I was going to post something light and fun but I just saw what the current president of the united states just tweeted and now I need to go throw up and then cry.
He makes me so angry and what makes me even angrier is how many people I know agree with him. I saw a truck driving down the street in my area with a Trump 2020 flag flying off the back. I was just in shock.
my father who -- has his flaws, sure -- is an otherwise very compassionate, helpful, and caring man. he's a die-hard Trump supporter. and he's educated and intelligent enough to know better too. it's just because Trump is Republican, in my father's case, I'm convinced.
That's so frustrating. My Dad used to be a Republican until "W" was in office, then he finally switched parties.
Tim's parents, on the other hand, are Republicans and they are middle of the country Republicans too which is a different breed from my ex's parents, who were more progressive in some ways.
I'm just sick of the "us vs them" dialogue, as though we are all not Americans, like we are all not citizens of the same country working to make it a better place. It is the lazy storyteller that just makes anyone that doesn't agree with him a villain.
He's just abandoned all pretense at this point I guess. Not that he ever had much--it's still mostly his willfully ignorant followers making excuses for him--but Jesus.
Yeah, and he isn't even rolling it back. He's just like "whatever, don't vote for me."
We just have to get everyone out to the polls this time. We all need to vote. No more close calls, we need a landslide to not only make him lose but hurt his pride.
And PLEASE GOD do not vote for THIRD PARTY CANDIDATES. Ugh. I hate that we only have two choices and one of them is Pure Evil, but this is not the time.
I understand how you feel. Both Trump and his hard core followers scare the heck out of me. :( I hope that someone who’s a better human being becomes President in 2020.
Even more depressing was reading the replies on Twitter to AOC's response tweet. It wasn't even like death threats or anything, just after she tweeted about it, a bunch of people replying (sometimes eloquently) about how she and the others were the problem, and how the LEFT were the ones that brought racism into it, and just a bunch of blatantly untrue things, but things that the people tweeting them obviously *believed.*
The reality of it all is that this was just a distraction. We were talking about the border, the camps, the children dying but then Trump just happened to tweet this inflammatory nonsense and we haven't talked about anything since.
He's a manipulative person and he knows how to get headlines. Better to say something extremely wrong and get that coverage than be appropriate.
