Well, we watched two movies in two days. Time to update the Netflix list. But first - a discussion:

So yes, we FINALLY saw "Finding Neverland". Maybe it was the amount of hype it had recieved, but even though I enjoyed the film I wasn't totally in love with it. Not like I thought I would be. I adore both Depp and Winslet, but I just wasn't head over heels for this movie. Perhaps it's because everyone had said it made them cry, so I knew Kate Winslet wouldn't survive the film, so no real shock there. I enjoyed the little flashes into Barrie's imagination, and I think they saved the film from turning into an "arranging matches" movie ("oh yes" "oh well,....I better go" "yes I think you better had.") Depp did a very good job, but he can do better, so perhaps that role is waiting around the corner. It just didn't really surprise me in any way. You knew he would write Peter Pan, that it would be brilliant, and that Kate Winslet would be six feet under before the credits rolled. Good to see once though, see it if you haven't seen it. There was a certain magic in it, but not enough to make me want to watch it again. Made me want to watch Peter Pan...why does the library not have the old Mary Martin musical on DVD!?

Tonight we watched "Love Actually", a movie I was sorta scared to watch. Let's face it, movies with "Love" right there in the title can be scary. "Chick flicks" ya know? But [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy actually said he wanted to watch it so I figured what the heck. It had every british actor ever in it haha. Plus the guy who played the porn stand in will be playing Arthur Dent in the upcoming Hitchhiker's Guide movie, so it was....um...interesting to see his other work. This movie, again, no huge surprises...love stories are love stories, but I enjoyed it so much more than FN. I'm not sure what it was exactly. The writing was just fun, it was cute, it had no "I am a FILM!" sorta feeling to it. It knew what it was, and it went with it. And it was really fun and sweet. It's the kind of movie that I'll probably catch on TV now and then and be like "one sec, just want to see that one scene" and watch a good chunk of the film.

So, yes, time to bump up two more movies on the Netflix list. I'm thinking "Closer", as [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy said he'd watch that one with me (Natalie Portman and Jude Law...okay!). Going over to the 'rents place tomorrow to have them double check my taxes...either maryland owes me $200....or I owe them....stupid maryland....then I'll probably swing by Target and Wal-Mart to see if they have any Star Wars goodies.

My mom bought me a Star Wars goody. The original Star Wars board game, copyright 1977. For a buck, at a garage sale.

That's pretty cool.
