Doctor Who - Series 6 - Episode 1 - The Impossible Astronaut

OMGWTFDOYOUMEANTHATIHAVETOWAITAWEEK??????????

*deep breaths*

Random thoughts/quotes/picspam and (River voice) spoilers. :)

So, Amy & Rory didn't stay on the TARDIS for long? I guess they probably wanted to have a honeymoon that didn't involve fighting lizard people or vampire-looking fish aliens or flying sharks. But I do like the Doctor's stationary.

"She's doing it again...packing!" I <3 River. And both of the outfits look relatively simple...maybe I could pull off a River outfit for Dragon*Con...just need that sweet jean jacket combo. And a holster. And a revolver.

"IT'S THE PONDS!"

"I wear a Stetson now, Stetsons are cool."

I love the little moment between River and The Doctor comparing their journals..."Jim the fish" LOL And saying that Matt Smith's giant head looks like the giant statues? BRILLIANT!

Okay, so WHO is the atstronaut? My first thought was that it is River, which is why she doesn't/can't shoot it as it walks back into the lake.

"I'm the king of okay! - oh that's titles rubbish, forget that."

RIVER!SLAP

I'm feeling a very big Back to the Future vibe off of this episode. Perhaps next week (or by the end of this season) Amy will write a letter telling The Doctor that on the night he goes back to 1985 in 2011, the astronaut shoots him during regeneration and even though The Doctor will say he's not going to read it, he will read it and be protected from the blast next time. BUT since the established age of The Doctor for when he dies is 200 years, perhaps not...I'm thinking this will be a secret they have to keep the entire season...

"I'm being extremely clever up here and there's no one to stand around looking impressed! What's the point of having you all?"

River's knowledge of the inner workings of the TARDIS has increased, and she seems more flirty than usual. We are going forward in the Doctor's timeline but backwards with her...the way she talks about him in this episode makes me think things should be reaching their peak very soon.

LOL I love The Doctor standing right behind them and taking notes. Foolish of him, but still amusing.

"RIVER - MAKER HER BLUE AGAIN!"

"You think you can just shoot me?" "THEY'RE AMERICANS!" *hands up* hahahhahahaha

I love all the little "I hate you" "No you don't" moments between The Doctor and River this episode. They are so gonna get it on this season...though she did make that crack in Time of Angels that he could kiss her when he's older. But that could mean anything!

"Do not compliment the intruder!"

Okay, so the alien creature zapped that woman into oblivion but didn't touch Amy. Can Amy remember the alien because of her special growing-up-with-a-crack-in-your-wall ? She seems to have forgotten already...is the picture still in her phone?

"Dr Song, you've got that face on again."
"What face?"
"The He's hot when he's clever face"
"This is my normal face"
"Yes, it is"
"Shut up, you."

"Trap. Let's see if anyone tries to kill us and work backwards"

"I'm quite a screamer - now there's a spoiler for you."

I liked River's speech to Rory, I hadn't really thought about how sad it would be for her. Now I want to go back and watch "Silence in the Library"...which was already sad to watch after Series 5, but now it will be even sadder.

Um, is it just me or does that control mechanism for the spaceship look like the same control mechanism as the ship in The Lodger??? So...does that mean the astronaut is just a beacon, like the one luring people upstairs in that episode? Are these the creatures that owned that ship?

AH they cannot kill Rory again! I forbid it! Teasing us with his death is just mean. (plus, his name is part of the opening credits now, they can't kill him! Can they?)

Preggers, huh? Now, usually that is a jump-the-shark moment...but I am curious to see how Moffat & Co. play this. Unless UNLESS the pregnancy is a reason for her to leave as a companion at the end of this season. It would be nice...not that I want Amy to go, but if she is going to leave, it won't be because (like the last few companions) it's because they are in love with The Doctor and he has to ditch them. This would actually be her needing to put someone before herself, which she isn't that good at yet. I mean, she loves Rory, but Amy still comes first. But if she has a baby, it will be a new adventure for her and something new for her to focus on. But I don't want her to go :(

Then again she could drop the baby off at daycare then go time traveling for however long, then come back and get the kid 5 minutes later (in the kids time). LOL! Probably wouldn't go over...

OMG WTF AMY NO TOUCHING GUNS!!!! The Doctor is NOT going to be happy about that. And she's not allowed to blame hormones.

Wow, quite the start to the season. I'm curious to see how much of this is just for the first episode and how much carries over into the rest of the season. And maybe River is the one who sets up the rendevous with the astronaut, Amy must freak out and slip the Doctor some kind of message so he is prepared for the attack.

Ugh, having to wait a week to watch the next episode...torture! But I don't feel it's quite fair to just this first hour without seeing the rest. So I'll just spazz and watch this episode again....

You made some good observations I didn't catch, like having seen the inside of that ship in "The Watcher." I think the Doctor had some foresight that he was going to die. He made a pretty emphatic point that they were not to interfere no matter what when he went down to talk with the astronaut coming out of the lake. I think Amy's pregnancy is more significant than it might seem at first. I mean, she's pretty insistent that the Doctor know RIGHT now despite the fact that it's not really the best time for that kind of revelation. I'm thinking it's not a normal pregnancy. At any rate, don't get too attached to Amy and Rory. The Doctor never seems to keep any one companion more than a couple seasons. You can always hope for a spinoff, though. :)

I was pretty bummed that I need to wait another week to get a conclusion to all this, BUT I think this one definitely deserves the two episode treatment.

Yeah, it's just last season I didn't start watching until halfway through so I had episodes to watch back-to-back, this waiting thing is horrible! What did The Doctor say? "Is this how time normally passes? Really slowly, in the right order?"

Amy only seemed to remember she was pregnant when she grabbed her side in pain. Had she really forgotten and then realized she had forgotten, so, like with the aliens, she had to tell the Doctor before the knowledge went away again? I wonder if she will remember when we come back next week? Hm....

Yes. We noticed that immediately.

Oh - Why do you think Amy had to tell the Doctor RIGHT NOW?

Yeah, clearly this is not just going to be a normal pregnancy...is it because she FORGOT? It was like she held her side and it made her remember but the rest of the time she didn't remember...

we caught that too, but maybe just because we marathon-ed right before this aired.

OMG I just finished the episode and HOLYCRAP. I am going to have nightmares about those aliens, probably. :\

I haven't seen Series 5 in a while, so I didn't notice that it was the same ship as the one in "The Lodger," but I kind of love that. It makes sense, too, since they used kids to lure people into the apartment. (And they were stuck on Earth, right?)

LOVED River's speech to Rory, as well as the flirtation between her and The Doctor. I think that'll create conflict with Amy... There were a lot of great one-liners in the episode. And OH Mark Sheppard. I thought he was awesome.

Not sure about the pregnancy, though. When she was feeling sick, I wondered if it was because she was preggers, but I was skeptical when she told the Doctor. I kind of think it was the aliens... maybe they messed up her memory somehow, wiping themselves from them. Or whatever it is they do.

I mainlined all of Series 5 after it was over last year. This waiting thing is horrible! I can't wait until next week! I NEED TO KNOW what the Astronaut is!
