- RT @nprlibrary Smart Bitches Trashy Books interviews romance novel librarian. Great interview. tinyurl.com/lqm823 #
- @meerkatdon could have been a lot worse, we just did the first round of layoffs here. And all staff does Sundays as part of regular sched. #

- @viaggiatrice yeah, round 1 at least...since patrons are protesting branch closing, we're scared there might be more on the way... #
- why does the NJ transit site make it appear that there is no normal parking near the PATH stations?? #
- @juliebenz I hear you! Our couch is 20+ years old and has a giant hole in it, but there are just too many kinds of couches! #

Date: 2009-06-21 02:15 am (UTC)Because of weird rules here (union, I suspect) they lay off an entire class of people. So the two people who are part-time senior librarians got laid off. Also, any open positions (and we have forty-some) are not being filled. And the substitute budget is getting further reduced. It's pretty close to the bone already--our branch manager was out and 2 people left 2hours early today, and we had no sub at all.
Have fun in New York! And yes, PATH is wacked out. There isn't much normal parking near some stations that I recall--Hoboken has a garage, I think...

Date: 2009-06-21 11:16 pm (UTC)AD remembered where to go - Metropark in Islendin - big garage and not as far as Hoboken.
Yeah, I was scared that last hired/first fired would suddenly come into effect, then they updated the policy to be based on your performance reviews (whoa, what a concept!!!!)
They hardly ever have subs at BA...but I think they are probably a bit overstaffed...though they do have two job share kind of situations...

Date: 2009-06-22 12:29 pm (UTC)Last hired/first fired had me scared too but I was assured that in my county (1) nonunion staff would go first and (2) experienced children's librarians were hard enough for them to find; they wouldn't let us go.
