Been geeking out this week watching and reading bits of coverage from CES. I don't know why it's so fun to keep up with that stuff, but my geek heart eats it up.

Did everyone hear about Amazon's new "Autorip" deal? If you buy a CD that has the "Autorip" symbol, they will transfer the mp3 album to you cloud automatically after you buy it. and BONUS - any eligible CD you have purchased since 1998 has just been put in your cloud...right now. Go look.

...

Weird mix, right? Lots of CDs in there that I either bought as gifts or have already sold used because I don't listen to them anymore LOL. But there are also a few on there that I do still listen to and now that they are Amazon mp3s, they don't count against my cloud space!

Apparently this is Amazon's first real strike at iTunes and it's working for me. iTunes mp3 album prices are a bit pricey. I've been buying mp3 albums mostly from Amazon anyway but I tend to get physical CDs for bands that I really like and I am collecting their stuff. This will definitely make me think twice about just running to Target to get the CD for $10 if I can get it for $10 on Amazon and listen right away. I love the Cloud Player but was scared to upload stuff for fear of running out of space, but if it's an item you purchased from Amazon, it doesn't count towards your space. SO huzzah! Now if I am desperate for music while on the go, I can get a fix on Amazon.

Between this and Spotify, iTunes is just a music manager for my PC and not a very good one at that. The latest update annoys me no end because I can't find things easily and the shuffle mode, which is all I ever really listen to, is a pain in the butt to manage!

What random albums did you find on your cloud? I've got John Mayer, Leigh Nash, Flight of the Conchords, Dixei Chicks, Carly Simon...it's a hilarious mix of randomness. :)

YAY glad it arrived in one piece!

I bought something off of iTunes back in the day, when they had all the "authorize this machine" stuff and it was SUCH A PAIN I never bought anything again. I know they did away with a lot of that DRM stuff, mostly because Amazon's mp3s are DRM free and everyone went over there.

No one stocks the music I like anyway so I tend to buy my CDs from Amazon...
