I think I melted my brain.
Jul. 21st, 2006 11:42 pmWell, today walked a fine line between disaster and good time. We were all set to go down to Virginia for the Rockwell Church concert. As a bonus, we were going to get peking duck at Duck Chang's, as part of
jimithingy's (somewhat belated) birthday dinner.
So we're heading out to the car and I'm getting ready to grab my connecting cable from my car so we can plug my minidisc recorder into the soundboard when
jimithingy's car decides to do...well nothing. Well, it made a horrible horrible noise but it refused to actually start. This was not good. While his AC wasn't working 100%, it still worked, while my car's air conditioner hasnt' worked all summer.
So we suck it up, roll down the windows in my car, and head onto the road. My car isn't so bad when you're doing 50 down 95 - but it's 3:30 on a Friday and we hit 495 and everything slooooooows doooooooown. So we're sitting in a hot car, getting hotter by the minute, on a very hot and busy road. And we're melting. By the time we arrive at Duck Chang's, we're pretty much big ol' sweaty messes.
But we do arrive and the place is empty. We're in that lull between lunch and dinner. But they seat us, turn up the air, and turn on the lights. We order a half a duck and it's really really yummy. After our meal, we head over to Tysons Corner, just to kill time before the concert (which is about 10 minutes down the road from Tysons). In keeping with the days theme of everything just going a little bit wrong, I miss the turn for the mall and have to drive down and turn around.
Anyhoo, we wander then we head down to Jammin Java and get our seats. A table right up front, very nice. JJ is has it's air on so we start to cool down.
jimithingy gets all set to record the show. That's when he tells me that I brought the wrong cable. *headdesk* So we can't plug into the soundboard like we'd hoped, but I still have my mic, so we balance it on our table and point it at the speakers and hope for the best (it sounded okay in the car, I'm sure he can fiddle with it in his studio programs). The show went on, Nathan and Joti sangs songs from all the albums plus a few new ones. But, brilliant me, I sat right under the fan and slowly started to freeze. By the time the show was winding down, I was shivering. Not my best plan ever. Joti did mention the website though, and someone cheered for
jimithingy, which made me all kinds of proud. The concert ended relatively early, as another band was going on at 10pm, so we didn't get to chat with Nathan or Joti as much as usual, since the club owners chased us outside. :(
All in all, an INSANE day, but fun. I'm exhausted now, just from driving in the heat. I need to get my AC fixed, but I don't know why I'm going to do that. I'll probably wait until
jimithingy's car is operational before I take it in, just in case they decide to keep it.
Now I am going to go read for a bit then pass out. Tomorrow's my saturday to work and it's already looking like a crazy day, since we're short staffed do to vacations and a part time person dropping out on us. I should probably stretch out before we open since I'll be dashing between the info and circ desk most of the day. ;-)
