So, I went to get my haircut today. The planw as to get a new style and some random pink streaks. It was all very spur of the moment. I called Hair Cuttery when I left work and asked if they had any pink hair dye. I heard the lady ask her co-workers and they all said "no" so I asked if I could bring my own. She said she would look at it but I had to be there by 6:30pm so we would have time.

I drove home as fast as I could, dashed in, grabbed the bottle of pink hair dye, dashed out, and went to the Hair Cuttery by Arundel Mills. Nina was my stylist and she was really nice and funny. She advised me on what I might want to do with my look. She decided that the pink dye should work and that my hair was light enough that it should take. She also suggested regular blonde highlights along with that. I was like, sure why not! She started to apply the hairdye and the pink was really bright on her brush. She kept saying it was really gonig to show up on my light hair. We went through the whole process and...well, it didn't really show up that well at all. I'm trying to find it now, and I can't.

Luckily, she was really nice and said if I came back in later this week, she would do it again, no charge. THEN suddenly the girl next to me says "oh, here you can use this stuff" and she reaches into her personal desk drawer and pulls out pink hairdye. You could tell my stylist was like "wtf? where was that at 6:30!" but instead she said "hmmm...well, if you come back, we'll use that stuff". Then the other lady came over to see how the dying went and we said it wasn't as bright as we wanted and she was like "oh, well next time use the pink dye that I have in my bag in the back". Again, the stylist was very good and bit her tongue instead of saying "OMGWTF THIS WHOLE TIME" she said "oh yes, we will use that next time, if you want to come back".

I have Friday off so I think I might go back and try it again. Right now the color looks like I dyed it a few months ago and its faded. Not quite what I wanted. Still, always an experience. And she did talk me into an inverted bob, which wasn't what I was going to get but it looks really cute. At least, it looks cute now - she styled it for me. Not sure how it will look when I wake up in the morning with no intention of styling it.

what brand was the hair dye you had? most of the 'semi-permanent' manic panik/raw color/color fiend brands only do well if you bleach your hair first. there is something in them that "clings" better to "damaged" hair. the color will usually be brighter/last longer that way. i have done streaks in my hair w/o bleach but left the "dye" in my hair for a long time: over night wrapped in plastic wrap.
i sold crazy colored hair dye for 5 years :)

It was "Adore", AD bought it at some hair supply place in the mall. I figured my hair needed to be bleached but I didn't want to tell the lady how to do her job, ya know? If I go back, I might suggest it now. My hair looks light, but, like you said, those wacky colors seem to adhere to bleached hair better.

You went for a major change at HAIR CUTTERY???>!!!!

People walk into hair cuttery with very little experience. If I go for a trim there, I ask a lot of questions, and even then - I go to great clips.

I go to Tresses and Shears in Laurel. They are all cosmotologists, and really understand that different hair is.... different. I got a very professional dye and style there, and they really know how to make it work - and what wont work. And then I pay a lot - but I don't mind paying a lot to have a Hollywood quality hair cut.

I didn't know where any higher quality places are in Glen Burnie. :\ I think it would have worked if the hair dye I brought in was better.
