Aug. 21st, 2005 06:28 pmLet me just tell you all that the DCSWCC ROCKS! I had such a blast yesterday at their summer social. I wish everyone could have a club this organized and this friendly in their area. I came home with bags of goodies and the warm fuzzies for that group.
We actually had name tags this time too, which was a big help for everyone, since most of the time we just talk online and have no clue what anyone looks like. Now that I was clearly labeled "Sam Z / orangerful" it made life a bit easier since no one had to do the odd "um...what's your name again?" moment. I know I appreciated it. It also helped a heck of a lot with the Name that Youngling Game. Do you see me in there with my tauntaun toy?
And the next challenge for you -- can you find me in this picture? (hint: I'm next to
jimithingy).
There were lots of little kids at the social. Most of the group seems to be at about that age where they seem to have kids between the ages of 0-6. I was amused, as the little girls all went over to the coloring table and socialized...learning each others names, favorite colors etc. The boys grabbed foam lightsabers and started whacking each other with them. hehe. A few of the girls also picked up sabers, but they were never as determined to hurt anyone as the little boys where. Not really sure what to make of that.
The club had a little grab bag for paid members. We got a coin from the California Lottery. Mine has R2 on it, but I might trade it at the next meeting for a Yoda. And maybe pick up a Leia. They also made card backs special for the event. I know it sounds silly, but it's actually really cool. It looks like the original packaging from the old Droids cartoon figures, but instead it says "DCSWCC" on the top, and has the date and a picture of Chewbacca on the washington monument! It's just so cool.
In the sarlaac swap, I managed to get 3 RotS figs that I didnt' already have! (Jett Zukasaa, Captain Antilles and Utuapaun Warrior). And in the sponsor raffle, I won a Grievous Unleased (though I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it or trade it for something else). Also had a few deals go down too -- got my Yoda folder from Deb who had found them at K-Mart a couple weeks ago. Scott picked put a Lorne and Wesley action figure for me. And Tim, Tim gave me ALL of his BtVS and Ats comics! He was a hard core collector too, I have two copies of most of the issues with the different cover art, plus a few mail-aways. Very very sweet.
I watched 'Parts : The Clonus Horror' MST3K episode last night. Ooooh, that movie was BAD. But I have to say, they definately should be sueing 'the island' creators. It's pretty much the exact same movie for the first hour. 'Island' is better, but that's no saying a whole lot. If you've already sat through 'the island', get the mst3k show and watch it because it's quite amusing. If you haven't seen 'island'...well dont' worry too much haha.
Last night we also played a bit of Guild Wars with
simontrueheart, who was freakin hilarious...and actually quite a good player too. Even at 1:30am in the morning!
Today we saw '40 Year Old Virgin', which my buddy Becky had reccomended to me last night. We actually wanted to see it anyway, as we're fans of Steve Carrell and it had an 89% at Rotten Tomatoes last time I checked. It was really funny. And actually, kinda sweet. It earns it's R-rating, but it's actually not as offensive as it could be. The 'Serenity' trailer was in front of it too, so I was giddy for that. Poster is up in the lobby as well, and I kept pointing at it, in the hopes that some random person would see me and say "wow, she seems interested in that film, perhaps I should be to!".
Series Finale of 'Six Feet Under' tonight.
Now....Guild Wars, God of War, or Sims 2. Life is full of tough choices on a lazy sunday evening.
