The only reason I knew about it was because of this teeny little article in Ent Weekly from sometime last year. Sounds pretty cool, though. :)

I am a bit curious how you didn't know. I've mentioned it. Kim has mentioned it.

We're both giddy and excited about it.

Of course, I read Gaiman's blog, so that's where I am...

I'm about 10 pages from the end of "Neverwhere", which Gaiman book should I pick up next?

I'm giddy about this as well. all giddiness be united!
I also read Gaiman's blog so I've known and seen this for quite some time now. I showed the trailer to my sister a week ago, and she said it was freakishly weird... but I really love it.
You should pick up smoke and mirrors... I think..

okay, I'm getting "Smoke & Mirrors" and "American Gods" next.

Oh the trailer was crazy, I hope it's as magical as it looks too, I'd love to see something as abstract and odd as "Dark Crystal" and "Labrynth" be made now and become a cult classic.

Ah, the world of The Neil

If you've read all of The Sandman, including Endless Nights, pick up either Smoke and Mirrors, which is a short story anthology containing many really amazing pieces of work, or American Gods, which is a big novel which will really bend your mind.

His newest novel, "Anansi Boys," will be out soonish. I don't know exactly when, though.

And if you want something really interesting, get your library to order his graphic novel, "1602," which asks the question, "What would it be like if the Marvel Superheroes had lived in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries?"

we actually have "1602" in the system, I checked it out when it first came out but never got time to read it (and there was a HUGE request list so I couldn't renew it either). I'll probably pick it up again sometime. I have a TON of graphic novels to get thru at the moment, thank YOU! I saw that "Y" had finally started getting processed thru interlibrary loan, so I should have that seen. And another copy of SiP came in for me too (High School?)

It's strange that you'd get High School, because that's a later story.

Except it's not. It's a prequel.

It's the whole story of the school play, and how Francine and Katchoo first met. Don't worry. It's a standalone, and you can read it without having read anything else.

Yeah, well, I had to order the SiP books from out of county, and they didn't have the entire series so I just got the ones that I figured could be read out of sequence, like 'High School' (the little Xena comic at the end was cute).

Just checked my current interlibrary loan items and it seems they were able to find a copy of the Complete SiP book that Pocket put out late last year. yay!

try American Gods. That's a real pickle of a book. Very Excellent.

Ah YES! that was the one I was originally looking for (because you talked about it so much) when I found 'Neverwhere'. I shall order that one now...

If I could find my copy I would let you borrow it. Oh yeah I also finished Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. Pretty much completely different from the movie.

did you like Hitchhikers? There's plenty more where that came from if you need something to kill time between now and July 16th. :-)

and I think we're gonna do the Columbia one just because it's closer to everyone.

you probably did and I wasn't paying attention or something, I dunno. If it wasn't for the Henson-Gaiman connection, I might not have found it. I just ordered the illustrated script from the library too haha. Yay!!!!

yeah actually I read an article about that in one of my Entertainment WEekly magazines, saying how the director was thinking it was crap but had to rpesent it at a film festival and everyone ended up loving it to death. Neil Gaiman was surprisingly pleased as he didn't expect such a good reaction to it as well.

Just because nobody mentioned it I'm going to say you should read "Stardust". I don't think it's as good as some of Gaiman's other works but it's still REALLY good. But certainly read " american gods" first. And MIRRORMASK looks very good indeed.

I actually have a copy of "Stardust" that I took from the old withdrawn pile back when I was paging at MDC...and I know I read it but for the life of me I can't remember it! But it's on my list, yet since I own it, it keeps getting pushed aside for the books I only get for 3 weeks.
