it is time (2008 Mix track list)
Dec. 30th, 2008 12:21 amI think that a lot of people have their 2008 Mix CDs now, so it is safe to post the track list. No peaking if you haven’t listened to the CD yet!!!!
drum roll please
1. Bodysnatchers - Radiohead “In Rainbows” --- One of my top albums of 2008. I originally started the mix off with 15 Steps, but then realized they used that song for the closing credits of Twilight: The Movie and immediately switched it out. hehe.
2. Again & Again - The Bird and the Bee “The Bird and the Bee” --- Favorite discovery of 2008. I bought the ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ soundtrack and their song “F*cking Boyfriend” was on there and I loved it, so I went and bought the album (something I never do) and lucked out because the whole CD is so different and cool.
3. Joy Ride - The Killers “Day & Age” --- Okay, to be honest I barely got a chance to listen to this album before I made my mix. But there is something about The Killers that really appeals to me, and ever since Rock Band I’ve really been into their CDs, so I had to include something from the new album. Plus, this song is just fun to sing along with.
4. Why Do You Let Me Stay Here - She & Him “She & Him Volume 1” --- Blame
faeriesfolly; she is the one that made me away of Zooey Deschanel and her multiple talents. The video is oddly hypnotic and twisted too.
5. Who Did You Think I Was - John Mayer “Where the Light Is” --- John Mayer still rocks my socks after all these years. He has mad skillz on the guitar that cannot be denied. This concert CD, which featured an acoustic solo set, a set with his trio, and a full band set is just a amazing showcase of his talents.
6. Never Want to Say It’s Love - Dido “Safe Trip Home” --- Another album that I only got to have a quick listen to before the mix creation process. I really love Dido’s voice though and I thought this song was a good pick. The whole album is a little slow and chill, but that’s okay if you just want to sip some wine and stare at the stars.
7. Nine in the Afternoon - Panic! At the Disco “Pretty. Odd.” --- I avoided them for so long, but they just kept popping up on the flist, with my friends, and finally on Rock Band 2! I could no longer resist! Plus, when I saw them on ‘Live from Abbey Road’ and they talked about how their record label wasn’t going to let them come to Abbey Road because it didn’t target their demographic, and they said “screw you” and went anyway...well, how could I not like them.
8. Think About It - Flight of the Conchord “Flight of the Conchords” --- Brett and Jemaine rang in 2008 for AD & I: we watched the FotC marathon on Showtime until midnight. I wanted to pick a song that was quirky enough to be understood without the episode. Season 2 coming soon!!!!
9. Bad Things - Jace Everett “True Blood Theme Song” --- Clearly we’re entering the tv/movie tie-in portion of the mix. Even though I was singing it incorrectly (“I wanna do bad things to you” when it is actually “with you”) this song just got the show rolling and stuck in your head afterwards. The opening intro is so creepy and disturbing, but like a train wreck I cannot turn away!
10. If You Want Me - Glen Hansard & Market Iglova “Once OST” --- We didn’t see this gem of a movie until 2008, even though
bittertwee was telling us to watch it back in 2007 (she’s hip like that). The music is so beautiful. I think everyone has probably heard “Falling Slowly” at this point, so I picked our other favorite song.
11. Your Eyes - Neil Patrick Harris & Felicia Day “Dr Horrible’s Sing Along Blog OST” --- OH COME ON HOW COULD I NOT INCLUDE DR HORRIBLE!?!?! Now, along with worshipping all this Joss, I must bow before the awesomeness that is Felcia Day and NPH. I think this might be my favorite song from the musical.
12. That’s How You Know - Amy Adams “Enchanted OST” --- I watched this movie and sort of forgot about it until HBO got the rights and started to run it non-stop. Then AD got hooked on it and I was sucked into it’s adorableness. Giselle is such a sweetheart and Amy Adams is adorable. Plus, it’s been awhile since we had a good song from Disney. I love Pixar, but I really miss the Ashman/Menken era when we had beautiful broadway-esque tunes every year at the Oscars.
13. Dracula’s Lament - Jason Segel “Forgetting Sarah Marshall OST” --- Okay, so you probably need to see this in context to get it but I don’t care. It’ s a musical about Dracula...with PUPPETS! Just rent the movie. It is made of win.
14. Inside of You - Infant Sorrow “Forgetting Sarah Marshall OST” --- No, this is not a serious song (British comedian Russell Brand is Infant Sorrow), it’s all a joke, and, again, you probably need the context...so rent the movie already and get some context! sheesh!
15. Crazy - Jem “Down to Earth” --- This song has everything; a singer with a gorgeous voice, great lyrics, fesh beats AND A BANJO! I love me some banjo. Second favorite album of 2008, hands down.
16. Lollipop - Mika “Life in Cartoon Motion” --- Admit it, you danced around to this when it came on. It’s like he’s channeling the Jackson 5...yet there’s something dirty about it.
17. Serious - Duffy “Rockferry” --- I think Duffy will soon be one of my favorite female artists. She’s got a unique voice and look. Her sound is like a PT cruiser - it’s new but it looks old. Again, figured you would have all heard “Mercy” enough, so I wanted to try another one. This song is so smooooooth. Like butter.
18. Eh Hee - Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds “Life at Radio City” --- AD got this CD for Christmas last year. Neither of us really listen to DMB as much as we used to, but I thought this song was very cool. Dave is totally channeling his South African roots, it feels very tribal...
19. Driving Blind - Jay Clifford “Driving Blind” --- Former front man for Jump (Little Children), this was his first solo album. Jay has a great voice. I hope to hear more from him soon. Wish he’d tour a bit further north. :\
20. One of Those Girls - Avril Lavigne “Best Damn Thing” --- AD finally admitted his undying love for Avril this year and while it’s easy enough to roll your eyes at her...it’s much harder not to bop around when her album is on. “Best Damn Thing” is too much fun (then again, neither of us listens to radio so these songs don’t get played into the ground as quickly)
21. Nude - Radiohead “in rainbows” --- Top album so they get 2 songs in the mix. So spoiled. I <3 Radiohead.
22. All Along the Watchtower - Eddie Vedder “I’m Not There” --- The movie was long and ridiculous, but the soundtrack was awesome. Eddie’s version of ‘Watchtower’ is solid. Plus, I can’t hear this tune without thinking BSG, and we all know that show is about to end *tears up*
23. Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Astley “Whenever You Need Somebody” --- My Mom used to work out to this album all the time when I was a kid so YES I ADMIT IT, I KNOW ALL THE WORDS!!!! So I didn’t really mind getting Rick Roll’d. I hope you didn’t either. :)
HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope 2009 rocks as much as 2008.
lostacanthus has already got me off to a good start with her mix CD, please tell me about new bands/artists I should be listening to! I depend on my flist (because I hate radio).

