I sleep with a fan on.
As a kid, my dad had a big fan he would put in the hallway and turn on at
night. I think it was because he spent so much time on ships (Navy) and
was used to hearing the engine hum so the fan sort of took the place of
that.
Then when I moved in with the ex, he had the same white noise addiction so
I had a fan then too. And after he left, I still needed the fan!
But on Sunday, the fan DIED! We tried to clean it, we took it apart and
removed as much of the cat hair and girl hair and gunk wrapped around the
motor but nothing. It hums but doesn't spin. So I tossed and turned on
Sunday night, unable to sleep because of random cat noises, people upstairs
etc. I guess I'm a light sleeper.
I was freaking out about having to buy a fan after work yesterday when a
friend pointed out I could download a white noise app to my iPhone. DUH!
So I downloaded a couple different apps to try last night. There are so
many "noise" choices it was ridiculous! There are waves, rain, storms,
wind chimes, lightning, humming -- the list goes on and on!
I found one that had both wind and a fan. I thought "well, wind might be
nice, it will have that sort of rocking sound that waves do but now as
loud, plus I'm used to hearing wind! Yes I will try that.". So I put on
the wind noise, and it slowly helped me drift into the sleep zone...not all
the way asleep, but somewhere between sleep and awake...and as I listened
to the sound of the wind blowing and moving my brain thought it would be
hilarious to start to interpret some of the sounds as CREEPY WHISPERING!
Suddenly, I went from almost asleep to having my heart pounding in my
chest, imagining a creepy Japanese girl with her black hair in her face
looming over me. I wanted to turn it off but I had freaked myself out so
much I couldn't bring myself to open my eyes. After a brief pep talk in my
mind, I convinced myself to grow up, open my eyes, and turn off the damn
sound.
Which I did, and the killer ghost was not there so I switched it to the fan
noise and promptly fell asleep.
I am a wuss.

>.> I think I may need to stop watching horror movies before bed. Hehe

Cabin in the Woods is probably as horror as I can go.

Date: 2013-01-29 09:13 pm (UTC)Guh, I love Cabin in the Woods. Actually I love horror A LOT but I've found the older I get the less I can handle it. I don't know if it's me or the fact everyone's trying to make them so realistic nowadays.

After I went with my friend to go see Scream I dropped her off at her house, FLEW back to my house and put on my brother's Grim Reaper costume then went back to her house and rang the doorbell. The stomach punch was TOTALLLLLLLY worth it. Hehehe

Date: 2013-01-30 01:24 am (UTC)Still, I downloaded a few of the "sleepmaker" apps cause sometimes I like rain sounds at night. It makes things more cozy, lol.
AND OMG I hate those kind of nightmare things. I totally get how you feel. It's like, I'm a fucking adult! WTH! There was this weird light casting a shadow in the corner of my ceiling once and I had no idea where it was coming from and it kind of looked like a figure. I had been watching X-Files so OF COURSE my first thought was "ALIENS!111 D:" SIGH.

Date: 2013-01-31 03:28 am (UTC)It could be aliens! And dammit X Files offers no real advice on how to AVOID abduction!!!!
