orangerful: (lara pwned bitch // orangerful)
I did manage to get a copy of 'Tomb Raider'. I actually found it on Saturday. We ran out to Target to look for a baking scale for [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy and we saw the game on their shelves. So then we ran over to Arundel Mills so I could use my gift card at Best Buy and then we could go to Bed Bath and Beyond and get a slightly higher quality scale than what was available at Target.

I've only played for about an hour but already I love it. I'm still a bit clunky with the controls - I've never gotten the hang of the L2,R2 buttons - but the game looks gorgeous and it's still a lot of fun. And it's old enough that I don't really remember where to go for certain quests, but at the same time, I remember locations and events (I knew that poor little Peruvian guy wouldn't survive the opening cut scene).

I keep having little flashbacks too. Tomb Raider was the game that really turned me into a hardcore gamer. My parents had an Atari, so I played with that. I had also played 'Wolfenstein', 'Doom', and even 'Heretic'. But even though those were First Person Shooters, I knew I was still a dude. Then Lara came around. Finally, I was kicking ass, taking names, and also a hot chick. It just felt so right, and it was fun. And yeah she was ridiculously proportioned, but she wasn't disgusting. (I find the Dead or Alive series, with the physics engines assigned to each boob to be a bit unsettling). The game was awesome, with its mix of puzzles and action. Lara was a mix of Indiana Jones and James Bond - searching for treasures, but a lone wolf with a license to kill.

I've never even bothered watching the movies. Heck, I didn't even acknowledge the existence of the model that Eidos used to dress up for Cons back when Lara was first around. Video Game Lara is the only one for me.

What are your top 10 most-played songs currently?

*opens up iTunes*  (though, honestly, I listen to most music in my car...and when I do have iTunes on, it's on "Party Shuffle" but anway!)

It appears that the Buffy musical is still dominating, with the Veronica Mars soundtrack in a close second....

Okay, need to take a break from the Tomb Raider, that was far too intense. Or, as that one comedian said -

"THIS AIN'T NO CUT SCENE BITCH, PRESS A!"

I saw Lara get her head removed by a T-Rex. That was upsetting. And I still cringe when I drop her down a dark shaft and hear her neck snap. Icky sound effects. Like I needed to feel worse for killing her, you have to use those ragdoll physics and make her corpse flop all over.

There seems to be some sort of exodus going on right now - lots of MySpacers sending me adds on Facebook. Many of them just graduated High School...I find that interesting.

The like the whole "Application" thing on Facebook. That's a cool way to integrate other sites into the system without making it unstable. And while I am sort of annoyed by the lack of customizing you can do on Facebook, as far as color scheme etc., it's still better than the fugly messes we get on MySpace that crash my browser.

Another thing that bugs me about Facebook is the lack of "screenname". I know it's silly, but I don't like seeing a site refer to me by my full name. I really prefer [livejournal.com profile] orangerful when I'm on a social networking sort of site. And Facebook is the only site so far that doesn't give you the option to make your display name different from your registered name.

I feel the need to change my layout theme again. Trying to decide what fandom to go with next. Kristen Bell has dominated my screen for awhile now. I'm thinking I might go BSG, or at least Starbuck...or at the very least, Katee. (Since she's my newest girl!crush).