Date: 2008-12-31 01:16 am (UTC)I couldn't resist the Vedder track. There are some other good covers on that soundtrack, but his was my favorite (well, his and the duo from "Once" but they had already made an appearance on my mix!)

Date: 2008-12-30 05:40 pm (UTC)That Panic! song is on the Heroes soundtrack... and Jace Everett was a free single of the week a few years ago. I was wondering why he was on this year's mix... (I haven't seen "True Blood.") And I definitely need to get/see Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
I love this year's mix. I can't wait to get it on my iPod. ^_^

Date: 2008-12-31 01:18 am (UTC)I was unaware of the Heroes soundtrack! Worth a listen? I tend to find a lot of new music through soundtracks.
Yes, you need to see Forgetting Sarah Marshall. It's too funny.
Glad you liked it!!!

Date: 2008-12-31 03:10 am (UTC)I like the Heroes soundtrack... it's got some of the original music by Wendy & Lisa in addition to some other stuff by Panic! at the Disco, Crystal Method, Imogen Heap, and I think David Bowie. I'd recommend that you check it out on iTunes, at least. ^_^

11. Haha I am watching Dr Horrible RIGHT NOW! NGL, this track inspired me to buy it. Not that I was never going to, because I totally was...eventually. BUT OMG I FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS SONG. I LOVE IT! So They Say is probably my second favorite song. I love when NPH and Felicia sing together <3
12. I love Pixar, but I really miss the Ashman/Menken era when we had beautiful broadway-esque tunes every year at the Oscars.

13&14. LOLOLOL I LOVE IT
19. I love this song! And I loved Rains in Asia from last year too <3

Date: 2008-12-31 01:10 am (UTC)Or maybe you're holding out for your BSG DVD? It would serve me right. My plan, since I feel bad for waiting so long, was to toss a few other things into the package. I have one thing, and was also thinking I'd try burning a CD for you. For themes, I can't figure out whether to go with "Bands I saw in 2008", "CDs I bought in 2008", or "Glasgow". Either way, you're stuck with some Belle&Sebastian- there's no escaping it!
