Okay, so I'm catching up on shows for the week I was gone and this week. Here are my thoughts on what I've seen so far (and some of you might have heard this already in other comments I've made):

Chuck - Fun show, but can it really work for a whole season? Seems like it might have made a better 90 minute movie. I like all the actors though. I'm watching it for the actors because the plots are full of cheese.

Reaper - See the above; very cute concept but not really a lot of substance there. But the actors all amuse me, especially the devil. So I will keep tuning in.

Pushing Daisies - okay, I've only watched the pilot. It feels like something out of a Roald Dahl book as interpreted by Tim Burton while he was on some sort of anti-depressant. I like the actors, especially the main guy. The girl reminds me a lot of Zooey Deschanel (in my mind, I keep calling her the Poor Man's Zooey). [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy was worried about the constant narration. I'm hoping as the season goes on the voice over man will back off a little.

House - what a pleasant surprise!!! I am loving this season of House. I love goofy!House and silly!Wilson. I was tired of Foreman/Cameron/Chase so I don't mind seeing House just run around and be silly. But now that Foreman was fired from his new job, will he show up again at the hospital? I hope not. :\

Heroes - wake me when Kristen shows up because this season so far has been snooze-fest. Not a whole lot I can say here that has not been said already. And I know the guy who created Heroes claims that he's never read an x-men comic but dude, pick one up because you are ripping them off left and right and you clearly think its something new. Maybe you could get a few pointers. *gets into her Nissan and drives away*

Bionic Woman - I watched the pilot. Twas very meh. Heard very negative things about episode 2 so I keep putting off watching it. I just want to see Katee. *sigh*

Office - you know, I doubted that Jim/Pam would work once it happened. I was so wrong to doubt. I love them even MORE! Tonight's episode "Launch Party" was hilarious! Andy's song at the end was great. Michael is still painful to watch, but everyone else just cracks me up.

30 Rock - I now love Tina Fey. She's just too funny all the time. She has such a good ear for writing dialogue that sounds like people speak. I mean, tonight she said "my internet was being weird!" and I just cracked up because it sounded like something we would say. So many shows fumble when it comes to sounding natural. And Will Arnett was on so BONUS! I <3 30 Rock.

Dexter - I've only watched the first episode of this season but boy did I miss this show! Michael C. Hall is just so good as Dexter. Fantastic cast all around. And OMFG they found the bodies!!! I cannot wait to see where this season goes!

I have Dirty Sexy Money on the DVR to watch. We didn't realize that Nate (from Six Feet Under...I can't remember his real name and I"m too lazy to look) was in it, so we'll watch it for Nate. I've been hearing a very positive buzz about it.

Yeaaah... when I was explaining the what each "Hero" did to Joe's roommates, I realized how much they were like X-Men. lol. One of them even said, "Oh, so Peter is like Rogue?" *headdesk*

I'm not actually watching any new shows this year... I'm just really watching Heroes and Grey's Anatomy. Haven't even been into Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters all that much. :\

Yeah, [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy always asks me "so which xmen is this guy?" Though, when you think about it, there are a finite number of cool superpowers. Eventually you'll just get the guy who can make tea out of anything.

None of the new shows have made me say OMG you MUST watch but I'm hoping after a few episodes, I will have stronger feelings either way. Not the best crop of new shows ever. Ah well.

This would actually be awesome. Would (s)he be limited to one kind of tea, or would multiple kinds be possible depending on the item (s)he is turning into said tea? I imagine that Sylar would love to use this power against Mohinder to get him back for the TEA OF DEATH incident in Season One. ^_^

Based on the fact that Sylar's hair stayed up on Lostaway Island in the humid jungle, I'm convinced that he has some kind of super-hairstyling power. I bet that's the power that Molly's dad had.

You know, I really need to make an icon for my cracktastic theories...

LOL, you should make those icons! And I would use them! I need some Heroes icons!

Hm...yes, this hero would have the ability to create all kinds of teas. They would use him as a decoy while Molly escaped thinking Sylar wouldn't bother him/her, but then Sylar would suddenly want tea, and he would steal his power just so he could have some earl grey HOT before killing everyone in the world!

I really love Pushing Daisies. I even like the narrator, because he makes me think of the narrator in HitchHiker's--like when the whale is falling out of the sky? Plus Ned got attractive in the second episode where I didn't find him that way in the first. lol. And Kristen Chenowith? She cracked me up in the second episode. She's making me a fan. Anna is so pretty as Chuck too.

I keep driving to where I can use the wireless to grab screenshots for icons, and then will make them here when I can't get my computer online. Of course, getting screencaps is slightly second fiddle to getting in a few hours of WoW here and there. ;)

Chuck and Reaper are cute, but I'm not OMG YAY! Chuck I like for seeing Adam Baldwin. haha. The little Reaper guy is kinda cute too, so I will watch.

