everyone hail to the pumpkin song!
Oct. 31st, 2005 10:11 amHAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYBODY!
I'm planning on spending my halloween relaxing at home (since I work until 5) and possibly wearing kitty cat ears around the apartment just to amuse myself. Probably round off the whole night with some trick or treating in Stormwind.
I'm at the library right now, with my halloween bracelet and rings on. My cat ears are downstairs in my bag, but I paniced when I didn't see anyone else dressed up. But now that I'm out on the floor, one of the other librarians is all decked out in cat gear, so I'll have to put mine on after lunch.
*sigh* I miss halloween in a neighborhood. I miss the little kid trick or treaters. They were always fun. Last time I handed out candy, I had my halloween mix going in the background, playing twilight zone and psycho and things like that. I even tossed in Buffy and Angel for good measure, cuz, you know, they can be scary! It's always fun to see who people dressed up as.
My parents were never into the store bought costumes. They were very DIY in that matter. Everything was either hand sewn or put together from old clothes. I was a mermaid one year, (pre-little mermaid too!) with a blue tail my mom had made with some sparkly fabric. She also put some blue stuff in my hair and tied it up weird. Then she took her stuffed toy lobster (her parents live in Maine) and tied it to my roller skate, so I could drag him around with me. I don't know why that costume sticks with me, maybe it's because I have pictures...
I was a unicorn one year too! I wore white sweatpants and a sweatshirt and my mom mad me a tail and a horn and some hooves for over my hands. I think from that same pattern collection, she also made me a bunny costume with a little nose mask with whiskers and paw gloves.
Oddly enough, I don't think I ever actually dressed up as a star wars character for halloween!
My dad was Indiana Jones for many years. That was his old standbye for taking me out trick or treating, just tossing on his brown fedora and getting out his bullwhip and leather jacket. It's such a simple yet perfect outfit. One year, the parents came to the pre-school dressed up. My dad was Indy but I couldn't find my mom. Turns out, she took some cork and burned it and rubbed it all over her face to make a beard, then she put on a hat like Indy wears in the desert in Raiders (it's not a turban...what are they called??)
and I totally thought she was a dude. Freaked me out. haha. I don't really remember it that clearly, but I think I ended up crying or maybe just staring at her and not understanding until she took the makeup off (I was only 3!!).
Then there was the one year I was a total party-pooper and was too cool to dress up, but decided last minute to go for it, so I ended up wearing my mom's cloak from Ireland, which has a hood, and carrying around my walking stick that I bought at RenFest which has the unicorn head on top of it. I think
zauber_vz was a Knight, also using his RenFest merch.
I also did the classic cat outfit - leatard and ears with drawn on whiskers - for handing out candy one year. Then I met
jimithingy and his parents had their halloween party...um...which I know I dressed up for. One year I was "Harriet Potter", a somewhat psychotic looking witch, with pig tails, a lightning scar and round glasses. I wore my old Drum Major dress for that. I was a pirate before that.
zauber_vz was a Jawa one year, and that was awesome. He had the lights for his eyes, the brown cloak, everything. It was very cool. He also dressed up as the Phantom of the Opera before that. That was a neat-o outfit.
So what have you dressed up as in the past? Or what are you wearing right now? No wait! that sounded dirty! I meant, for halloween! Tell me about some of your all time favorite costumes or trick or treating memories!

Costumes and Memories
Date: 2005-10-31 07:36 pm (UTC)Other costumes:
- Sorceress (but nobody knew what I was even though I had a magic wand--wtf?)
- Bride Ariel from the Little Mermaid (mom wouldn't let me have the mermaid costume cause she thought it would be cold)
- Pink Power Ranger (two years in a row)
- Sailor Mercury
- Jane from "Daria" (my friend was Daria)
- Olympic Gymnast
- Wednesday Addams
- School Girl (last year's costume.. last minute b/c my Tinkerbell costume didn't come)
- Padme!!! :D
In 7th grade I decorated our front yard Blair Witch-style. I made a bunch of those "Twiggy" people, pitched a tent, and had lots of little rock piles around the yard. It looked really cool. Another year my dad made a giant spider out of garbage bags that sat over the door, which came in handy since it was a bit rainy that year. ;)
I didn't get to dress up in high school because we always had play practice on Halloween, but through those years I was a cowgirl ("Oklahoma!"), a Follies Girl ("Crazy For You!"), and a half-fairy--we didn't have REAL practice that year (just costume organization), so I wore my fairy wings. One of my friend was Wanda, Where's Waldo's girlfriend, and she looked exactly like her.

Date: 2005-11-01 03:08 am (UTC)The picture of me and my friends still exists. There was a jawa with real blinking eyes (which was pretty impressive back in the day). A leia with perfect cinnabon hair. Our Luke had the same page boy cut and was accessorized pretty well. The only lame costume was Vader, who just had a black sheet pulled around her like a cloak and hood, and then blacked up her face a bit. The weird thing I just realized, though, was that in an amazing feat of prescience, in the picture we have of her she is posing exactly like near-Vader Anakin, with her face half cloaked. And this was back before RoTS was even a thought, or Hayden Christensen for that matter.

Date: 2005-11-02 04:04 am (UTC)this year i was a angel and/or fairy. i wore a halo, but the wings were more fairy like. anyway i got lots of compliments, mostly cause the wings looked awesome. i'll post a picture on my LJ of it later...
in the past beginning from when i can remember i've been a pumpkin, lady bug, flower, ace of hearts (yes a card), cat...and more recently a witch, black mage (well i wasn't going for that initially but that's what i ended up telling people by the end of the night, haha long story).
that's all i remember for now.
