I know I keep complaining about this book Marked but it is so PAINFULLY bad, I just have to share:
In the chapter I read today, she went to Equestrian class, and instead of saying the barn smelled like manure or shit or crap, the character said the barn smelled like, and I quote:
"poopie".

Yes, a book written for Young Adult readers has the word "poopie" in it. And not just once, but several times!

It's her internal monologue. No one says "poopie" in their internal monologue. Especially a 16 year old girl.

I cannot stand this book. I wish someone would just sum up the whole story for me so I wouldn't have to finish it. It's just sooooooo stupid. The narrator is such a snobby little bitch. She's just so much better than everyone else. And maybe she is because everyone else in the book is a cookie cutter stereotype that makes me want to scream.

AH!

On the other hand, I'm on the last disc of "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". I'm sort of proud of myself, because I figured out a bit of the mystery right from the start, though the rest of it I was like "wtf!". But it was good. I've got the next one on hold.

It did remind me of a minor issue with audiobooks - when bad things happen, you can't skim over them. And not only that, you have to roll up your windows in case you end up at a stop light and the author decides its time for a sex scene!

Big Bang Theory last night was hilarious. But it made me want chocolate. Also, clearly I've been hanging out with AD too long because seeing Wolowitz with eye liner and his hair done up made him seem a lot cuter.

Oh, and I won a free Xbox360 controller just for replying to a post on [livejournal.com profile] morefun_xbox360! They should post a little mini-interview with me later this week too. There goes another 30 seconds from my 15 minutes of fame!

Okay, I need to get to bed. Actually have to wake up early tomorrow...and after working two nights in a row right after a weekend, that is gonna be rougher than usual.

I feel so bad for you--I guess you have to read Marked for some unfortunate reason.
You *can* skim audiobooks, though: just hit the "forward" button and go to the next section. You might miss some useful paragraphs but you can go back if you really have to. (I learned this while listening to the Twilight saga on CD, and it saved my sanity)

Books for the Beast. I'm facilitating the group. I emailed one of the other group members today though and BEGGED for a summary. I've read some awful writing in my time, but this stuff is just - yuck!

It's funny because if you go on GoodReads, you can see who the target audience is. All the people that time like me dislike the book. AND ALL THE PEPEL THAT OMG ABOUT IT TYPE IN ALL CAPS LOLOL!!!! I LUV THESE BOOKS THEY ARE THE BEST OMG!

Yes really. Poopie. I could even tolerate "poop". But Poopie???

And if she makes one more crappy pop culture reference or insinuates that she's better than someone else because she's never had a drink/smoked/had sex/seen porn/whatever I will rip this book in two (well, not really, it's a library book...but you understand!)

I really do understand.

I threw Eragon across the room so it hit the wall.

And it was a library book.

And I was *in* the library at the time.

Oh, and I was the librarian.

>.> lol. What? No one was in there at the time!

lol. Except I would be like, "HERE IS A PICTURE OF ME, BECAUSE I DO NOT CARE AND THIS BOOK WAS CRAP."

XD

OH! OH! I threw several Faulkners and Ulysses too! It just feels so gooooooood.

okay, now it sounds like the coolest YouTube video ever. Next time we are together, we should go to used book stores and buy cheap copies of "classics" and then throw them around on camera. I bet the video will be very popular among librarians and students LOL!

Wolowitz was cuter with the eyeliner and different hair style. :P

Joe told me that he once used Pez to train a roommate not to do stuff he didn't like. Again, I am totally dating Sheldon.

Congrats on the win! Is it a pink XBox controller? ;)

HA! The mind of Sheldon, the looks of Sylar/Spock...quick, give me one more pop culture reference!

Sadly, my guess is it is just a plain white one. But whatever - that means we're prepared for 3-player Castle Crashers at a moments notice!!!!

BAHAHAHAHAHA!

I only know a few people who have read the House of Night books, but I'm so glad we can agree on this part because none of my other friends noticed the horrendous dialog for some reason. I mean, how can you not pick up on "poopie"??

Man, I really need to get serious about my Books for the Beast...so many new books I keep getting distracted by!

The writing is just sooooo bad. After reading "Catching Fire" and now I'm reading "Going Bovine" - both told in that first person voice, and they are so much better. House of Night reads like bad fan-fic (she is such a Mary Sue - oh, I am so perfect! My life is hard being perfect, omg). This book make me realize that, while I don't like Twilight as a story, Meyer can at least write decently. These two Cast women need to get an editor to say "uh, yeah, no - no poopie!"

Marked is the last one I need to finish. I'm reading different book in each room I am in - bedroom = going bovine, living room = marked, car = Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, lunch break room = Stitches. It's the only way I can get them all done!

and you'll notice the ones that do not (at least on GoodReads) ALL TYPE LIKE THIS OMG BEST BOOK EVAR I LIKE TO READ NOW! So clearly I am not the demographic for this book.

Poopie is only the beginning.

I'm going to have a hard time leading a discussion on this book later this month...I'll just have to stare at the floor so I don't roll my eyes all the way back in my head.
