Irony - the fact that most of the movie icons that were used during that opening sequence were not from Oscar winning movies (or at least, not for the big "movie" "actor" nominations...I think most of them had special effects oscars).

Jon seems to be doing well so far, he's making me giggle.

Also, montages make me tear up EVERY TIME!

I have found myself losing intrest in the Oscars more and more every year. I have been flipping back and forth between the SVU marathon on USA, and SVU has been winning :/

When Cate didn't win anything, that sort of killed it for me.

I missed the tribute though, which is something I really wanted to see!

It's over now, and I thought Jon did great! The humor worked and was very much him, but he didn't make the show all about him-- he got out of the way and moved things along. (although it still was as long as ever.. hmm..)

I had kind of forgotten the song from Once, but after hearing it again it reminded me of why it was ok that the movie was pretty much a 1.5 hour video for the song. What a great song and those two seem so cool.. And have they ever invited someone back to finish their thank-you speech before? That was great, but now everyone else who gets cut off is going to be like, hey, you gave that Czech chick extra time, why not me?

Jim also tears up at montages- must run in the family. How did you do with the binocular and periscope montage?

oh the binocular montage! I was bawling my eyes out! the memories!

Yeah, now I want to buy the soundtrack to 'Once'. Or at least hear it again. We rented the movie and I liked it well enough. I was surprised how happy I was that they won! I was getting misty eyed! It was the only song that could be sung out of context though.

I was proud of Jon for bringing her back on stage. I mean, they orchestra started so she gave up and then they stopped but it was too late, so she probably had a bit of time. And at least she had something nice to say! (and a Czech/Irish accent is awesome. I want one! haha)

I really thought Jon did well this year. I felt like the show was moving right along. Only parts that I fast forwarded thru were the 'Enchanted' songs (except for when Kristen Chenoweth was singing because she fascinates me).

Good to know it's hereditary. I had a tear moment when they showed the old footage of Speilberg getting his Schindler's List oscar. I remember that night. And Steven was all adorable wiping his eyes as they went back stage. He's made some duds in his time, but I still love him and he's probably one of my all time favorite movie directors ever.

Ah, glad you got to see Once. Now I can tell you that one thing that amused me was that I kept expecting a tragedy to happen, and it never happened. I was convinced that: the girl would crash the bike; the band would implode; the tape would be destroyed and it would be the only copy; the band would get into a horrible car crash when joyriding after being up all night.. But none of that stuff happened. It was a twist on the classic boy meets girl story: boy meets girl, boy and girl hit it off, boy and girl start band, everything goes well for boy and girl until they part amicably. And yet it was very watchable.

ok, that makes sense that Marketa probably had more time and was accidentally cut off early. Other than that, I don't see how they could have justified bringing her back, although I'm glad they did. I really wish they wouldn't cut people off so soon.. sure it's boring to hear them thank everyone on the planet, but it's their moment! If anything should be cut short, it's the lame jokes the presenters tell! (altho I noticed there was less of that.. maybe the writers strike was a good thing?)

oh, and one more thing- the Irish-accented English spoken by a native Czech speaker is charming, but it pretty much wiped out the first 20 minutes of the film for me. I noticed last night that it was much easier to understand her- either her English has improved, or she was playing up the Czech accent for the film.
