tv thoughts: Doctor Who, SHIELD etc

Finally watched Kill the Moon and...I dunno, I think I might be done with Doctor Who. It wasn't a bad episode, but it felt like ground we had already covered multiple times with 10 and 11. I have the next episode ready to watch but I'm just sorta..meh about it.
On the other hand, I did keep going with SHIELD (had it on in the background while running around in Final Fantasy) and I feel like it's setting up some interesting plot lines.
OAUT is still just a show. Not compelling enough for me to get excited about but it makes for good breakfast watching.
And coming completely out of left field, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles SHOCKED me with a twist ending. I was not expecting so many feels from a Nickelodeon cartoon!
...er, I guess Korra is back too? Haven't watched any of the new episodes yet. Whoops.

Date: 2014-10-13 03:47 am (UTC)Really liking this season of SHIELD so far. I had a hard time keeping up in the first season but I'm just so invested now.

Date: 2014-10-13 12:26 pm (UTC)I'm really interested in where they're going to take SHIELD this year!
OUAT is on my "to start" list but I like watching that one in clumps so starting may happen in December.

Date: 2014-10-13 10:58 pm (UTC)OUAT is a good show for background noise LOL. I tend to watch it while doing other things. It just never engages me too deeply, partly because of their insistence on stupid flashbacks ALL THE TIME.

Date: 2014-10-14 03:45 pm (UTC)I'm also not a fan of when creators get tricky so they think things have to totally come out of the blue to surprise the viewer when no, I'm happy to not be surprised if the show is done well. I do not like a surprise that comes out of nowhere because when you look at it the twist really makes no sense.

Date: 2014-10-13 03:31 pm (UTC)I should give SHIELD another chance. I wanted to like it so much, but I disliked it from the first ep and gave up somewhere around ep five. :/

Date: 2014-10-13 10:58 pm (UTC)SHIELD is ok, it never really gets beyond ok. But you can probably Google and find a list of the top episodes from Season 1, safely watch those, and move on LOL.

Date: 2014-10-13 11:01 pm (UTC)It's a solid show? Not amazing but not horrid? Season 1 was probably the worst season, but I'm always impressed with the choices they make at the start of each year to shake things up. That being said, I find I have little or no attachment to the actual characters. Fun stories are told, but I'm not really sad when someone leaves...if they do leave. Which they never seem to actually do!

Date: 2014-10-13 11:11 pm (UTC)And you got a Buffy reference in there too! 10 points to Gryffindor!
Capaldi's Doctor is obviously having a crisis of identity, they have made that very clear. Seeing images of 11 from "Beast Below" and the "we don't walk away" quote in the discussion of an episode where he did walk away and was going to let humanity get away with whatever...I know it feels like this is all building up to something but I think as a faithful viewer of the show for the past few years, I'm getting tired of the build up episodes. I know Moffatt's routine and I'm tiring of the "i'm going to be clever, just wait!" I don't mind the clever, it's the WAITING that is becoming unbearable. Especially when the clever ends up just being overly complicated rather than actually clever.

Date: 2014-10-14 06:01 pm (UTC)However, I wouldn't characterise his actions as 'let humanity get away with whatever' - he left Clara is charge, trusting her absolutely. And considering how he sued to think himself the centre of everything... Well, he's come quite a long way. :)
Personally then I like it all very much. (As you could no doubt tell.) But to each their own.
ETA: And thank you for saying nice things about my meta! ♥
