Ooh yay, someone posted the Diamond Select Toys pics from Toy Fair which means BUFFY STUFF!

Rumors are flying that the Oz/Wood/Dru line has been cancelled, but they have the figures (and the constructed Judge) on display. Maybe they've changed their mind? Or maybe they are going to mix it up a bit and release them in a different wave. I think the Oz sculpts look really good.

Yet another wave of Willows is in the line-up, but at least they are new costumes! Finally, a Halloween Willow! (though her torso seems a bit long and skinny in the wrong parts, but oh well). Kendra also get a figure as does *barf* Kennedy.

And then there's this....which I'm not really sure what that's all about. Someone on [livejournal.com profile] whedonesque said that they are a new series, with less articulation in the figures but they come with extra body parts instead to create scenes. Not sure about it. These are clearly still in the basic stages. It could be really cool or sorta dumb. I'd prefer just to have different playsets with spots for my current figures but oh well. I heard the Library Playset didn't sell as well as they hoped so that probably put them off those.

Seems to be a statue line coming out too. Not really interested in these, they will probably be quite big and expensive. They sure do look cool though.

I'm still on the fence about Mr Gordo and Feigenbaum. The bunny is adorable though. I'm pretty sure that's now what Mr Gordo looked like for the 30 seconds he was on screen. But he is sorta mooshed into a box. *sigh* I should ask for a Time & Space Toys giftcard for my birthday so I can buy them all!!!

[livejournal.com profile] faeriesfolly posted some sweet, simple, and awesome icons on her icon journal [livejournal.com profile] petitemerci and it made me think - why am I stressing over text when the image can say it all!!! So thank you dearie for inspiring me! I made a handful of simple icons from the TONS of pictures on my poor D drive.

Under the cut we have some Kristen Bell, Star Wars, Firefly, Buffy, Last Unicorn, and even one Strangers in Paradise & Sandman...

All the recent news about the Buffy Season 8 comic and the "Tooned Up" Buffy statues got me into icon making mode! So here's a handful to share:

I must be hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] blu_harvest too much, because I gave into the spoilers far too easily. But I had to know. I had to see!!!

The first 5 pages of the Season 8 Buffy comic are up for preview at Dark Horse's website. I'm already in love with it. If only for the...well, I'll let you see for yourself .

Oh that made me *squee* like a fangirl.

Is it March yet?

*fangirls* OMG Brian K Vaughan has joined the writing team of Lost! "Executive Story Editor" to be precise. Maybe he can help stop the total suckage! Or, at least, make them stop taking themselves to damn seriously ALL THE TIME!

AND he's going to work on the new Buffy comic coming out next year!

*flails*

ZOMG - here's an update with even more comic writers that have signed up to do Buffy s8.

*flails and falls over*

uuummm...Diamond, that's just ugly. Seriously, what is that? Crappy little mini-figures of Buffy & Angel in a snowglobe - that can be cute. Giant image of The First behind them? Fugly.

see, I don't buy everything!

Well, since I have effectively popped my pre-ordering cherry, things have gotten a bit crazy.

It all started with [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy actually pre-ordering the Wii, something we've never really done for a game or system before.

Then I effectively pre-ordered my MINI.

And last night, I went ahead and pre-ordered the next wave of Buffy figures. Now, I know, you're thinking "Sam, didn't you just buy a Drusilla and Oz set from someone in the DCSWCC?" and the answer would be yes - though those were the original Dru & Oz figures - made by Moore Collectibles (and honestly I can't bring myself to open them). These are NEW from Diamond Select. Plus, PLUS! with these figures, you get a piece of The Judge (that "smurf" villian from the first half of season 2) and if you collect them all, you can build him! So, you see, I really had to pre-order them ALL. I couldn't just have an arm and a leg of the judge. nope nope nope.

