As usual, I didn't read the ol' friends list Friday-Sunday and I just spent an hour trying to speed read everyone's posts! SORRY!! I commented when I had something to say but otherwise, I'm not going to lie -

Forgot to mention this last week but PINK HAIR!

Untitled

Listened to the new Wombats album on repeat all week and I'm still loving it. They just have a fun sound. I am loving my Spotify subscription and I am considering keeping it after the discount period ends because 1) I hate music radio because it is the same crap ALL THE TIME and so hard to find new music 2) listening to NPR more than once a week makes me depressed and 3) being able to find new music by new bands or new music by bands I like that would never be played on the radio is a better way to start my day. So keep any suggestions coming of new bands/music/singles.

The weekend flew by but mostly because we may have imbibed a bit on Friday night so we slept away a good chunk of Sunday. It was funny because we had a couple glasses of wine and Tim brought up YouTube on his phone to play an old Shin songs for me that he had recently heard and then we fell into this weird pop/rock/alternative hole which then slid into this nostalgic 90s then 80s music video trip LOL. But it was fun to just be silly and dance around the A-Ha way too loud at midnight. THIS is why we bought a house, right? :)

Also, I apparently LOVE Zinfandel. I just gets you the right amount of tipsy.

My brother did the mandatory check in the night he arrived at Navy basic training - they have a strict script that all the recruits have to follow when they called home. So she got the call and he said "I'm here. I'm safe. You'll be getting a package from me soon. I will call again in 2 weeks." and then they have to hang up and hand the phone to the next guy. It is SO WEIRD in this world of being constantly connected to friends and family to suddenly be so cut off. I mean, other people leave for college or new jobs etc. but they can email you updates or post online about how they are getting by each day. But for this, nothing. It makes sense and I'm sure he's too busy/exhausted to post anyway (he barely posted about things when he was here!) but it is so strange to think that if I texted or called, no one would answer.

ANYWAY this is a busy busy week
  • Elementary school visit tomorrow for their Guest Reader Day

  • Leadership Training on Tuesday

  • Crashing a Community group meeting on Wednesday (they are using our meeting space so I'm supposed to go in and be a mole)

  • Eye exam + training on how to work with the homeless on Thursday

  • ESCAPE ROOM on Friday

It is all good because next weekend is my BIRTHDAY weekend. My birthday is on Sunday so I have taken off next Monday as my Birthday Observed. Which works about because Tim's daughter's birthday is also this week so we will be celebrating her birthday on my birthday when it comes to birthday dinner. So Monday will be my pick. Or Saturday. Not sure which. I flipped my schedule around to do the Escape Room program so Saturday will just be Sylvia and I without her Dad so maybe we will get up to some shenanigans - like sushi for lunch or a movie or something.

Have a lovely week everyone!

So, I went to get my haircut today. The planw as to get a new style and some random pink streaks. It was all very spur of the moment. I called Hair Cuttery when I left work and asked if they had any pink hair dye. I heard the lady ask her co-workers and they all said "no" so I asked if I could bring my own. She said she would look at it but I had to be there by 6:30pm so we would have time.

I drove home as fast as I could, dashed in, grabbed the bottle of pink hair dye, dashed out, and went to the Hair Cuttery by Arundel Mills. Nina was my stylist and she was really nice and funny. She advised me on what I might want to do with my look. She decided that the pink dye should work and that my hair was light enough that it should take. She also suggested regular blonde highlights along with that. I was like, sure why not! She started to apply the hairdye and the pink was really bright on her brush. She kept saying it was really gonig to show up on my light hair. We went through the whole process and...well, it didn't really show up that well at all. I'm trying to find it now, and I can't.

Luckily, she was really nice and said if I came back in later this week, she would do it again, no charge. THEN suddenly the girl next to me says "oh, here you can use this stuff" and she reaches into her personal desk drawer and pulls out pink hairdye. You could tell my stylist was like "wtf? where was that at 6:30!" but instead she said "hmmm...well, if you come back, we'll use that stuff". Then the other lady came over to see how the dying went and we said it wasn't as bright as we wanted and she was like "oh, well next time use the pink dye that I have in my bag in the back". Again, the stylist was very good and bit her tongue instead of saying "OMGWTF THIS WHOLE TIME" she said "oh yes, we will use that next time, if you want to come back".

I have Friday off so I think I might go back and try it again. Right now the color looks like I dyed it a few months ago and its faded. Not quite what I wanted. Still, always an experience. And she did talk me into an inverted bob, which wasn't what I was going to get but it looks really cute. At least, it looks cute now - she styled it for me. Not sure how it will look when I wake up in the morning with no intention of styling it.

