went to see Cary Brothers and KT Tunstall. Cary was alright, I had only heard 'blue eyes' off the 'Garden State' soundtrack, which he sang. But his other stuff was just alright. [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy said his microphone was crap, which was screwin him a bit, couldn't handle his voice.

I have to say, I'm not very fond of Ramshead as venues go. I've been to so many superior venues that Ramshead just upsets me. Mostly because they have those damn waiters running around during so much of it. And the room is just built weird. Plus, you end up sitting with people you do not know because of the table set up, which weirds me out. We have two nice couples with us, though the one guy kept wanting to show off is iPod Video, to the point of showing us the Today show clip of the girl that was about to play. We mocked him on the way home.

Anyway, so this KT Tunstall chick. [livejournal.com profile] dstntp1lgr1m has sent me her MySpace page which had a clip of her on some british tv show doing a song. It was here all alone on stage, armed with a guitar, a tambourine, and some looping petals. It was pretty darn cool, so I was excited to see her perform. But when we got to Ramshead, we noticed a whole lottal equipment on stage. In fact, far too much equipment - drums, guitars, keyboards....turns out, she has a band as of right now. So, the cool, independant girl that i came to see, became a lead singer backed by far too many people on stage. She has a really great voice, very Melissa Ethridge meets Norah Jones - husky. And her tunes were fun, but the band was just annoying when you come to see someone perform solo. Soooo I'm downloading her album now to hear what it sounds like. I mean, she just beat out U2 and Coldplay in the british version of the grammys so she's gotta be good! Right?

Yeah the album sounds very much like it is backed by an actual band.

I guess she may end up as another artist that gets the same treatment that Jason Mraz did.

Nonetheless, she seems very talented to me. :)

yeah, the tracks I'm listening to off the album sound well mixed, but it doesn't sound like as many people in the band as were on stage.

Jason Mraz had 75% of his band prior to getting a major record deal, so they had chemistry and were best buddies and it was awesome to see them laughing and joking on stage. Howie Day, on the other hand, was given a band after signing on a major label, which pretty much had nothing to do with his original music. So it changed his style/music etc.

Of course, then he turned into a total dick, but I am unsure if that can be blamed on the band either....

Anyway, I think I'm just upset that I missed that stage of her performing but full band mode could be good in a better venues.

yeah, I think what's going on right now... Major Record labels are doing all they can to stay alive, and well.... the general masses want to see more than one person on a stage..... I eventually see a major decline in record labels, and with it the blossoming of some very true (even though small scale) artists.
