wasn't meant to be

Had to pass on the house. While we knew a counter offer was coming, they went up $18,000 from our offer (because we asked for closing cost help), which was too much and after doing some calculations, there was no way we could take that on. We really liked the house, but it wasn't perfect (I mean, there was no fridge or washer/dryer plus mysterious water in the basement).
Oh well! My mantra tonight has been: Better to be depressed for a day than broke for 30 years!
In other news, we made it to day 24 on Don't Starve before freezing to death!

So now that we have the hang of surviving until winter, who wants to give me winter time tips? (I'm looking at you

Date: 2015-07-09 11:53 am (UTC)OKAY SO WINTER.
1.) Rabbit earmuffs. Catch two rabbits, pick some sticks, make earmuffs. These will keep you warm longer.
2.) Alchemy stone. Or Temperature stone. I forget what it's called. Some rocks, a pick, and I think one other thing that is rock related. Also keeps you warm longer.
3.) LOTS OF MEAT. Now is the time to kill a bunch of spiders and rabbits and birds and beefalo (if you can). Meat spoils less fast in the winter, so you can keep it in just a chest and it lasts quite a while. If you saved a lot of veggies from fall you can make meat balls all winter, although I always end up surviving only on meat by the end.
Always have the stuff on hand to make a fire, because you might need to run off into the field to find berries or mushrooms. Berries are marked on your map, shrooms not so much. If I find a place with lots of them, I tend to post a sign if I think I won't remember. There are usually a lot of shrooms in the birch woods though. Also with the stuff to make a fire you can recharge your alchemy stone and continue on.
Make sure during winter you get the stuff to make an umbrella and an endothermic fire, because spring and summer are coming and SUMMER. SERIOUSLY. FUCKING. BLOWS.

Date: 2015-07-11 02:44 pm (UTC)Also bees. Beehives are an awesome way to not starve. especially if you ever decide to play the librarian, bees are vital to keeping her sane.
I think now with all the expansions the wikia is kinda necessary, it was really only possible to figure stuff out while going along with each expansion, because there were only a few new things at a time. I can't even imagine trying it now. I actually had to look at the wikia when RoG came out, because some of the materials for stuff changed and suddenly I was like WHAT. BUT IT HAS NEVER REQUIRED THAT TO MAKE AN ALCHEMY ENGINE BEFORE. OH GOD WHAT DO I DO I AM GOING TO DIE.
Tip for spring when you survive winter for the first time: FIND GEARS. FIND THEM QUICKLY. If you do not have a fridge by the time summer arrives you gonna DIE.
