.
"Dead Like Me" was great. The season seems to be moving along nicely. I'm not sure what I think of the gravelings looking at George in the pool. Did they choose her or did they just know she would be a reaper? Or did they just like her style. Daisy just keeps unfolding like a flower. She really reminds me of Cordelia. I watched "Out of Mind, out of Sight" today for my Buffy workout, and Cordy gives the little speech about how being alone with people is better than being alone alone. Our first hints that there is something more to her. Daisy is the same way. When she first showed up, I hated her because she was all pretty and snotty and stuck up. But as the show has moved along, we've had all these hints about how sad and lonely she is. Even Mason grew a bit last night when he helped convince the stubborn old man to pass on. Lots of stuff happening this season. So far so good.
As is custom, I stole a book from my grandparents while we were up in Maine. It's called "The Devil in the White City". I figured it was a murder mystery type book so I didn't give it a second glance in the book store, but my grandpa showed it to me, and it's actually the true story of this crazy serial killer who was chopping up young ladies during the 1938 World's Fair in Chicago. So one chapter is about building the fair and how hard it was to make it better than the other fair in Paris, then the next chapter this looney is selling people's bones for cash. real page turner though. I really do love nonfiction, but it's so hard to find well written non-fiction that doesn't put you to sleep.

Expect a lot of "Dead Like Me" icons tomorrow, as I'm working on a set as I type. TTFN