Bionic Woman...is slowly getting more interesting, but maybe that was since the episode this week had a lot of Katee in it. Again...I don't know her, but she's cute. I like the character too.

Ugly Betty is also still made of yay. Supernatural did a little better tonight. I miss the Office, but I plan to buy all seasons on DVD for it anyway....so it is okay. ;) Plus they tend to rerun. Which is great.

LOL, at least your priorities are in line! WoWz first, icons later! Too bad your libraries don't have the free WiFi like our system does. We pwn.

I still have not seen a single episode of 'Ugly Betty'. Maybe one day I'll Netflix it. I've seen about 6 Supernatural episodes from season 1 but then didn't get the next disc from Netflix. I figure I'll pick it up again over the summer.

Someone posted something about how Chuck and Reaper are pretty much the same show. They both have the geeky main guy with the whole secret mission-ish thing and the quirky best friend. I like Chuck, but really the only reason I'm watching is for Adam Baldwin. Reaper is much better, I guess because it's funnier. AND I LOVE SOCK. AND SAM IS THE GUY FROM 'GROUNDED FOR LIFE'. And the devil is the most awesomest devil ever. I love when he won Sam the ham XD Yeah, Reaper is just better.

Pushing Daisies is SO GOOD! You should watch the rest! :) I really like the Narration, it's kind of soothing. Very Roald Dahl-ish, like you said. Kind of makes me think of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the new one) (It feels like something out of a Roald Dahl book as interpreted by Tim Burton while he was on some sort of anti-depressant. That's like, the *perfect* way to describe it!) The show's cute, but it isn't too cute, but it feels like it should be. But it's not. Which is good. Anna Friel reminds me of Zooey too! Sometimes I look at her and think it is Zooey ^^;

Yeah, I'm not a big Heroes fan, but I've been watching this season just for Kristen and so far I pretty much agree with you. I'm already tired of Maya and Miguel. She does the bloody eye thing and Miguel undoes it. I THINK I GET IT. It's only happened EVERY EPISODE SO FAR. Ugh. And especially now they have that "cure". Um, ok, yeah, that's not X-Men how?

!! Have not seen The Office yet! D: (Stupid Job!)

I think I really need to start watching Dexter...

I know 'Sock' has been in a LOT of shows. A lot of shows that didn't last a whole season (Dead Last anyone?). I like him though so I hope this show lasts! It is just FUN! And as long as they keep it that way, I have no problem watching it. :) Chuck has the potential to take itself too seriously, and if it ever does that will be its end.

YOU NEED TO SEE OFFICE! so good. Jim/Pam *sigh*

Dexter is also made of awesome. If you can find a way to watch season 1, do so immediately.

What, you're not watching Life? You know, the only reason I tried it at all was because you mentioned it, and I was thoroughly addicted after about 10 minutes. I'd really recommend it. And it's on just after the blah Bionic Woman. (If you don't have them recorded but want to catch up, the episodes are online just like Heroes.)

O rly? I had actually avoided 'Life' because...well, it felt so wrong to see an actor that I like who was clearly hired because he sorta kinda looks like Hugh Laurie playing a character with a similar bad attitude...it felt like they were trying to trick me into watching! I may have to set up the ol' DVR though, if you say it sounds good. As long as it doesn't conflict with anything else that is taping, whats the harm? ;)

Well, given that I have no idea who Hugh Laurie is or what show/movie/whatever it was where he played some kinda badass, I don't mind at all. :-)

seriously???? You've never watched the Blackadder series? Or House M.D.? House is the show on Fox where Laurie hides his british accent and instead does a snarky american one (which the actor from Life is also doing since he is british...I don't know his name, we still call him 'Winters' since that was his character in Band of Brothers)

I had sucha crush on Hugh Laurie when I was a kid. He's just so silly. Very smart guy too. Oh who am I kidding, I guess I still have a little crush on him. :)

Never seen Blackadder, or House MD. I looked up the name on IMDB (I love the IMDB!) and recognized his picture -- I saw him in Cousin Bette, Sense & Sensibility, and Life With Judy Garland. That's it. So I do know who he is, just not by name or via the normal routes. (...As per usual, with me.)

I don't think Damian Lewis (that's his name, btw) looks like HL. And anyway, part of the joy of that show is that it's not all about him -- many of the recurring characters are interesting, and there are two VERY strong female roles. Trust me, it's worth a try.

I have to say, so far I am loving Pushing Daisies. I didn't watch the pilot until a friend of mine from work told me how good it was, so I checked it out on the ABC website (I need DVR!), and now I'm hooked! I love how colorful everything is, it kind of reminds me a little of Amelie. I personally really enjoy the narration, it gives everything that storybook feel I think. And I thought the same thing about the resemblance to Zooey Deschanel! I hope it doesn't end up getting cancelled, although it probably will :/ I guess I'm just a little worried it's too quirky to make it. We'll see!

