So, THE TRUTH IS REVEALED: DOCTOR WHO RETURNS TO STREAMING AS AMAZON PRIME EXCLUSIVE

Here I was hoping BBC America would get their act together and start their own streaming but NOPE Amazon flashed the most cash.

Not sure when this goes live as I don't see it on the site right now.

Ah well, at least we can finally watch season 9!

No worries, I've waited this long! I could have acquired it through other means if I was desperate. :) Also the library has the DVD as well. TOO MANY SHOWS! Trying to catch up on 'The Americans' right now along with the new season of Daredevil and who knows what else. :)

I am mad I cannot afford Prime. I do have Netflix and Hulu though. I am SO behind since I lost BBC America.

Yeah this whole "exclusive streaming" stuff is getting old. I understand when Netflix MAKES its own shows, but buying rights to popular shows really isn't fair.

I'm wondering if Amazon will ever go to a monthly payment option, would make Prime easier for people to afford.

Ugh, but I don't have Amazon Prime and don't want it, and I do have Netflix! It used to be so convenient to watch legally... thanks a lot, BBC.

I hope you enjoy season 9 though, I liked it a lot! :)

I'm looking forward to watching it. I had it show up once from the library, but we were *right* in the middle of Eureka so no one wanted to start a new show just yet.

I wonder if Amazon will ever start a monthly rather than yearly payment for Prime. It's really the same amount as Netflix and Hulu, they just make you pay upfront.

For people who can afford Prime: Yay! For people who can't (i.e. me): Oh :P

Yeah. I heard about that.

I did get Amazon Prime when it went on sale in February. It's a nice enough service.

Yeah, we just have internet through a local provider for $30/month and then streaming Netflix, Hulu, and Prime (though Prime is my parent's fault as they bought it for us a couple years ago for Christmas and now we can''t give it up LOL).

Still, if you do the math, it's less than any Comcast/Verizon bill would be. Just a bummer that you have to pay for Prime up front as opposed to a monthly fee.

Yeah, I don't get why BBC America doesn't stream. It's annoying, especially with shows that only air once or twice.

It's the usual US vs UK rights to things and who owns the distribution. I was reading an article where people were speculating about a streaming BBC service then quickly pointed out it could not be allowed in the US because of how BBC sells its shows to different channels. UGH!

At least BBC America has started streaming recent episodes of their shows on their website this past year. Their redesigned for no reason website that looks like shit and I can't find anything on anymore, though. But considering that half their broadcast schedule is Star Trek: TNG, I never expected them to have a whole library available.

I don't have Hulu Plus but I was waiting to do a week free trial and burn through a bunch of Classic Who but now they don't have it and no one else does either and I don't understand why BBC won't sell the rights to anyone.

Arrrrghhh. Would have been nice if BBCA had done it instead. Meh.

Looks like you'll be watching as soon as the 27th!! Season 9 was glorious! I know you'll love it!

*HUGS*

Yeah, I'm disappointed that this was the direction they chose to go. We share a Prime account with my sister, so we get the free shipping but we don't get the streaming rights. And I'm just not able to justify the cost. I also think it's prohibitively expensive for many people. It may be lower cost in the long run, but big upfront payments are impossible for far too many people. I just don't think it's fair. (But hell, when is any of this stuff ever fair? Not really on any business's radar.) We got series 9 from the library and really enjoyed it. But it was pretty stressful for us trying to cram the whole thing into one week. (There's no WAY it would be possible if it had been a US season with 20-some-odd episodes!) I have to roll my eyes when I see whole seasons of DVDs on the "Lucky Day" display at our library (new releases, 3 days for dvds, 7 days for books) Who could possibly watch 22 episodes in 3 days? Someone I'm sure, but not I!

Well, I'm sure Amazon doesn't think much of a one time $99 payment when people are forking over over $100/month to Comcast/Verizon for just television. And those are probably the people they are targeting. But I am shocked they haven't though to offer a monthly plan yet.

And I fought SO HARD against the single season packaging at my library, I HATE having to binge watch shows in 7 days, especially American shows or anything that is an hour long or "heavy" in the content. I just can't do it. Mostly it came down to the logistics of damaged items, that if you damage a DVD in a season, you pay for a full replacement season, not just a single disc. it's stupid but that's how it works. :(

Amazon prime is expensive. Well, I guess if people want to watch Doctor Who that don't own the dvds... :/