So, I got the Kristen Bell haircut that I posted about last night. I'm still getting used to it. It's all bangs and crazy layers. They hairdresser told me how to style it so it would look more like KB in the photo so I might give that a try tomorrow since I don't need to be at work until 12:30. If it goes well, I might try to post pictures but no promises (oh crap, that reminds me...I need to buy batteries for my camera before I leave for MA/ME).

I'm freaking out about Friday. My manager asked me if I had seen the branch I was applying for and I said "no" and then she was describing it to me and I feel like maybe I should drive up there and look at it, but it's a 40 minute drive at the least and I have no free time this week at all and I don't really want to take leave to go drive up there (with my expensive gas), check it out, then drive back to work 8 hours. Hm. I mean, it's not like they will ask me about branch layout, right?

She also suggested making a list of things I want to mention for sure. I think this is a good idea. I'm going to work on that tomorrow night. Definitely need to write down the Page supervision, Volunteen stuff, the fact that my branch had no teen programming until I made them and how I teamed up with a local store to host our game night...ah so much to remember! I'm so getting to the interview early so I can see the questions in advance.

I registered for my last two classes today. Collection Development and Role of the Librarian as Instructor (or something like that). Then I will be done. DONE DONE DONE. At least, I hope so.

Okay, time to watch some BSG and unwind.....aaaaah

I only have 3 1/2 discs left in 'Amber Spyglass' and I can already tell I'm really going to miss all of the characters. I just put the audiobook version of 'Lyra's Oxford' on hold and now I'm ordering every single literary criticism book on the 'Dark Materials' trilogy that we own (and actually, I'm placing holds on a few that we don't own...yet). Right now I'm in the Marina catalog, seeing what other systems own and checking on Amazon to make sure they're actually worth reading. I just have a feeling that I'm going to finish the series, but only really understand a small portion of what is being said, so some follow up will be involved.

I can tell this is a series I need to own so I can read them over and over. I feel like I should read 'Paradise Lost'...but that seems like a lot of work and I am lazy. I think I'll just read the Cliffs Notes.

Oh, and I got my hair chopped off yesterday. Just got sick of the long hair thing. It's very Starbuck s1/s3 mixed together.

Also, I was bad and bought some toys. I was doing a pre-order for a friend, and in order to get the free shipping, I had to buy an in-stock item...and they had the Serenity PVC figures for $14 so I got them. They look awesome! I just put them on my desk, in front of the 'Serenity' ornament. Impressive sculpts for such little figures. They are just slightly smaller than a Star Wars figure. I also got Pylean Demon Angel for free with the order. He's...well he's ugly. He's a demon, for crying out loud. But he was the only figure I didn't already own that I wanted from the bunch. So, I have him now. Dunno if I will open him or not.

This week feels like its going by too fast already. I want my MacBook to ship!!!!! It has not been 7-10 business days yet though...*sigh* Hopefully it will arrive next week.

sons of bumpesses!!! I was hoping my Battlestar action figures would be coming soon, and I just checked Diamond's site...and they've been bumped back until October!!! I want them nooow! /whining

I just talked to my mom on the phone for 2+ hours. That's crazy. Neither of us our phone people, but I wanted to tell her about Drexel. But then I remembered she had finally finished HP7, so we had to talk about that, and she's almost done with s3 of BSG, so we had to talk a bit about that...good times.

I'm starting to get sick of this long hair. It's fine when I have time to blow dry it and make it look pretty...but I'm getting sick of finding hair EVERYWHERE! I got out of my car the other day and there was hair all over the seat! I just did laundry and there was a ton of hair in the dryer vent. Found a big clump stuck to a sock in the clean clothes. Just ew. Might be time to chop it all off.

I'm contemplating a Starbuck cut. The question is - do I go totally crazy and get the Miniseries cut? Or should I take a step back and do the slightly longer Season 1 haircut?

Time for me to deliberate over what kind of haircut I should get.

I want something new, fun, and summery. Something that requires little to no styling time or ability. My face is somewhat round, so I need a style that doesn't make it seem any rounder. I like a little bit of bangs but not too much (and definately not that straight across cut that they tried on Anne Hathaway). Currently my hair is season 4 Willow length, maybe a teensy bit shorter.

Here's what I'm pondering so far:

A shorter version of Sarah Chalke's haircut from Season 3 of Scrubs (yes we just watched this episode tonight? your point?). The only problem I forsee with this is how it will look when it grows out.

Or I could try the semi-flip again, this time armed with a picture of Reese Witherspoon from 'Sweet Home Alabama' (except I'd ask for some bangs...I need bangs, I have a lot of forhead.)

Pretty much - I need layers because my hair is pretty darn thin. If I just get it cut straight then it lies flat and looks very blech, especially since I have no styling skills. So link me to pics that sounds like they might be what I'm looking for. I'm hoping to get it cut this weekend or early next week if possible.
