steel drums are no more!

So, I got a new phone this week because my parents upgraded their plan. It's actually pretty nice, a Samsung d807 blah blah. But it comes with some of the most HORRIBLE ring tones I've ever heard. So I tried to get
zaubervz to hook me up with some better ones but his program would not let him share ringtones with others. So
jimithingy had to go to the store anyway to get his brother a birthday present, so I asked if we could look for a program that would make mp3s into ringtones. 3 stores later (Target, Wal-Mart, Cingular service store) we finally go to CompUSA and find an inexpensive little program (ToneThis).
I just installed the thing and it worked like a charm. Now instead of these horrible faux steel drums, I have the theme from 'The Office' as my ringtone. Still can't figure out how to make a decent background though. Each time I send an image to my phone it ends up looking icky. So I just cheated and snapped a picture of Veronica from the calendar we have, and that will do for now...
anyone know what resolution it's best to save images at when you're attempting to make a phone background?
