So, everything went well yesterday. My friend from work showed up around 5:30ish, then we met
maybemanda and her sister around 6ish and had dinner at a place called 'No Way Jose'. Yummy Mexican food. Then we wandered over to the club and managed to find some seats and about 10 minutes later the opening act came on - Eric Hutchinson. He was, as his t-shirt said, pretty good. We had seen him before, I think opening for Rockwell Church at Jammin Java. He has a great sense of humor...and a really big nose! I hadn't really noticed last time because I was far back, but for this show we were actually seated above the stage so I could really see. haha. He's fun though, he knows how to connect with his audience. (according to his website, he's going to be opening for jason mraz...he'll be bigger very soon then) The second group, Alternate Rutes, was alright but they didn't really engage me. There was nothing wrong with their performance, but I just couldn't pay attention! I knew the Sixers were on next.
Unfortunately, the mics went crazy on their second song. See, the boys came out and opened with a quiet rendition of 'Blackbird' and when they went into actual song mode, the feedback went crazy. Stephen was freaking out, as this was his first time performing a solo concert in Baltimore and at this venue. He sorta had a fit on stage then said they would go offstage so it could get fixed (the sound was horrid, I will give him that). He also had a bad moment when someone yelled out a song request. Stephen said that they would play that later but first he wanted to play a song from the album before. The person in the crowd yelled back that they didn't know that song and wanted their song. *shrug* Stephen was a bit upset, saying that the guy can't blame him for not knowing the CD before this one.
It was a bit unsettling too that the club was the last in a pub crawl. We had some rowdy older people wandering around, just there for the free food, asking us who this band was.
but apart from all that the show went very well. Poor Kit stripped down to his long johns and danced the Napoleon Dynamite dance. That boy is insane. I hung out after the show and said hello to everyone.
( ramblings of a former band-aid )