Um...and since I was pre-ordering anyway, I went ahead and bought "The Wish" Cordelia figure...which bumped the price up to over $50, which meant I qualified for 2 free figures...so I got Season 5 Spike and the BuffyBot figure...

yeah, internet shopping is bad!!!! I really will stop now until after christmas....really I will....

Great video post from [livejournal.com profile] cj_rss yesterday - I could sit here and re-link everything but I'm far too lazy, so just go to the post and watch Numfar do the dance of joy, an Even Stevphen about Halloween, and the new version of 'This is Halloween' sung by Marylin Manson (that's for you [livejournal.com profile] dstntp1lgr1m. There's also the 'life and death of a pumpkin' but that just freaked me out!!!! Disturbing to say the very least.

In other news, according to evilavatar.com, all those bastards that pre-ordered the PS3 with the sole intention of re-selling it on ebay for an insane amount got bitch slapped today. A new Ebay policy asked that all items listed that were preorders included a picture of the reciept to prove that the preorder had been placed. They used these receipt to track the preorders and there was a conference call this morning to EB Games stores telling them to cancel and refund the orders. *EVIL LAUGH* You all know how much the preorders on Ebay thing has bugged me (see: Puppet Angel) so I'm happy to see that some attempt is being made to stop these guys from making thousands of dollars. I'm sure they'll just go back and preorder and then sell it again once the item is out, but still....

And speaking of pre-orders and collecting, I broke down and joined the Buffy Collector Club that is run thru Time & Space Toys. I recieved as my "free gift" for joining, the Summer's Family Album, which includes the ONLY Joyce Summer's figure out there. It arrived today and I hadnt' realized it was a numbered item! I don't own very many numbered items, so I will cherish the small piece of paper that has the number on it, even if it is 1800 out of 3000!

and I almost forgot - Muppet Show Season 2 will FINALLY be released in "early 2007"! woo-hoo!!

Joss commented on a recent post on [livejournal.com profile] whedonesque about the new buffy comics. It's short and sweet, but he's such a tease! I want to know who the writers are!

I'm really excited about these comics. It's one thing to read the random comics or novels that I find at the library - its another to read something written by a person who knows the characters and their stories as well as we do. *squee*

My box of toys came today! Got my new Buffy figures and Star Wars Unleashed Battle packs for Hoth!

Unfortunately, I've already managed to break one of my buffy figures - Spike was not so "super articulated' as they led me to believe. They included extra arms in the package, so you could take off his red shirt and just have wear his black t-shirt. So I went to take off his arm and SNAP, it broke off in the socket. :( So now I'm filling his shoulder with glue in hopes of re-attaching the thing. Right now he looks very silly, with his axe in hand and rubber bands around his shoulders.

The Buffy figure looks pretty good! I really just wanted the scythe, but I think her face the best yet. Even Dawnie looks cute! Though I forget what the football helmet is for...is that just a reference to "Him"? Still have Cheerleader Buffy, Cordelia, and the star wars toys to take out of the package.

EDIT: ZOMG!!!! Joss is taking over 'Runaways' after BKV steps down!!! *fangirlgasm*

Buffyverse Trivia Contest in D.C.!

I really want to go. I doubt I'd win, but I'd have a lot of fun. :) As long as it's all TV show related, I'd be fine.

EDIT: well, I just emailed in my participation form. It's a Saturday I work, so I'll have to run down there after that, but it will be worth it. [livejournal.com profile] dstntp1lgr1m says he'll come along with me and give it a try. Maybe I should study up...whats the most random buffy question you can think of and I'll see if I know the answer...

Also in Joss-related news - Diamond Select Toys has announced some new 'Serenity' merch, the "River Triumphant" statue. Unfortunately, I think I'm going to have to pass, the base of dead reavers is really a turn off. I wonder if that's detachable...

I'm reading 'Silent Bob Speaks', a book of essays by Kevin Smith written while 'Jay & Silent Bob Strikes Back' was starting to shoot.

