Yeah, he's made several comments like that. I think in the Vanity Fair article he said something like "The critics already hate it." It has to be tough. He's right, people tend to take these "comeback" movies far too seriously and out of context. Even though the originals were just fun times, they grade the new ones like they should be Citizen Kane!
lol, nothing like a little prequel wank to lighten up the day. Yeah, they weren't the best things ever, but they could have been a lot worse. I'm sorta over it. I enjoy them on some level, like seeing old friends after a really long time. The Original Trilogy is more sacred to me and I get more upset about him fiddling with it.
I'm hoping the triple threat of Lucas-Spielberg-Ford keeps Indy from falling into the same problems. I know I'll be too ecstatic after my first viewing to even think straight.
