It's June which means E3 which means lots of excitement about games !!! Tim said if they come out with an xbox one forza bundle he will buy it lol. I need the One now because of forza and dance central - exclusives! Plus dragon age !!! And whatever else Bioware has been teasing all week. And, of course, Assassin's Creed V which looks epic and so very pretty.

Apparently Nintendo announced super smash bros for Wii U which is a game I've never really got. They are trying the Skylanders model of selling toys that will give you in-game characters which I am unmoved by. They also announced a new Zelda game for 2015 but it has gone back to a very cartoony look. I like Zelda but right now that is the only wii U game I am interested in.

I'm typing this on my iPad while we play Age of Wonders III on the PC. Every Tuesday night we game online with our friend who lives in California. He bought Tim and I this game for Tim's birthday. It's sorta like Civ and the total war games had a baby and that baby was really onto LotR. Took me a game to really get it (but games last us a few sessions since we only play for 3 hours at most.) but I have the hang of it now. It's fun but the battles can happen in real time if you do Manual mode so that's a lot of downtime for the rest of the players as they wait for your turn to unfold. Which is how I've managed to type this entry up :)

I'll post some trailers for the games I'm most excited about tomorrow since it's usually bedtime when we finally log off for the night.

The Kinect is up on Amazon for pre-order...$150, as expected. But I'd rather pay $150 for an all new bit of tech than $150 for Playstations 2 remotes and eye-toy (which is what it will cost Sony, just SAY IT!)

Clearly, I own a PS3, but I'm not a Sony fangirl

ACK I better go to work!!!

Gears of War and Gears of War 2 are awesome games. Not only do they rock in their actual story and gameplay, but it is one of the FEW Xbox games that let's me play co-op with the person sitting NEXT TO ME!!!!!!!!!

And just to top it off, if I heard Cliffy B correctly - it appears we get to play as a hot chick Gear this time and ONE of them might even be named *SAM*! *fangirl squee*

GLORIOUS! WANT WANT WANT!

So, I woke up this morning to an email from Microsoft annoucing there is a new Xbox 360. It's black, quiet, has wifi and 250GB of space. Yum. I'm tempted to upgrade but can't really justify it at the moment. But all that space would be glorious for downloadable Rock Band music...and who knows what else!

Then they announced that Project Natal was now the Xbox Kinect. If it does everything they are showing in the video, I think it could kill the Wii. First of all, it eliminates peripherals. You buy the Kinect and that is your peripheral for ALL of those games. No controller, no balance board - the Kinect KNOWS ALL (erm, so no making out on the couch, okay? because it's watching you and it might...ya know...blackmail you later) I'm fascinated by the Dance game they show. Honestly, the biggest thing when it comes to playing those games now is that I'd have to drag out the DDR mat, find some space for it, hook it up...oh man this would make things so much easier for games like that.

Nintendo sort of flailed around during their presenatation - teasing us with a Legend of Zelda preview, but then telling us the game won't be out until 2011 (which to me translates to "Holiday 2011"). The rest of the games for Wii were the same old, same old. Mario plays every sport ever invented while you wait for Zelda to come out. Their biggest deal was the Nintendo 3DS which is somehow 3D without the player having to wear glasses. I'm not sure how that works...it kind of freaks me out. And as much as I use our current DS, my guess is we won't need this unless a special Zelda or Mario 3D game comes out. Then maybe. MAYBE!

Sony was all about the Playstation Move, which just looks like a Wii rip-off to me. And my guess is that it will suffer from all the same issues that the Wii is currently dealing with - it's hard to design a good game with motion controls. Plus, some games are going to require BOTH the Move and EyeToy. Sony is trying to make a big deal that their controller will be out before the Kinect and be cheaper (even though Microsoft has not announced a price on the Kinect) but the obvious Wii Copy-Catting bothers me and really does not make me interested in this peripheral.

OMG WHY IS STALE POPCORN SO DELICIOUS?

I just ate like 3 cups of popcorn that was left over from when we went to the movies a week ago...and it was yummy. That or I was hungry. Maybe I needed salt and butter in my system. I dunno.

E3 is next week so brace yourself for lots of random posts about Xbox, Rock Band 3 (oooh look it's already starting!), Starcraft, etc. over the next few days.

40 DAYS UNTIL SDCC!!!!!!!!!! True Blood panel has been confirmed and I SO want to go to that. There are rumors about Scott Piligrim being shown and maybe even a sneak peek of Tron:Legacy, which I might stand in an insane line for. Still waiting to hear about exclusives that might be there. No word on Joss being around. I will be sad if he is not there, but it won't ruin the whole weekend or anything (actually, I'll probably get to see and do more if he's not there - if he is I will spend the entire weekend standing in line to meet him, I swear!)

Apollo is yelling at my because I haven't fed him. We ran out of crunchy food last night so he didn' thave anything to snack on all day. I told him to wait for AD to get home.

The Shakespeare Theatre announced they are doing Twelfth Night for the Free-For-All this August/Sept. It was a really good production so if you want to see some great Shakespeare for FREE, that would be the time.

[livejournal.com profile] faeriesfolly will be happy to know that in my caffeinated state last night I managed to do 7 of my 20 icons for [livejournal.com profile] whedon20in20 - plus I have all the caps saved that I want to use. I might actually complete my set by the deadline!

Not playing Sims 3 today - no "S" in Friday....*keeps repeating this rule in her mind*....

Civilization 5 has a release date!!!! September! meep! I gotta get a new computer by then.

