Just got back from the Sara Bareilles show at the Ramshead Tavern in Annapolis. Her set was fantastic. She played a few new songs, lots of stuff from her album Little Voice, a older song and did a cover of U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For". She has a great stage presence and lots of banter which made the whole show feel very intimate. Lots of cute little stories about writing songs and a really funny one about going to the Grammys. The entire set was acoustic, so she got to play with the style of each song. Very solid hour of music.

BUT, I gotta complain a little. Ramshead Tavern is a weird venue and I don't really like it. Sadly, they are the only place in Maryland that books performers I like. But the whole set up is awkward. It's a big dining room, and you book seats so if you've only booked two seats, you end up sitting with some random person. And our random person tonight appeared to either be drunk or on drugs or perhaps just a complete freak. Ugh, and I don't want to be mean, but he was FAT. He was HUGE. He was so big that the other couple that was supposed to sit at the table behind him left to go complain that they couldn't fit (and must have gotten a refund or been moved because we never saw them again).

I've also decided that I do not like it when people eat around me, especially when I'm not eating and ESPECIALLY people I do not know at all. Like, I don't mind AD eating, but this guy was like NOMNOMSLURPNOMNACHOSFINGERLICKINGGOODNOMNOM and my stomach was doing flips. Just yeck!

And to top it off, after he spazzed several times during the show, which scared me a bit, he had the nerve to complain after the show that Sara wasn't going to sign autographs (probably because of creepy-ass people like him ruining it for those of us that spaz more quietly). He actually said "I think we've earned it". DUDE, she just played a concert for you! Ugh.

BUT there is no "No Morons" rule for ticket sales so it's just the luck of the draw and sometimes you're stuck with people like that.

So, the short version: Sara Bareilles - YES! Ramshead Tavern - If I have to. Creepy Fat Guy - GO AWAY!

Ramshead is weird, crowded, and can be a pain. Though it was fun when we went to see Da Vinci's Notebook and they called it "The Undercroft." We were lucky enough to sit with a nice couple who were well-behaved. Pity you drew a bad seatmate. "No Morons" would be a good rule for many venues I think (including work--if only...)

Fortunately, as a hardcore folkie, my usual venues are the 333 Coffeehouse with its yummy desserts for $1 each and very polite people, and the Takoma Park Folk Festival--usually uber hot but such great folk/world/folkrock/protest music/whatever and it's *by donation*.

He actually said "I think we've earned it".

Is he a Harry Potter fan? Cause he sounds like some of those HP entitlement whores.

I really hate watching other people eat sometimes.

Sounds like it was an awesome show though!

EW~! I hate loud chewers. My Dad is a noisy eater, and I am so glad that we hardly all eat at a table together any more. lol. I can't take noises while I am eating...like I would completely lose my appetite when we first moved in with my grandparents. Just snot/throat clearing, nose blowing, coughing, open mouth chewing. Ugh. I learned quick to make a plate and take it in another room and turn the TV on.
