Been geeking out this week watching and reading bits of coverage from CES. I don't know why it's so fun to keep up with that stuff, but my geek heart eats it up.

Did everyone hear about Amazon's new "Autorip" deal? If you buy a CD that has the "Autorip" symbol, they will transfer the mp3 album to you cloud automatically after you buy it. and BONUS - any eligible CD you have purchased since 1998 has just been put in your cloud...right now. Go look.

...

Weird mix, right? Lots of CDs in there that I either bought as gifts or have already sold used because I don't listen to them anymore LOL. But there are also a few on there that I do still listen to and now that they are Amazon mp3s, they don't count against my cloud space!

Apparently this is Amazon's first real strike at iTunes and it's working for me. iTunes mp3 album prices are a bit pricey. I've been buying mp3 albums mostly from Amazon anyway but I tend to get physical CDs for bands that I really like and I am collecting their stuff. This will definitely make me think twice about just running to Target to get the CD for $10 if I can get it for $10 on Amazon and listen right away. I love the Cloud Player but was scared to upload stuff for fear of running out of space, but if it's an item you purchased from Amazon, it doesn't count towards your space. SO huzzah! Now if I am desperate for music while on the go, I can get a fix on Amazon.

Between this and Spotify, iTunes is just a music manager for my PC and not a very good one at that. The latest update annoys me no end because I can't find things easily and the shuffle mode, which is all I ever really listen to, is a pain in the butt to manage!

What random albums did you find on your cloud? I've got John Mayer, Leigh Nash, Flight of the Conchords, Dixei Chicks, Carly Simon...it's a hilarious mix of randomness. :)

the thing about iTunes for me is that prices are much much cheaper (As compared to US iTunes store) so I love it? and it makes me sad that I can't buy non-physical music from Amazon.

I have like this weird Nike+ mix on my iTunes cloud (lol), I think I downloaded it when I was in this running mood.

All the rules for all the different countries just drives me crazy...I wonder when companies will finally get to a point where they think of this stuff in advance!

For us, iTunes albums tend to run $10-$13, but Amazon is constantly having sales for $5 on all kinds of new albums.

I don't have a US credit card so I can't buy Amazon mp3s, because or else, HEY I WILL STOP PIRATING. I have to get my US iTunes gift cards from this website that marks up so badly but I'm desperate. Ughhhh region restriction WHY

I used to be so impressed by iTunes and then I realized how subpar it was/is. I like my music and having it all in one place, but i wish that the software was better.

I need to give Spotify a try. Or Pandora. Or any of those awesome sites. Haha.

SPOTIFY IS AWESOME! I signed up for it when it was being beta'd so I didn't have to link it to my Facebook account -- that is my only pet peeve right now is that you have to use your FB account to sign up. BUT IT'S SUCH A GREAT SERVICE! I listen to it constantly, getting mixes from friends and such. I am going to test out the "premium" service when we drive up to Boston in March. But the free service is just fantastic.

I got your card/cd today! Thanks :) I buy off of itunes as there's only one place here that sells cd's and I have to travel by bus to get there.

YAY glad it arrived in one piece!

I bought something off of iTunes back in the day, when they had all the "authorize this machine" stuff and it was SUCH A PAIN I never bought anything again. I know they did away with a lot of that DRM stuff, mostly because Amazon's mp3s are DRM free and everyone went over there.

No one stocks the music I like anyway so I tend to buy my CDs from Amazon...

I'll have to check out Spotify. There's some music I can't find on Freegal (which is my main current source--nothing beats free, and they keep getting new stuff), and that I couldn't find on iTunes either because I like obscure contemporary folk musicians.

For music I like, I'm about buying the physical CDs too--often right from the musicians.

SPOTIFY IS AWESOME (see reply above). Seriously, though, I just love it to much and I only use the free version. It's just a fun way to find music. I'm very curious about Dr Dre + Trent Reznor's new service "Beats" coming later this year - it's going to use some sort of program to measure the beats per minute in songs you like and recommend new music based on what you enjoy listening to beyond just hard-to-define genre labels...