Alright, [livejournal.com profile] impalalove just tweeted that she beat Super Mario Galaxy 2's final boss...so now I feel the urge to play. brb.

OMG so much to talk about re: E3.

For those non-gamers on my flist, E3 is the Electronics Entertainment Expo where the companies trot out all their new stuff for the fiscal year. Microsoft did their program today and, even though it is not an exclusive to their console, they premiered the Beatles Rock Band gameplay trailer. OMG OMG. I'm am so excited about this game now. The 3 part harmonies are gonna be brutal, but as I suck at drums, and these should provide a huge challenge. No word on the official track list yet, but they did say 45 songs, plus downloadable content (gotta love microtransactions) and the Xbox360 is getting "All You Need Is Love" as an exclusive.

The lovely Felicia Day was present to announce the new Facebook and Twitter integration into the Xbox Live set-up. It looks damn cool. Gold users also get last.fm to work with their Xbox, which, as the annoucer said, is most likely hooked up to the best speakers in your house (this is true).

Lucasarts let slip that not one but TWO Monkey Island games are in the works! Hopefully more details will come out as the week goes on but OMG GUYBRUSH YAY!!!!!!! Some of my most favorite games.

AD is very excited about Modern Warfare 2 - I have to admit it did look very very pretty.

Not really sure about "Project Natal" (which they pronouced "Nah-Tahl" and I was calling "Nae-tell" all day). AD pointed out that it's just the next generation Eye-Toy. Still, the facial and voice recognition thing sorta weirds me out. A little too "from the future" haha Plus how much software will that require? Am I gonna need a new hard drive??

EA & Ubisoft also did a conference today but its too late for me to watch it (it's on the DVR for later, yes I DVR'd E3, I'm a nerd) Nintendo takes the stage tomorrow, and we're hoping for a Mario and Zelda announcement *crosses fingers*

Unfortunately, I'll be at one of the local high schools all day doing book talks, totally cut off from the world of the Internetz!!! Noooo! I'm pondering taking my laptop with me and searching for wi-fi during my lunch break...but that might be too pathetic. (like that ever stopped me).

I gotta get to bed, waking up at 6am (YUCK!). TTFN

So, we just watched the entire re-run of the Microsoft E3 Press Conference.  It was painful since we just sent our Xbox into be fixed.  Made me want to play so many of our games.

Random Thoughts: )

Be prepared, tomorrow is the Nintendo Press Conference. They should have footage of the new Clone Wars game. Wii-mote + Star Wars = AWESOME. I feel some "squees" coming on....

orangerful: (jerk! // whitemartyr)
Okay, first of all, I think Lucasarts is focusing on the wrong thing with their new games. He kept telling us about "new technology" that would make these games so great - the new technology is:

some sort of program that gives each character AI so that when Indy punches 3 guys in the gut, all 3 of them will react in different ways. Interesting, but really, means nothing if the game is shite.

He also talked about some new code that will be in the star wars game - does it let you use lightsabers? Does it let you pilot an xwing? - No. It lets you break boxes in a million different ways! Watch as the wood shatters differently every time! OH YES!

Then, when the G4 interviewer asked if there was any hope of us seeing the adventure games that Lucasarts made so well back in the day return to our new systems, and he said no. He said they only want to do new things (or star wars things) and that those games are of the past (the "golden age"...I mean if you're gonna relive an age, relive that one ya moron!).

He actually likened a Monkey Island & Day of the Tentacle re-releases to the Bewitched & Dukes of Hazzard movie remakes! That bastard!

If I ever meet him, I'm going to kick him.

hard.

The intro to yesterday's coverage of E3 - I am so highly amused by this. There's a stupid little comercial in the front for no apparent reason, but just wait 20 seconds and you'll be at the actual clip. Gamers will laugh out loud.

We've watched 2+ hours of E3 coverage on G4 today...I agree with [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy, Olivia is pretty bad. I don't think she has any muscles in her arms. When she turns, they just sorta stay by her side and jiggle.

The Wii "nunchucks" are looking cooler and cooler. They showed Adam playing 'Red Bullet', and I'm not much for First Person Shooters but the Wii remote and the one swordfighting bit, I really want to play this game. Perhaps we'll start renting games again...Super Mario Galaxy looks cool too. And a NEW SONIC!

oh, and SPORE. Yes, this game has [livejournal.com profile] verdatum, [livejournal.com profile] simontrueheart, and my name written all over it. You start out as a single celled organism and work your way up to galactic domination. There was a video of Kevin Pereira playing with the creature editor and it looked like fun. (scroll down for a link to the video).

Nothing so far for DS Lite, GBA, or PSP in the reports. Perhaps handhelds will be covered later in the week.
orangerful: (Oooooh! // orangerful)
I always read a book with my lunch, but today I only had a comic book and I was already half way thru it yesterday so it didn't get me thru my entire 45 minutes of lunch. So, now I'm here!

[livejournal.com profile] jimithingy posted a great rundown of his thoughts on the press conference portion of E3 yesterday. Today they should be rolling out the big guns. We should find out what the new race on 'World of Warcraft' is and hopefully get a few surprises about other new games on the way.

I realized that there are no games on the PS3 that I've heard about and need to have. Right now, it's just a system, and I mostly want to get it just to spite Microsoft. But I'm thinking maybe we'll just get the Wii to start with this year. Let 360 and PS3 duke it out for a year together and see who arrives victorious (and who's power cord sets fire to the rug).
