Last night, we saw the movie that everyone has been talking about - you know the one with the good looking lead actor, the villian all dressed in black, with a little bit of a romance story and a final battle on the rooftops.

Hot Fuzz.

The movie was so much better than I had expected. I mean, I liked 'Shaun of the Dead' - but I think I enjoyed 'Hot Fuzz' more. Perhaps it's because I've seen so many more "buddy cop" films so the outlandishness of it all really worked for me. I felt the script stayed on track a bit better with the silliness (I've only seen 'Shaun' the once, but I remember feeling like it got a bit serious at one point). In 'Hot Fuzz', even the serious moments are a bit silly! But this movie was HILARIOUS! Everyone in it acted their little socks off and it had so many laugh out loud moments, I don't think there was a time when I wasn't giggling (well, apart from the times I was gasping and going "EEEW" - these guys do love their icky moments).

Yes, go see this movie. If you're walking over to see Spiderman 3 and the line is crazy long, just get a ticket for 'Hot Fuzz' instead. You'll have a good time. :)

SPOILER ENCODED

One big problem, though: in the big nighttime scene, if the fat guy didn't know what was going down, why did he do the bit with the notebook and the thing? We get the AAAAHH moment, and it's a fake out, but then why would he....you know....in front of the whole town? Was it to save Nick from them? And if so, why was he so incredulous aftewards?

that's true, that moment was a bit...off. I know I was like "wait, what?" after he let's Nick go, but then it was all about him leaving and then coming back to kick butt, so it worked. So I forgive them for that ;)

Yeah, I guess faulting the film for one mistake is like throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Most films don't have that privelege, but Hot Fuzz was really good.

exactly. There are a lot of other movies I've seen where a fatal mistake like the above would just make it unwatchable. But everything else about Hot Fuzz is so solid that it's hard to fault the entire film for it. They make it work in the end.
