I'm not really sure how it started, but they are usually in people's user info as displays of fandom pride. Most of them say stuff like "such and such is love", but I changed that cuz I wanted to use the dork tower quote. Does that explain it?

I tried posting the color bar on my info page, and it isn't working... I must be doing something retardedly wrong here! lol

Did you upload the colorbar to your own personal server? i.e. something like photobucket.com or the livejournal photos section (I'm not sure if that's for all accounts or just free accounts). Then you gotta replace the code with the address of the picture.
