Okay, so I know the entire point of this show is Jess/Nick. I know that is where it has been headed since day 1. I have accepted that, even though I was never really thrilled with the idea, I know that, in the end, comedies that involve a man and a women tend to end up being about sexual tension and relationships etc..
BUT BUT BUT -- that does not excuse the LAZY ASS writing from this week's episode.
First, the Nick/Jess kiss was stupid. I saw it coming a mile away and was pissed when it happened but I had hoped that they would drop it, or let it hang for a few weeks.
LOL NOPE!
Nick is a nice guy, he is. But he's immature, not together, and pretty damn sad, as we have been told OVER AND OVER this season. Yes, he has a giant crush on Jess but he is not worthy of her yet.
Sam is a really nice guy and I think he has been good for Jess, what little we have seen of them since they became a real couple. But right from the start, we knew that even though they were great together, they were doomed because Nick/Jess is the point of the show. But up until THIS WEEK, Sam was super nice and super cool.
Then SUDDENLY, she doesn't like his fist-bumping. Suddenly, he wakes up and checks his emails. SUDDENLY he has anger issues and punches Nick in the throat.
WTF.
And Nick's reaction to this at the end of the episode? So out of character! He was being a total douche! MOCKING Jess???? WHAT? After she was so supportive after Olivia Munn dumped him? Just...UGH!
Also, Sam is not the kind of guy to just say "we're done" and storm off and not come back. The Sam from previous episodes would have come over to talk later, even just to make a more formal goodbye. I mean, the episode BEFORE he was having fun a the party, chanting "kiss kiss kiss" with the rest of them.
How the writers could have saved the episode -- when assigned to table 34 with Cece (who, even though she does not have an advanced degree, is still successful in her own way), Nick could have had an epiphany about what a giant loser he is AND at the same time seen how much he desired Jess and decided to CHANGE! YES CHANGE! DAMMIT I HATE SEEING WOMEN ON TV SETTLE FOR LESS!
But, you're saying, what about Cece and Schimdt? Their storylines are equally ridiculous. Yes, but their are pretty stupid, so they deserve each other and their actions were totally in character (though the thing with Cece being almost "out of eggs" also makes me RAGE! If she wants a baby, she does not need to get married. Being married does not guarantee a baby, she could go get preggers without a man of any kind...the writers make me so GRRRR!!!!!!!!!!)
New Girl -- consider yourself on notice. Fix your shit or I am out. I love all the actors but get your story straight.
