2011 on TV

Lots of surprises this year when it came to new TV. A lot of these shows I didn't expect to like at all. And the ones I wanted to like...well, they ended up being okay. Isn't that the way?
Game of Thrones - Let me tell you, when I got the first episode and started to watch it, I figured it would be an okay show but probably not my thing. But WOW. Okay, GoT is like Battlestar Galactica - on the surface, from the ads, you would assume it's another fantasy show, but when you watch, you realize the fantasy element is backseat to the politics and relationships and amazing characters. This was the kind of show I dropped everything for to watch. I can't wait for the new season in 2012!
Grimm - I wanted to love this show, considering it has some Whedon-alums at the wheel. But, while I continue to tune in every week, I'm just not really connected to it. It's mostly monster-of-the-week and the characters are just not that interesting. But I have hope for it since Greenburg is the head writer (he worked on BtVS). It has promise though.
Happy Endings - THANK YOU
Raising Hope - So great to find this show again while I was playing with Hulu. While the tone seems to have changed a bit since Season 1, it still has a very cute charm to it. They are coping well with Hope getting older though I wonder what they will do once she can talk? Well, we will see. Another show that is made better by a great cast.
American Horror Story - OMG WTF THIS SHOW! I MEAN WHAT. THE. FUCK. Just finished the last episode of the year and wow. JUST WOW. PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME THEY HAVE A PLAN FOR THIS SHOW! If this goes the way of Lost or X Files I will be very angry. But each week is just more messed up than the next, but Tim Minear and James Wong are just hitting it out of the park every time, a train-wreck of epic proportions.
Once Upon a Time - Another show that I say "You better have a plan!" because it really is just Lost but with fairy tale characters. I am enjoying it each week, and I'm trusting Jane Espenson (BtVS/Angel/Firefly/Dollhouse) to steer us right but I don't think this show should go beyond two seasons. I'm watching because I find Ginnifer Goodwin to be just too pretty for words with her little pixie hair cut. And to solve the mystery...
New Girl - Um...yeah, I really like Zooey and this show has its moments, but it has yet to find it's footing. I don't think it should have the Golden Globe nomination just yet. But there is SO MUCH potential here. I will keep watching into 2012 to see if they can tighten up some issues and get the show to where it needs to be.
Community - okay, so it's not new to 2011, but Season 3 has been awesome. I really hope they get picked up for a 4th season. I laughed out loud so much this season
Walking Dead - Season 2 started out a bit rough, the Sophia storyline wore thin pretty quick but those of us who had read the comic knew what finding that farm meant so we were waiting patiently for what was to come. And the winter finale did exactly what needed to be done to make the show live up to it's name. Here's hoping when they return in 2012, the show moves a little less like a George Romero Zombie and more like a 28 Days Later zombie.
Doctor Who - Series 6 had some ups and downs. As much as I love River, there was too much River in Series 6. But they wrapped up that plot line so I suppose we won't see her again for a long while. Still, I didn't feel it was as solid as Series 5. Standout episodes were: The Doctor's Wife, The Girl Who Waited, God Complex
Sherlock - Benedict Cumberbatch. Oh yes. Martin Freeman, OH YES. BACK ON BBC THIS WEEK??? OH YES! Great reworking of this classic series, making it all seem so fresh and not just a cheesy updating. Cumberbatch & Freeman > Downey & Law. TRUTH!
IT Crowd - Thanks to Netflix Instant View, I was able to enjoy this British series. Takes a season to find it's footing but I LOVED Series 2 -4.

Date: 2011-12-31 09:32 am (UTC)hehehehehhehhe you're welcome~ I didn't think I was going to like Elisha Cuthbert either because I really haven't liked her in anything she's been in. (That one scene in Love Actually? OUCH. Lol that is my least favorite part of the whole movie.) I still need to catch up on the last few episodes from this year! D: I fell a bit behind.
Alkdjfal okay, I feel like I really need to watch American Horror Story.
I really like Once Upon A Time, but I have no idea how they could possibly make it last long, and I don't think they should, really. It would just get awful. I can't wait to see more though <3
LOL I think New Girl is fantastic. Everything about it. Especially Schmidt. I feel like I should hate him but I just can't! Did you see that fake online dating profile for him? XD omg he's so awful.
I thought S3 of Community started out a bit rocky but holy hell did it pick up after the first few. jafslkfjdalsjasfjk SIX SEASONS AND A MOVIE~ However, I didn't stick with The Walking Dead, lol. I feel like I'm content to just let my mom recap the show to me haha. All that Sophia stuff just killed it for me.
And yesss oh god IT Crowd. I still haven't finished but slafjalsfjdasl;fj. And it's so quotable. Love it~

Date: 2011-12-31 11:40 am (UTC)Grimm: I actually like the premise of the show but the characters aren't really compelling? Idk, I might drop it if I can't get anymore interested in Nick.
Happy Endings/Raising Hope: part of my favourite comedies now :D
AHS: I wish I dare to start on this show because EEEEEEEE I'm a scaredy cat.
OUAT: I can't wait to see what's going to happen but I agree that this show isn't the kind that you can drag on and on and on. (it's like HIMYM to me, I really hate how they are already in season 7 and STILL NO SIGN OF THE MOTHER)
New Girl: I just feel that the character of Jess feels like a parody too much? Idk, I really like Schmidt.
Community: #sixseasonsandamovie!
Doctor Who: I prefer series 5 to series 6 but I'm glad that the River storyline is wrapped up nicely, somehow, even though there are always SO MANY QUESTIONS!
