So, I'm going to do something a little crazy. There's a position open for a Young Adult Services Librarian in Harford County, which is about an hour north of where I live. I'm going to send in an application and a resume next week. (Pet Peeve: PDF forms that cannot be filed out online. BLURGH!)

They say they will "consider" applications from people who are within 6 months of getting their MLS. And I am right on that line.

But who knows what will happen! If anything, this will give me a chance to brush up on my interviewee skills. Had to dust off my resume and cover letter and update them with all my latest adventures. I love where I work but this place looks sorta cool too. Ya gotta grab these things when you can, ya know?

I think you have a lot to offer. If I remember correctly, Harford's doing some really interesting things in the teen librarian realm, and you know we'll just never have that.

Yeah, I know they are heavily involved in Great Books (Amy just went to the Bel Air branch for a meeting and says it was gorgeous). We will see what happens. I'm trying to stay calm. Don't want to count my eggs before they hatch, ya know?

Good luck and let us know how it goes. I work in the Curriculum Collection at my University. It's the lab where student teachers can get all kinds of kids materials from games and books to puppets. YA is a great area to work in, plus the books are FABULOUS!!

Yeah, I've been hooked on YA fiction for over a year now, so I have the Readers Advisory skills, I've made YA programming for our branch so I have those skills, and I clearly know a thing or two about this "Internetz" the kids love so much...my only worry is they would see that I would be having too much fun at my job. Is that allowed??

That sounds great! I can't imagine a better person than you- old :-) and experienced enough to be professional, but young and cool enough to still be tapped into the YA world. You've already done so much in that area, and you've done things to bring kids into the library, which is probably what they're looking for. You should highlight your YA book reviews too.

The commute could be a bitch though, with gas prices and all. Think you guys would move?

I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Right now I just want to see if I can get an interview haha. Yeah, I think if I actually got the job, I might suffer through the commute for a little while...we've already renewed our lease for the apartment so we would have to break out of it, so I might just deal until next year. But we shall see. Trying not to get ahead of myself!
