orangerfulMy brother joined the Navy today.
Well, he *joined* over the summer but the Navy training is so backed up, he is just now going to basic. He's at a hotel tonight and tomorrow morning at 6am they will pack him and the rest of the recruits on a bus and drive them out to Illinois. Once he gets there, they will give him his training uniform, take everything he brought with him and mail it back to my parents.
I'm going to miss him a lot, we were just starting to reconnect after we had both drifted apart for so many years. But I'm really proud of him and glad that he has got some direction for his life. And I'm looking forward to the wild boot camp stories I'm sure he will have when he returns.
It is just surreal to think he'll be gone for so long. We went over for dinner last night as a farewell though he didn't talk about it much. My Dad was really quiet, I think he is worried about him but that is what parents do, right?
I knew he really wanted to play Illimat, a card game he got for Christmas that was created by the band The Decemberists so we all sat around and learned how it went. It took awhile to get the hang of it, but it was actually a lot of fun once the rules sunk in.
Just weird to think that I will go visit my parents and my brother won't be somewhere in the house. I'm sure they will feel the same way.
The really funny/random/ironic thing is that the job he is interested in has it's training here in Maryland so he'll be back in 8 weeks for that training before they ship him off to his assignment. I'm not sure if they will make him live on base while he is in training or what. He will literally be training five minutes from where we went to high school. The farther you run LOL.
Anyway...this is a month of thinky thoughts...February 2018, you are really making me think about all the things.
And now this song (and video) are going through my head on repeat...**pokes brain**
