I spent an entire summer playing either Tetris and Dr Mario while listening to books on cassette.

I listened to Edgar Allan Poe's short stories, Stephen King's Nightmares and Dreamscapes, Jurassic Park (abridged...several times because I owned it), Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul (which I can still quote to this day).

You see, when you play Tetris in total silence, you concentrate too much, second guess yourself and end up making stupid mistakes. If you're listening to music, you end up singing along and getting distracted. But stories kept me just distracted enough but not so much I would make mistakes. I actually made it to the last level of Tetris. I don't think I beat it, but I remember the Kremlin blasting into space...

I love Tetris. Did you ever play Columns on Sega?

Oddly enough, I did not play Columns on Sega...but a few weeks ago, [livejournal.com profile] maybedeadcat brought over his Sega Classics Xbox game and I played it them LOL. That and Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. Seriously, I could play those games all day long. :)

LOL! I wanted one of those console things that were out where you got like 40 Sega games with it. I never played the Dr. Robotnik one! I downloaded Columns onto my Wii (yay Wii points card!) and I am addicted again. I have discovered it is really trippy to play it when you half awake lol.

HAHA I will have to try that next time I'm trying to stay awake...break out the Columns!

PAX always has a "classic console" room where you can request games and go play for awhile. Last year someone was doing a Dr. Robotnik challenge on the big screen, I remember everyone cheering. Ah, gaming conventions. :)
