Just so you understand where my brain is after a full day of work and then a complicated board game, I can't stop reading Swan Boy.

I can't decide if it is hilarious or awful or both but I keep laughing so clearly it is time for bed.

Mississippi's Confederate Heritage Month proclamation prompts outcry

Seriously, how could they not think this was going to cause issues? They did it to CAUSE issues. What is wrong with the U.S. right now? Why are these states going insane?

All they had to do was create a "Civil War Rememberance" Month or something like that, honor everyone who fought, talk about the issues. No, instead they specifically focus on the Confederates.

**sigh** between this and the anti-LGBT laws that are getting pushed through left and right, I'm starting to be pro-wall, but I'd like that wall built across the Mason-Dixon line.

Sylvia gave me a box of her old Barbies to get rid of so I naturally thought maybe I could sell them on eBay for her...

...dear gods, if you want to see something disturbing, go to eBay and do a search for "lot of Barbies".

It's just these random piles of naked dolls.

WTF.

Anyway, if anyone wants Barbies on the cheap, let me know. I don't plan on listing the Barbies for a few weeks since I need to sort them and take photos etc.

This is a legit book. It's at the library in the film studies area.

This is a real book. It's at the library. Check it out. #books #movies #nicolascage

Mind you, it's not a very *thick* book but she is serious in her studies. Reminds me of that episode of Community when Abed took the course on Cage and by the end, couldn't decide if he was an idiot or a genius.

ALL THE NOPES GO TO THIS: Reboot of 'Labyrinth' in the works.

ALL THE WTFS GO TO THIS: Gillian Anderson offered less money for X-Files reunion series.

This song is stuck in my head, I can't stop watching it...I think it is the pretty that is Oscar Isaac and the ridiculous faces that Adam Driver has to make when he sings the noises:

Speaking of Adam Driver, Star Wars + SNL is a good mix:

and I can't remember if I posted this one so I am doing it again because it makes me laugh EVERY. DAMN. TIME. (I totally know collector's like this. I love them but...they can be such nerds LOL)

and now, to shovel snow so I can feel less guilty about playing Fallout the rest of the day...

You know, I thought I had worked my way through the Into the Woods panic last week, talking myself down and trying to accept the movie version of the musical.

Then I found THIS! (SPOILERS IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MUSICAL!)

And now I am raging again because this means some of my favorite songs may be cut or at least drastically altered to fit this new version of the play. Sondheim doesn't sound particularly happy about it, just sort of...begrudging. Like "Yes, I cashed your check already so I'm legally obligated to rewrite my story, better me than you...assholes"

At least I got the DVD from the library.

'Equestria Girls', a My Little Pony offshoot, will have a movie-length premiere'

WTF is that.

Seriously, I'm not sure what they are supposed to be. I guess they are half pony/half human but they look there is a bit of feline in there as well.

When fans say they try to figure out which pony they are most like, they are not imagining the ponies in a human form, but in the ADORABLE PONY FORM!

This is some kind of abomination.

(Also, should we even start in on the super-tiny wastes and the fact that this form makes them easier to sexualize? Yeah, let's just not go there right now).

And what is Hasbro thinking in terms of marketing? Are these going to be creepy Barbie doll style toys? Do they really think teens will watch this? Who is the market? This is not for the "Bronies" or the "Pegasisters".

**sigh** someone at Hasbro clearly does not understand the appeal of MLP:FiM. It's adorable and cute and they are ponies in adventures. I do not understand this current TV trope of aging up the characters into tween/teen form. It just creeps me out.

I hope this bombs and I hope it bombs hard.

Is it just me or does the name of the newest Dunkin Donut flavor sound less like a pastry and more like a sexual maneuver?

Reverse Boston Creme.

yeah.

Random things I noticed the other day that made me go "hm?" When I was at SDCC, I got a flier advertising the premiere of the new version of Hawaii Five-O. On the SDCC Free Ringtone flier was a picture of Daniel Dae-Kim (Gavin from Angel, Jin from LOST) and Grace Park (Sharon/Athena/8 from Battlestar Galactica), two other guys had I had never seen and a bit of beach. So, from that picture, I assumed that all 4 of these actors were the stars of the show. But then I saw the commercials on TV and noticed two things missing - Daniel Dae-Kim AND Grace Park! Yeah, there are two half-second shots - one of Grace in her bikini on the beach, and Daniel in the background of a scene. Neither of them gets speaking clips that would show them as main characters!

