So I treated myself to Spotify premium for the next three months as part of their special year-end deal. SO now I need some new music to explore! Please suggest some of your favorite musicians for me to check out! Or if you make playlists on Spotify and are willing to share them with me, hit me up on there (you know my naaaaaame).

To give you an idea of my musical tastes, some of my favorite artists/current top spins are:

The Beatles
Simon & Garfunkel
Panic! at the Disco
P!nk
Paramore
Ed Sheeran
Sting/The Police
Genesis/Phil Collins
Thirty Seconds to Mars
Bastille

So, boys with guitars who write their own songs and feisty chicks LOL. But I'm pretty open to trying new things! I miss listening to up and coming bands like I did back in the day (or maybe I just miss that when they are nobodies, tickets only cost $10-$20 LOL)

No kidding about the change in ticket prices. A friend and I were discussing just that over the holiday. Although the idea of four people running up $100 dinner bill was also a bit 0.o since it happened several times this trip. But these days it's like concert prices start at $100.

Dhani Harrison, In///Parallel. He's also got a playlist of stuff that inspires him. Also Summer Moon who was his opening band and headed by Nikolai of the Strokes. Very 80s vibe. They're the two live acts I saw last year. (And amazingly the tickets were all of $20 plus $7 in fees. Unlike the $200+ to see Paul McCartney)

I also like Uni which is Charlotte Kemp's extremely glam band. Very T-Rex and Bowie influenced. (Their videos are pretty wild and directed by her)

As soon as I get in a device what has Spotify on it, I'll check for play lists to share.

Dhani's music is very very ecclectic. I really like his old band thenewno2 as well as Fistful of Mercy, and also the soundtrack stuff he's been doing over the years with his friend Paul Hicks. In Parallel is different again and probably one of my fave albums from recent years (save two songs because he insists on pushing his "friend" Mereki and she's just embarrassing on the stuff she's on plus her own material imho). I saw him live in November and it was an amazing show (I really need to post my photos here).

Here's Dhani's Sounds & Revelations playlist.

Mine is just all the George Harrison songs I could find so you might not want that one! :D

Mereki isn't fit to polish Yoko's shoes, lacks her education, her knowledge and her ability to do pretty much anything... so I'm not sure the parallel would hold. Not to mention John declared his love for Yoko from day one -- Dhani won't even acknowledge anything but friendship in public. ;) (I'm a big Yoko fan, if you hadn't noticed.)

I think it was partially that, and perhaps partially that he doesn't want to lose a lot of his female fan base over a new relationship (despite the fact that his relationship/marriage with his ex-wife had no bearing on that) or perhaps that some of us are aware of the timing involved... (M. showed up roughly a year before he suddenly and without any seeming warning filed for divorce...although he stopped wearing his ring a few months prior to the surprise announcement about the filing).

You might like her stuff. I just find her whole baby voice schtick annoying (and I don't like it from anyone), and her material weak. I've tried to listen to her solo stuff and it's just boring mindless dance music to me. Some of her older stuff showed some promise, but she went from sort of poppy punk to the EDM stuff. When I saw his show, she came out to do one of their songs together ("Poseidon") and the friend I was with who knew nothing about her or her material just turned to me and stared as if to say "wtf". It was a really embarrassing performance. There are some live videos he's done for radio stations -- KCRW and more recently WFUV and you can judge for yourself. YMMV! And honestly, no shade if you *do* like it!

I also can't remember if I rec'd Karen Elson to you. I don't think I have, but she's amazing. Double Roses is one of my other favourite albums from last year. It's in the folk-country vein (without it being pure country music), more of early Stevie Nicks type stuff. I know her first album is on Spotify too. She does a fantastic cover of "Season of the Witch".

Yay, new music! Well, you know what I'm going to say, probably. ;) So let me ask: Did you like your CD? And can I help you identify tracks from it? I dunno if you've plugged it in to see who's on it yet.

I really need to start using Spotify more effectively. I keep winding up listening to tehe same things over and over, and not really branching out from kpop. I should expand this year.

So...uh I don't really have any suggestions XD

Hmm, I think the part of me that likes Panic! at the Disco and Thirty Seconds to Mars is the same part that likes My Chemical Romance.
And the part of me that loves the Beatles and likes Simon & Garfunkel might be related to the part that really likes the album Time by Electric Light Orchestra. Maybe.
