Interesting interview with Sir Ian McKellan. He comments on the success of 'Brokeback Mountain' and how he feels, while it may lead to more movies about homosexuals, he doubts that actors who are homosexual will be cast in the rolls.

You scored as Jean Grey. Jean Grey is likely the most powerful X-Man. She loves Cyclops very much but she has a soft spot for Wolverine. She's psychic so she can sense how others are feeling and tries to help them. She also has to control her amazing powers or the malevolent Phoenix entity could take control of her and wreak havok. Powers: Telekinetic, Telepathic

WOw! We have towo Jean Grey's. Kick ass.

On the serious side... I'm really torn about this issue. On the hand , it's "acting". People are pretending to be something they aren't. That's what it's all about. But on the other hand, sometimes it gets out of control. Like when Native Americans were played by white people all those years, or blacks were played by people in black face. My thing is it's all about the talent. I'm not upset about openly gay people not playing gay, I'm upset about openly gay people not playing anything at all. Where are the out actors?! Come out guys. Sir Ian is really the only a-lister out there, amid a whole bunch of guys who I like but can't remeber the'r names right now. Wait, B.D. Wong. But you see my point. And on the flip side, gay actors can play straight quite well. Witness Nathaniel Hawthorne in "The Madness of King George".

exactly, and I think that was what Sir Ian was lamenting, that there are gay actors but Hollywood is so "old fashioned" in it's thinking that if you say you are gay, you won't be cast for anything because they think American audiences won't believe a gay actor playing straight or want to see a gay actor playing gay.

And I felt like his comment about NYC was interesting, pretty much saying that the stage community has less of an issue with people being gay/lesbian.

It doesn't make any sense. I mean, they are ACTING either way! Just hire the people. How many brilliant actors are out there now not being cast because they are gay, or going thru a brokeback mountain lifestyle - passing as "straight" to get jobs but dying a little inside each day because they have to hide a part of themselves from the world.

Or is it just that tabloid magazines don't know what to do with gay people? Maybe they control everything! Where would they be without promiscious heterosexual couples???? DEAR GOD, THE NATIONAL ENQUIRER IS BEHIND EVERYTHING THATS WRONG WITH THIS PLANET!
