popcorn in my teeth
Jun. 25th, 2012 12:12 amWatched two movies this weekend -- Crazy Stupid Love and Brave.
Crazy Stupid Love was much better than I expected. It had some flaws, but it was a fun rom-com to watch. As usual, it ran a little two long (almost 2 hours) and if they had taken an editor to the script before shooting, they could have improved the film a lot. It really wanted to be a Love Actually kind of tale, but they lost track of too many of the other stories and forgot to actually build up the female characters. It had lots of good laughs though and we both enjoyed it enough.
Brave was awesome! SO PRETTY! Pixar never disappoints. It made me want to get frizzy red hair and talk with a Scottish accent all day long! Lots of humorous moments and, like any good Pixar flick, I started to tear up a few times. Considering this was Pixar's first heroine and that it took place in an ancient, magical Scotland, they did an amazing job of creating this new world and getting by without relying on pop culture references. I mean, there's a lot of humor in Toy Story and Wall*E etc. that come from poking fun at modern culture, but there was really only one sequence like this in Brave and it was over pretty quickly.
Debating whether or not I want to get the soundtrack. OOH it's up on Spotify *listens* I love Scottish music :)

Date: 2012-06-25 12:15 pm (UTC)I'm glad that you found it to be as good as you had anticipated. I'm thinking I may go see it with my BFF and goddaughters sometime soon. I hope so.
I saw Crazy Stupid Love a good while back, and I wasn't expecting it to be worth anything, so I was quite shocked and impressed. I don't believe I had ever really seen anything with Steve Carell before, and I thought he did an amazing job. I didn't think about the Love, Actually comparison...to me, nothing approaches that movie...it is my favorite romantic comedy ever (and is also my favorite Christmas movie).
