I'm listening to 'The Last Wish', the first book in The Witcher series.

In the books and games (at least, in the English translations), the bard is named Dandelion.

For some weird reason, in the audiobook, the narrator has chosen to pronounce this as "Dan-DILL-ee-On" and it is just very weird. Like, I want to see his pages to see if it was spelled differently. Because in the game, he is definitely called "Dandelion", pronounced just like the flower.

(and all the Netflix only fans are like "Wait, you mean Jaskier?")

NEW FULL LENGTH TRAILER!

So much fan service. A nice butt shot of Cavill AND the bathtub scene? LOLOL.

Seriously though, I am so excited for this series. Between this and the new season of Expanse, December is going to be good.

I decided to do the final mission in Witcher 3 today, to find out how the whole main quest played out.

And now I'm thoroughly depressed because my got the DARKEST TIMELINE ending. Pretty much everything SUCKED except for Skellege, where Geralt managed to get the daughter of Crach crowned as queen and she was a good ruler. Everwhere else, BAD.

And Ciri...**CRIES** OMG WHAT HAVE I DONE?! WHAT DID I DO WRONG?!?

Apparently there are little interactions during the game that change how it all plays out at the end. I found this out when I saw what I refer to as the Bad Dad article on Kotaku. And, like this player, I tried to have Geralt treat Ciri like a daughter, with encouragement and love but maybe I turned out to be a Smother (or the Witcher Dude equivalent) and that made Ciri less capable of facing the peril.

I have over 100 hours in the game and I'm kinda thinking about starting over just to try again and maybe NOT get the worst ending ever.

To make it worse, I know that Tim and my brother both got the "happy" ending for Ciri and Geralt. I know I could Google and find the videos of the final cut scenes but that's not the same. I need to earn it. I want to unlock it myself.

I feel like I let Geralt down.

So how was your weekend?

I'm currently many many hours into Witcher 3. I did play Witcher and the sequel before this so I am familiar with the characters that appeared in the game, though I have not read the novels (we own them because Tim played the games before me so they were easy gifts that holiday season...but this also means they don't have due dates and as a librarian I have problems reading things that don't have due dates to threaten me).

ANYWAY I ship Triss and Geralt because of this. Yennefer annoyed me immediately when she appeared in Witcher 3 and I *know* they were the power couple before this but I just don't feel it, so I had Geralt pursue Triss pretty much from the start and did her quest line immediately and they totally got it on in the lighthouse.

But this weekend I did a bunch of quests with Yennefer and ended up doing her special side quest. And when we got to the moment where I could have made Geralt say he didn't feel anything for her anymore, I couldn't do it and I had him say he loved her.

BUT follow my thinking -- he does love her. I don't doubt that. We all love many people in our lives and our lifetimes and even if we part ways, we have feelings for them. So I don't feel like I was stringing Yennefer along (though I kinda felt bad when they kissed but I did have Geralt decline her sexual advances right after).

Anyone else ever have guilt after a video game romance choice?? Like, I feel really bad! I don't think the game will be like Dragon Age or Mass Effect where the characters will find out and get mad at Geralt. But still, sorry Yen. If you weren't so obnoxious with your constant sarcasm and not giving a shit because you're a sorceress.

P.S. yes I am excited about The Witcher Netflix series BUT I am going to whine about how Henry Cavill is way too pretty. I hope they scratch up his face a bit more, Geralt should have his sexy scars. No real monster hunter would be so smooth skinned.

For all my PC gamers out there, Witcher 3 Game of the Year edition (with all the DLC) is $20 on Steam right now.

It drops down to this price every few months, but let me tell you, it is worth it. I bought the game in June, I've got 57 hours so far and I've barely scratched the surface.

If you like story-rich games with well developed characters and lots of different ways to play, you should really give it a try. With the new Netflix series in development for 2019, everyone is going to be talking about these characters.

If you want to be a completist, you can grab the first game and Witcher 2 for $5 right now as well. They are not as *polished* as the third game, but you get to meet all the characters a bit earlier and if you play on PC, your saves carry over so the decisions you made can give you little perks. I played them both before hand, but you could just jump into 3 and it gives you a big list of "what would you do if?" questions to help create the backstory from the other two games.

If you grab it, let me know so we can compare adventures!

I grabbed Witcher 3 during the Steam Summer Sale, it was $20 for the game + DLC so I jumped on it. I could have just played Tim's copy, but that would require me to chase him away because Steam's family share only works if the other person is not on their computer. So that was my excuse...I mean, to be honest, I am a nerd and I wanted to collect the Steam Trading Cards.

Well worth the money though, I'm loving it. I really liked Witcher 2 and I could feel myself becoming obsessed with the world (I even started to read the books) and Witcher 3 is everything and more and OMG SO PRETTY!

But I really love the characters. This is a STORY HEAVY game, even though there is plenty of action, adventure and exploration. I think Witcher has the edge on other games in this genre because of the novels and the very rich world that the game writers had to pull from. Compared to a series like Tomb Raider, let's say, where Lara Croft is pretty much THE character and you know about her and everyone else is just set decoration. Witcher has characters all over the place, people with backstories that they are happy to share with you if that is your play style. (I can't help but play Geralt as the badass with a heart of gold, sorry if it is cliche. Maybe the second time through I'll be a dick to people and tell them to suck it up when they are crying to me about their dead wife).

I've logged 16 hours so far in the game, Tim completed the game and has 222 hours. So I have SO much game left to go through, so many stories. When the game starts, it seems like you can just go from point A to point B and complete the story. But riding around pays off. Yesterday, I was meandering around an area and I found an abandoned village full of ghouls. Geralt wiped them out and when he killed the last one, the townspeople returned and set up shop!

And not every quest ends in a battle. The quest I did last night, I had the option of fighting the monster or using the monster for a ritual to make it into a protective spirit. Of course, getting the monster to the right location took a little bit of fighting, but nothing too difficult for Geralt. After he did the ritual, I followed the creature to gather clues about the story. It is so satisfying to make a choice in the game and have it actually be a choice and not just a dialogue option that leads to the same outcome no matter what.

Most hilarious quest so far was going to find a villager's goat that had wandered off. It liked a little bell, so Badass Geralt is walking around the woods, ringing a little bell. LOL. It was fantastic.

Anyway, I'm only 16 hours in so obviously I have barely scratched the surface, but if you are into games with great story (and you can put the difficulty all the way down to pretty much just play the story) watch for this to drop back down to $20 and grab it. So worth it.

Also, did I mention how pretty? (also, Geralt's voice? Rawr. It's probably the thing that worries me the most about the Netflix series. The voice actor for the game was so unique, how could I accept another voice?)

Witcher 3 - Geralt in the Rain

Bonus: I carried over my save from Witcher 2 and I never got around to getting Geralt's tattoo removed after the "Hangover" style quest in that game so when I started up Witcher 3, there is was. **facepalm** sorry Geralt! Don't drink so much next game!
