orangerful: (wtf jim's face // orangerful)

I had a dream last night that I woke up and decided I was going to Dragon*Con and went by myself (in my pajamas!). I met up with [livejournal.com profile] jellibean, though she didn't recognize me and was dressed as a baby, complete with a bib and bonnet...and then I went looking for Felicia Day but ended up wandering a vendors room...then I woke up.

So now I really want to go to Dragon*Con and part of me just wants to buy a ticket and just go on my own. I don't know if I have any close friends who are insane enough to make the trip with me.

Then this morning "Jessie's Girl" came on during my iPod's shuffle, and I realized, listening to the lyrics, that this guy is no in love with Jessie's Girl...I mean, he can't even be bothered to learn her name! He's obsessed with Jessie - he's in love with Jessie! Who knew Rick Springfield was so cutting edge with his song topics (or maybe I've been reading too many YA novels?)

I really want to start writing again...like stories and stuff. I'm so out of practice though, I can't seem to get started...anyone want to toss up a prompt or first sentence for me? :D

Maybe that could be our next thing...writing...challenge...thinger...

I've been a little stalled out lately too, and I have something I'm trying to develop from one of my recurring dreams that isn't quite working its way to the page like I want.

Also where is this Dragon*Con and do I have to wear my pjs?

Also also I have to tell my Mom about your eureka moment with Rick Springfield and see what she thinks. She was a big fan apparently. haha. I love that song. I totally think you're on to something there...

Dragon*Con is in Atlanta,GA and it's Labor Day weekend (Sept 4-7, I think?) It looks really cool, [livejournal.com profile] jellibean goes every year and always has some great stories. And this year two of the BIG battlestar galactica stars will be there, along with Felicia Day, and who knows who will sign on later (it always seems like they are announcing the awesome guests in August when I've missed the ticket-buying window).

Oooh in Sept? I think the law office is even closed on Labor Day.

That could be doable... (Plus that is the month my car is paid off.)

How much are tickets?

Here is the main website: http://www.dragoncon.org/

"Memberships" (which are for the 4 days http://www.dragoncon.org/members.php#DC_Memb) are now $90. Of course, we'd have to get a hotel too, but we would split that. Right now, the only hotel available with special rates (and probably walking distance from everything) is $185/night.

There are probably other hotels available in the area, but then we'd end up paying for taxis and stuff (I learned that lesson at the Star Wars convention - stayed outside the city for cheap but ended up spending $40 on cab fare each day!)

It looks really cool. Like, they have "fan tracks" http://www.dragoncon.org/fan_tracks that tell you what talks are going on with your favorite fandoms. And there are dance parties and stuff at night, random viewings (they did Dr Horrible last year) and general silliness.

Let me know what you think. I think you and I would have fun fangirling all over...you'd need to watch BSG so you can squee with me over seeing Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell! haha.

lol TAPS is going to be there.

I found a ton of names on the list thinger. I was like omg! haha. Plus Charlaine Harris? SOLD.

Although truthfully? You had me at road trip. haha.

Let's try and think of a ballpark number. Then I can start looking at what to save from each paycheck. XD

$90 for the 4 days.
$185/night (but with taxes etc might as well go at least $200/night so $100 each/night. @ 5 nights? $500~

Split the gas which we can estimate. (I figure your car gets better mileage than mine, but either way.) OR plane tickets?

Food.

Swag. (lol)

Whatcha think?

OMG Charlaine Harris? If I'd realized that I would have told you that first! LOL!

well, Monday is a short day so we could probably leave on Monday (I'm sure we'll be out of fun money by then anyway!)...so we just need the hotel for thu/fri/sat/sun night...

my car gets pretty good mileage...usually about $30-40 to fill up the tank (depending how much gas is down south! I think NC was more than MD when we were down there recently). It's about an 11 hour drive from my place to Atlanta, but I guess I'd have to come get you! My car can get pretty far though, I think I only filled up once...maybe twice on the way to Maine last year...

I prefer to drive because...well I like road trips! Plus, we won't have to stress about getting our swag home in a carry on! (and I get the feeling you and I would have fun with sing-a-longs, yes?)

The catch would be food...probably should plan for at least $200 there, yes? Swag...well, that will be up to you! haha. I guess anything you have left over haha.

It's probably safe to say...$1000 total saved up at the least? Yes? Does that seem right?

Let me know if this is for realz and I'll book the hotel and you can just pay me back...I should probably request off from work too LOL!

That's about what I was thinking.

You try and get me to STOP singing in the car. That will be the challenge! haha.

I think I can swing it, for real. Plus if we buy stuff at like...Sams to take (pop/water/snacks it will save on food spendage). I'm not planning to take off any time between now and then.

If I can put back $300 each month that would be $900, but I know that I could do a little more -- plus not eating out. haha. Why else work 3 jobs if not to go away on a road trip?

So take Thursday/Friday off work. Drive Thursday (I think it is about 5-6 to my house for you). If you wanted to leave on Wednesday, you could crash at my house. Then we could leave on Thursday. Just a thought since it would seem like a long drive.

Let me know what days to ask off, and I'll do it. XD

oh yeah, we can totally stock up at Sams, I'm all about that.

I didn't realize your house was so far away! LOL! Hm...*ponders* I could probably work a half-day on Wednesday then drive to your place, if you don't mind me getting there late in the day...then we could leave on Thursday (making a pitstop to get food and supplies) and just take our time driving south.

And I can just charge the hotel rooms and you can pay me back after the event, so don't stress over that part. (Plus, after we go, I will know where you live BWAHAHA!!)

Well, see how your work feels about you taking off Thurs-Mon...I'll double check on my end.

oh, and if you want to email me for a more private conversation, my addy is my username at gmail.

OMG I'M SO EXCITED! I HOPE THIS WORKS OUT!!! *SPAZZES*

Yeah, that was the thing that really made me want to go, she's not really a big convention person and I figure this might be the final BSG tour for the bigger name actors. If you want to see about kidnapping him, I can look into the 4 person room...

Ha- I think the crowd may be a bit much for him (the numbers, not the geekdom, although geeks in large numbers is probably not his thing either)

About writing- I know what you mean. I go through stages where story ideas keep coming to me, although I've never written any fiction (as an adult). Recently I've been watching a number of short films made by our students, which has made me think it would be cool to give that a try as well.

Yeah, I don't think Jim could take the geekdom, he always looks pretty freaked out when I start to fangirl LOL!

I'd love to try short films too...mostly its just getting going. I find it easier to talk myself out of stuff then to give it a try. :\ But I told myself if I got a dreamwidth account, I would use it for writing practice. So I need to follow through!

oh and also plays.. I said to my theater buddy recently "All the plays we see are about what it's like to be gay, jewish or black. What about me? Who's going to tell my story??" All I got was an eyeroll.

it was such an odd dream...LOL. I don't know where the baby outfit came from!

If [livejournal.com profile] faeriesfolly and I can get our act together, things are looking good! Just need to check with our respective employers and make sure we can skip town. :D I haven't been to a convention since CIII - and that was all star wars all the time, this will be the rest of my fandoms! haha.
