something just occured to me....
Jun. 21st, 2003 02:27 pmI'm in the Meade High School of radio stations. No really, we are a lot better than we look. If you came into the studio right now, you'd see a leak in the roof that is dripping on a large clump of wires, a sketchy as hell unisex bathroom, and pretty much a radio station that is a step behind in technology.
But this is not necessarily a bad thing. I think a lot of this computer crap has really screwed up radio and disc jockeys have become mindless babblers. Sure, I can take the weekend off now since I voice tracked the rest of Sunday and Monday today, but there will be no one in the studio if someone wants to request a song. We can't do weekend contests cuz no one will be here to answer the phone. We can't talk about anything important because it might be out of date by the time it airs.
I've watched Matrix. I know computers are evil. We really need to do something about this. This XM stuff is just lazy radio. And if you think about it, it's just like cable TV - and how often does that offer anything worth watching? Sure, you've got Six Feet Under, but for every hour of that show, you have days and days of total crap. Say with this XM stuff. Sure it's got "no commercials" (though I don't really believe that) but it's also costing you money for stuff that you could get for free. And how much more music are they going to play? I bet there will be stations that are all one artist just like cable has channels that are all one topic. Ridiculous.
anyway, back to me Meade metaphor. If you walk around the station, the DJs probably aren't the hottest or cleverest and their website is kinda lame, but if you listen to the station (as most people do) you'll find a great selection of music that you don't find on the Clear Channel stations who voicetrack their jocks in other states. yeah.
We rock.
I gotta talk about Bruce being at Norris Ford and tell people we might be off the air Monday cuz annapolis is turning our power off - how ghetto is that?
Norah Jones tonight!!!!!
