Frankenweenie was cute and very Tim Burton-y and probably the best thing he has done in awhile. It was a horror movie for kids, with SO MANY inside jokes for the adults watching that it was hard not to enjoy. If I had a family, this would become required Halloween viewing until the kids were old enough for Poltergeist.
(OH and random pop culture reference in that movie that is driving me crazy because I can't place it - the marquee of the theater in the town said BAMBI on it - what is this a reference to??? It's driving me batty!!!!!)
War Horse, on the other hand, was long. I mean, I love Spielberg and this movie had his name written all over it but...it just wasn't tight enough. And I think WWI is just such a mess, it's hard to really know what to feel when you watch a movie set around that. And...I dunno, i really wanted to like it and instead I was just waiting for it to be over. I'm curious about the book now, if only because it was written for kid's (I thought). There were some amazing scenes, some beautiful scenes, but the story just was sorta meh and I never felt pulled in. There are so many movies with the character that randomly touches people's lives for the better but...well, Wall-E did it better! I should have been crying at the end but...I wasn't. I think we lost touch with Albert's character for too long and it caused a disconnect so the ending didn't have the weight that it should have had. So it wasn't a bad movie, but it wasn't a stand-out for me at all.
It's okay though, they can't all be E.T. :-)
