oh noez! Tomb Raider was bumped back yet again!!! And I was all excited. I gave [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy my gift card and asked him to go to Best Buy for me and they told him it would not be released until the 12th! *cries* He did grab the new Paul McCartney album for me. Now I'm getting all nostalgic for my fab four. I've only given the CD a quick listen while dinner was being made, but it sounded like Paul - simple, fun melodies meant to be bopped along to while you're just hanging out. This might spark a Paul mix for my iPod. I haven't listened to any of his solo stuff for awhile (or Wings, for that matter)

(For those of you that don't know, I was a hardcore Beatles fan for most of my teen years. I watched the Anthology over Thanksgiving break and just fell in love. I was struggling to find my own music at the time - I had been mostly listening to whatever my mom had lying around so a lot of Sting, Phil Collins, Monkees (stop laughing!) - so they became my musical obsession. I actually credit them for getting me my job since I went to the library all the time to get more and more Beatle related books and CDs. I now own almost every album on CD, most of McCartney's solo stuff, a few Lennon CDs, and Harrison's 'All Things Must Pass', (sorry Ringo), plus Hard Day's Night and the Anthology on DVD)

And I had something else to say....something deep and important...and now I've forgotten...ah well.

OMG THE MONKEES FTW! HAHAHA <3

My mom had a bunch of tapes of the show and I used to watch them ALL THE TIME when I was little, so I went through this "HOMG THE MONKEES TOTALLY PWN THE BEATLES" phase...which is kind of embarrassing because it's so not true. So I didn't get into the Beatles until a couple years ago just because I REFUSED to like them, because I was convinced the Monkees were the shit.

Sad but true. Sigh.

haha, yeah, my mom was a little too young to really *get* the Beatles when they were big, she was much more into the Monkees, so she had ALL of their records. I listened to them a lot as a kid (oh who am I kidding! I own 3 of their CDs now!). I remember watching the TV show, it was so silly and fun. I put the DVDs on my netflix list for later. Talk about guilty pleasures.

But Beatles pwn the Monkees, it's true. Because Paul wrote some sappy songs, but nothing as sickeningly gooey as the stuff that Davy Jones sings on some of those albums (I have to skip 'I wanna be free' gag reflex, haha)

lol so was my mom. And between her and my dad, they probably have all their records too. I love records! They should totally come back in style because that would rock. Records and Roller Skates. OMG I would die.

lol I know, some of the Monkees songs are just..ick. At least later they kinda started doing better stuff. I REALLY liked the movie 'Head' (well, after my mom explained it to me XD) I don't really like any of their newer songs. Like the ones on Justus. Especially that one Peter sings "I BELIEVE YOU. I BELIIIIEEVE YOU." for the whole song. Ugh.

old school Monkees all the way. I totally had a crush on Mike Nesmith when I was little (before I even knew what you really did with a boy, I just knew he was cute and had a guitar and that felt right).

And for some reason, I still giggle like an idiot when I listen to 'Gonna Buy Me A Dog'.

I had a friend go through a hardcore Monkees stage when we were in high school and she made us watch 'Head'. I don't remember anything except being confused haha.

Haha I'm lame and liked Davy at first, but I quickly switched to Mickey cause he's the best. I like Mikes hat though :) And Mike aged the best, I think. Cause Mickey just looks horrible and old now :(

My mom used to sing me 'Pillow Time' when I was really really little at bedtime <3 I don't think I've ever heard 'Gonna Buy Me A Dog'. I don't know a lot of their songs by the titles though.. *shrug*

OMG I went through such a Beatles phase back in the day. Seriously, I've got that huge-ass Anthology book. All my friends thought I was so weird. But now they listen to them just as much as I do now that they've grown as people. IN THEIR FACE!

I have that book too! It's lying on the bottom of my all-Beatles shelf along with several other large tomes. Though half of my Beatles book collection is still at my parents house. I have a lot of stuff. :\ My favorite book is over there - Hard Day's Write. It had all the backstories to the songs, such a fun read.

haha, at least your friends eventually got it! Took them awhile...but they all come around. ;)