ABC seems to have put a LOT of money into promoting the show so I'm hoping they will stick with it a bit longer. They have a better track record than Fox ;)

Oooh, yes, you're very right about 'Amelie'! I haven't watched that in forever, and I own it on DVD! But the resemblance is definitely there!

It feels like something out of a Roald Dahl book as interpreted by Tim Burton while he was on some sort of anti-depressant.

Okay, I'm laughing, because that's very close to something I said about the show in my LJ today. It has a very "Tim Burton, only squeeful-er!" feel about it.

I am loving this season of House and, yeah, I'm mainly tuning into Bionic Woman at this point for Katee (and any other BSG actors that Eick may decide to recruit I AM NOT KEEPING MY EYES PEELED FOR JAMES CALLIS WHERE DID YOU HEAR THAT THE SHEEP ARE LYING), and just so you know, there has been a lot of her in the past two episodes. This week in particular, she got to be all sorts of awesome crazy. Also, the show is starting to embrace its own camp more, I think, which really helps.

Ha- I like Tea Man for a superhero.. (his tagline would have to be "Don't call me Teabag Man".. ok I just made myself giggle..). The whole "limited number of superpowers" thing reminds me of when Seinfeld was arguing with George about whether Superman, by definition, would have to have super humor.

Anyway, re The Office, I've been disappointed thus far. Although, I'm glad they were brave enough to get Jim and Pam together, and I'm fine with how they're handling that. (but I'm bummed that we never got to see what happened at dinner after Jim got back from NYC. I feel a little ripped off- three seasons of build-up and they get together off camera? Unfair! I'm hoping that we get a flashback at some point.)

But I'm hating almost all the Michael stuff. It's just way too over the top and not fun to watch. I don't know what the line is with him and when it's crossed, I mean, I liked the episode last season when he was up on the roof, and that certainly wasn't subtle. But for some reason the Michael scenes haven't worked for me. The worst was when he went back for the gift basket in the second episode. I really thought they were setting up a different ending.. with the look that guy had given Michael when he remembered his daughter's food allergies, I thought they were setting Michael up to at least get one win. So that made it even more painful. (on the one Office group I read, everyone agreed that they wished they'd turned the TV off at that point.)

I do like how they've set up Ryan against Michael, since it's not a clear good guy- bad guy thing. It will be interesting to see where they go with that. I'm still predicting that they're going to give Michael a small win, at least I hope so. On the other hand, they're definitely playing to an internet savvy crowd, so maybe they'll just keep laughing at Michael and Dwight as the stoopid people who fearz the internetz.

Other than that, I haven't watched any other shows on your list! I'm intrigued by the fact that geeky guys seem to be the big thing this season, but I haven't checked out any of the shows. It seems like the network folks have finally figured out that it pays to play to the geek crowd, since they're the ones that get obsessive about shows. It will be interesting to see if that lasts. Meanwhile, since I recently heard that Two and a Half Men was the most watched show (or maybe just sitcom), there obviously is still a huge audience for dreck.

I was looking through my channel guide this evening and noticed that a new sitcom was debuting starring Christina Applegate, in which she plays an amnesiac who learns that her former self was a horrible person. I'm thinking, ok, great book or movie idea, but a sitcom? That's good for, like, 5 shows, max, and then what?

Well, you might not want to get too comfy with any of the new shows - the big buzz going around is that the writers will all be striking on Nov 1st, and SAG and the Director's guild will follow shortly after. I'm hoping the studios will come to their senses before it gets ugly, but as [livejournal.com profile] impalalove posted on her blog, back in 1988 something similar happened and we were in rerun land for 3 months!

I totally agree with the Michael thing. If you just ignore the Michael bits, this season has been good so far. "Launch Party" was a solid hour of comedy last week but I felt the first two shows of the season were stretched too thin; they should have been 30 minutes episodes not 60 minute (or 45 whatever!). Ugh, the gift basket was a horrible HORRIBLE plot idea. Made no sense. The same idea of old vs new with Dwight vs the Computer in this last episode worked much much better. (And Michael even got his little moment of victory by telling Ryan off and having someone congratulate him on it later). But, yes, the Michael stories have just been way too over the top to be tolerable.

I pretty much won't watch a sitcom unless someone tells me too. 'Office', '30 Rock' - these all happened because of word of mouth. I cannot stand a laugh track or the stupid humor that usually dominate the "top viewed" comedies. Honestly, I didn't even know 'Two and a half men' was still on!

I have not seen "Samantha Who?", the Applegate show you're talking about. In fact, I hadn't even heard a buzz about it until last week. I like her but I doubt I'll watch the show. My line up is fine as it is!!! Plus, now I'm downloading the BBC Robin Hood s2 since it just started in the UK!

You might like 'Dirty Sexy Money'. It has the worst title ever, and the worst time slot, and it's clearly too smart for its own good - but the first 3 episodes were solid entertainment, and it actually appears to have a plot that will last a season!
