well that answered that question!
May. 4th, 2006 03:21 pmPreacher: Dixie Fried came in for me today, all the way from the Carnegie Free Library of Swissvale
And my question about how a library can carry the Preacher comics was answered, at least for this small library in Pittsburgh.
There's a small sticker on the front that reads "SHELVE BEHIND DESK", the words underlined in red ink.
Now, my question is, what if a kid comes up and ASKS for the Preacher comics, do they deny their existence or hand it over? Hm...perhaps I shall email the library and find out!

Date: 2006-05-05 06:03 pm (UTC)doesn't really matter too much here as we don't carry Preacher, or any real hardcore comcis for that matter. So far, I'd say 90% of the comics I've read I've had to order from outside our county. So I'm curious to know how they deal with their more mature selections. You'd need a pretty big desk to shelve it all behind the counter. I wonder if this library does ID patrons, or at least looks at them and sizes them up. This is the first one that I've recieved with an actual note on it saying to hide it, all the prevous Preacher's haven't said anything.
We don't really hide anything here. I've moved the adult comics into their own section, but our adult comics are mostly the darker Batman and Punisher books. Nothing that could get us into trouble, were pretty conservative.
I did order 'Y the last man' volume 1 with my collection development money. But I don't think that needs to be hidden behind a desk. No armadillo rapes in that book.