Anyway, he just revealed that while he has never seen a single episode of Buffy, Jason Mewes ("Jay") is a hardcore fan, the kind that would re-inact each episode on Wednesday morning for a totally clueless Smith.

I have this great fanboy image in my head of Jay bouncing around Kevin, doing slayer moves and babbling about the Buffy/Angel/Riley triangle ahhaha.

off to see some Snakes that apparently have escaped onto a Plane.

So...remember how in my last post I said I'd hold back from spending because summer was over...yeah...well...I double checked the calendar, summer is not officially over yet...

See, I got my hair cut today (FINALLY!). I am really REALLY happy with it. I went for Kristen Bell's haircut from Teen People (oct 2004) only shorter, because I wanted a cut. It turned out really well, it was very slow at the Hair Cuttery so the the stylist took her time showing me how to style it. Then, as I was getting ready to leave, I realized I owned absolutely know hair-doing supplies, so I asked her what she used to make my hair look as cute as it did at that moment. So she gave me the two items (a gel and a spray) and then I sheepishly admitted I probably needed to buy a hairdryer. (the hairdryer I have I stole from my mom, and I'm pretty sure it's from the 1970s, the thing is LOUD and HOT and HUGE). So that knocked my simple haircut pricetag up to $76. Plus tip. So much for cutting back.

But, does this make me think I should behave myself the rest of the month? Not really. One of my DCSWCC friends alerted me to a sale at AFK on Buffy figures. Check it out - I get the Buffy and Dawn figures PLUS Cheerleader buffy for $30 PLUS for $15 more I can get You're Welcome Cordelia and School Hard Spike. Now, I really don't need a Dawn figure, but of all the dawn figures, this one looked the best to me. Chosen Buffy I need because she has the Slayer Sythe! I need that. Cheerleader Buffy? She might not be the best mold ever but she's cheerleader buffy!!! The "You're Welcome" Cordelia is probably the best Cordy mold out there (the other one I want is "The Wish", but that's Buffy Cordy, and this will be Angel Cordy...) and School Hard Spike looks fantastic! And I do not have a Spike (apart from Chosen "freebie yellow" Spike) or a Cordelia! How could I let this fantastic offer pass me by!!??

To just add to that, the same DCSWCC member who showed me the sale has offered to sell me some of his old Buffy figures that he's trying to clear out (they're expecting their first child so he's trying to clear at a room). So, hopefully, I'll be getting two Oz figures (normal Oz and Werewolf Oz) along with Dopplegangland Willow, Anyanka and Vamp Dru at the October meeting (can't make the september meeting due to a play).

I still need to get the Sunnydale library playset...that's totally going on my christmas list.

Pics of the Buffy figures from Wizard World Chicago. I thought most of these looked better in the previous pictures. But the biggest complaint has to be with the "deluxe" figures that have too much articulation! They are freakishly out of proportion to accomodate the HUGE ball/socket joints.

White Witch Willow amuses me just because you can make her sit like that, but I already have 3 Willow on my desk. I do like the Halloween Willow though, but her waist is almost non-existant. There are definate proportion issues going on, especially in the season 7 regular Willow, her body is far too tiny. Diamond is getting sloppy.

Oh well, if they look like crap, then I won't buy them. Saves me money.

Speaking of spending money on toys I already have too many of - the Star Wars Battlepacks are just EVIL! They keep repacking toys, and as an opener, I usually don't buy stuff I already own, BUT the fiends at Hasbro somehow found out that if they put the toys in really really cool packaging, I would be tempted to buy toys I had just to have the really cool box. For example - Battle above the Sarlacc. I'm pretty sure I have all of those figures (except the Skiff guard, but he's ugly) so I really don't need this, but look at the cool little Skiff and the Sarlacc??? Oh now I want it!

Chewbacca got no love. He's totally in that scene but not included in the battlepack. If I was an uber-nerd, I would write a strongly worded letter to Hasbro telling them that Wookiees have feelings too.
