New Girl, I am disappoint

Okay, so I know the entire point of this show is Jess/Nick. I know that is where it has been headed since day 1. I have accepted that, even though I was never really thrilled with the idea, I know that, in the end, comedies that involve a man and a women tend to end up being about sexual tension and relationships etc..

BUT BUT BUT -- that does not excuse the LAZY ASS writing from this week's episode.

First, the Nick/Jess kiss was stupid. I saw it coming a mile away and was pissed when it happened but I had hoped that they would drop it, or let it hang for a few weeks.

LOL NOPE!

Nick is a nice guy, he is. But he's immature, not together, and pretty damn sad, as we have been told OVER AND OVER this season. Yes, he has a giant crush on Jess but he is not worthy of her yet.

Sam is a really nice guy and I think he has been good for Jess, what little we have seen of them since they became a real couple. But right from the start, we knew that even though they were great together, they were doomed because Nick/Jess is the point of the show. But up until THIS WEEK, Sam was super nice and super cool.

Then SUDDENLY, she doesn't like his fist-bumping. Suddenly, he wakes up and checks his emails. SUDDENLY he has anger issues and punches Nick in the throat.

WTF.

And Nick's reaction to this at the end of the episode? So out of character! He was being a total douche! MOCKING Jess???? WHAT? After she was so supportive after Olivia Munn dumped him? Just...UGH!

Also, Sam is not the kind of guy to just say "we're done" and storm off and not come back. The Sam from previous episodes would have come over to talk later, even just to make a more formal goodbye. I mean, the episode BEFORE he was having fun a the party, chanting "kiss kiss kiss" with the rest of them.

How the writers could have saved the episode -- when assigned to table 34 with Cece (who, even though she does not have an advanced degree, is still successful in her own way), Nick could have had an epiphany about what a giant loser he is AND at the same time seen how much he desired Jess and decided to CHANGE! YES CHANGE! DAMMIT I HATE SEEING WOMEN ON TV SETTLE FOR LESS!

But, you're saying, what about Cece and Schimdt? Their storylines are equally ridiculous. Yes, but their are pretty stupid, so they deserve each other and their actions were totally in character (though the thing with Cece being almost "out of eggs" also makes me RAGE! If she wants a baby, she does not need to get married. Being married does not guarantee a baby, she could go get preggers without a man of any kind...the writers make me so GRRRR!!!!!!!!!!)

New Girl -- consider yourself on notice. Fix your shit or I am out. I love all the actors but get your story straight.

I agree 100% about Sam. I want Jess and Nick together, but I want them in the Rachel/Ross way -- where it takes multiple seasons for them to fumble together. But Sam? Seriously -- they completely changed his character in one scene. I mean, especially after Nick's stripper girlfriend (I can't remember her name on the show) and her advances? And suddenly Nick does something similar and it's over?

Meh.

The episode felt cheap. They gave us a kiss (which let's not forget Sam was 100% for during the 'game') and now they are quickly tying this up in a bow. -.-

YES! It felt cheap and contrived. Rather than creating an arc that shows us how, while Sam is a nice guy, he might not be a good match for Jess (which would give time for Nick to get his shit together and prove to the audience that he is worthy of Jess) they created this bullshit episode of pettiness. Lazy ass writing.

I saw the previews for this and was kinda, "Meh," about it. I've been feeling the shark-jumping for awhile though. Got a bit burned out on "broken penis" jokes last season. As far as new shows on Fox, I'm feeling The Mindy Project much more lately.

I'm not a die-hard fan of this series, but I was enjoying it well enough. The "broken penis" gag did go on a bit too long, but it was going really well this season, I thought, and now this episode. Ugh.

I haven't watched an episode of 'Mindy Project'...the commercials didn't make it look very appealing. Are they just really bad ads?

The ads seem to focus on the slapstick/moronic bits. Most ads do, when you're talking about comedy--appealing to the lowest common denominator and all that.

And I still like New Girl well enough--it works just fine when I'm doing situps or whatever. (Yes, I exercise when I'm watching sitcoms sometimes.) I just liked the earlier episodes much better.

Nothing wrong with that, I used to exercise when rewatching Buffy :) Now I just play Dance Central LOL

I don't think the whole point of the show is Nick/Jess. Given the ratings for the kiss episode, I would definitely expect to see a lot more Nick/Jess shenanigans though. I'm not full on-board the Nick/Jess ship, but I kind of like the slow way they've been building them up. The kiss was hot and I think it makes sense that they dealt with it, the next episode since it was a pretty big deal. I don't think that Nick and Jess will officially get together this season. I see them stringing this out for longer. So Nick still has time to get his shit together.

I definitely really came to like Sam and Jess/Sam. I think it's really stupid of them to break off the relationship the very next episode, and for what amounts to me to be a pretty lame reason.

I should have said that is the goal of the show, to get them together...which means it should never happen IMHO. Once they are together, it's over. And I think I'm mostly upset because of the abuse of Sam's character...I feel like we were finally getting to know him and the writers, what? didn't want to renew his contract?

I've never really been a big believer in that once a couple gets together, there's nothing else to write. I honestly don't think they plan on getting Nick and Jess together this season. But once they do get together, I think there's still things to write for them, and for the show, especially since it's an ensemble show.

While I do hate the way they had Sam dump Jess and getting rid of him so quickly, I don't think Sam was ever going to be there for long. The actor who plays him is actually a pretty in demand TV actor, and I don't think they could have kept him even if they wanted to.

Oh, yes I agree, shows can make it after the couples get together BUT it take some talented writers who have thought it through to pull it off. Richard and Kahlan, in Legend of the Seeker, for example, seemed to work post-relationship (though they could never actually have sex which means the tension was still there).

I recognized the guy who played Sam and knew he couldn't stay on the cast forever but...I wanted to give him a better send off either way. Storming off seemed out of character for the sensitive doctor who was finally willing to take a chance with Jess.

I really hope that maybe they plan on bringing Sam back for at least a one-off to bring proper closure to the relationship.

Awwwwww :C

I should start by mentioning that I've missed a few episodes in between... I had no idea Jess and Sam were a thing because I think the last thing I saw with them was maybe... around halloween or something? When she told him she wanted to get serious and he said no, and there was that fun house that Nick was scared of?

So, that being said... I loved the kiss. Ohmygod. afjdsklafjl. And even so, it doesn't feel like the Jess/Nick show to me... IT'S TOTALLY THE SCHMIDT/CECE SHOW lol. But omg. I think I watch it for them. Actually, it is just the Schmidt show, because Max Greenfield is the actual best.

I can't see Jess and Nick ever getting together for real, at least not any time soon, because I do think Nick has a lot of growing to do (but she did say back in season 1 the perfect man would be Walter Matthau in Grumpy Old Men and she could be girl Jack Lemmon lol)

And even having missed those episodes, yeah, Sam's reaction at the end was pretty ooc, cause he was totally on board with the kiss during the party. I think that was the only part of the episode I really didn't like.

Yeah, I could see Sam being mad and storming off...but he seems like the kind of guy that would come back, even just to have a mature end-of-relationship talk. And Nick being all excited just seemed so mean! :(

SCHMIDT SHOW! :D