So, what's up with that? Were these two actors only featured on the SDCC promotional materials because they knew that SDCC would attract LOST and BSG fans? Are they even an important part of the cast? Is it just me or are they more interested in showing me two really boring white guys in the commercials over an attractive Korean actors and a gorgeous babe? I mean, you'd think they would WANT to show you more of Grace at least! Blah.

Today we got a copy The Berenstain Bears' Computer Trouble. It's a modern tale of the Bears familiy spending too much time on the computers. Eventually Papa Bear decrees that everyone gets 1 hour of computer time per day. So brother plays outside, Sister gets out her dolls, Mama starts quilting and Papa returns to his workshop. You'll notice these are all solitary activities. Finally, they decide to go out as a family and do something together. What do they end up doing? Going to a movie, where they sit in silence for two hours. LOL! I know the moral of the story was to not spend all day on the internet but it made me laugh that this was the family activity they did together haha.

Two very amusing patron transactions this week on the same subject: puberty. One patron refused to say "S-E-X" to me. She just kept doing the eyebrow raise and saying "I need books on...you know" and I was like "erm...puberty?" and she was like OMG! It would have been hilarious if it wasn't so sad. I feel bad for her child since she will grow up being embarrassed by her sexuality if this is how she's told about it! I had the opposite today, with a parent that was a little too excited about her child growing up, but the child demanded a book because they didn't want to talk about it.

TGIF! I'm ready for the weekend!

GameCrush makes me throw up a little in my mouth. I mean, yes, a fool and his money are soon parted and if you're a guy and you're so desperate for female interaction AND video games that you will actually pay to play with a girl, that's your stupidty issue. But it's the bit about the girls being on a point system and if they will "do more" than just game, they will get tipped extra points by the players and then they can use those points and redeem them for cash...I dunno, it bothers me.

Um...I had something else to say but I just got REALLY tired (when did it get to be 11:40?) so I'm gonna get some sleep. TTFN

So, at the Teen Interest Group meeting I attended today, there was a big discussion about Sport Stacking. Have you all heard of this? It's stacking cups really really fast in a certain order. Apparently, it's considered a "sport" (they actually have kids do it in P.E. class). Well, I'm Googling around now, trying to figure it out and this seems like old news. A lot of the videos are from 2006-07. Looking at Amazon, a lot of the cups are sold out and I'm thinking it's just not a big deal anymore.

anyone heard of this? Feels too young for teen audiences, seems like this program would be more popular with older elementary school kids.

So, I saw the commercial on Cinemax for the Star Wars marathon. It's horrible. (if you don't believe me, here, you can suffer thru it).

I had heard it was bad but this is...this is sorta painful. First - Star Wars already HAS awesome music, why even bother trying to throw pop music in? Star Wars is an ageless thing and slapping Coldplay in the background feels like they are trying to target some random demographic or something.

Second - wtf does this song have to do with star wars???? If you were going to pick a crappy Coldplay song, at least pick a FAST one!!! What is this sad, mopey, blah song?

Cinemax marketing - pop music is great for showing off your fall line-up but don't waste your time and ours with commercials like this one. Plus, it's star wars! If you run it, they will come! It's not even like you have to promote it that much!

Harry Potter does not make me want to shoot people. It's articles like this that make me want to hurt people.

And it's 10 times worse that it's covered in a UK newspaper, making us (as in the U.S.) look even worse than we already do. I SWEAR TO YOU WE ARE NOT ALL RAVING LUNATICS!

Coca-Cola Blak- has anyone had this? I hadn't even heard about it. Sounds...well it sounds kinda nasty. If you have the sound on when you go to the site, it's a sensual female voice calling the drink "sophisticated"....so this is, what, coke for grown ups?

I'm not a fan of coffee, the beverage anyway so it doesn't appeal to me. (But I love coffee ice cream and cake! go figure!)

there was a post in [livejournal.com profile] fanthropology today about the life-sized Britney-Spears-giving-birth statue. I had assumed, as any sane person would, that the statue was a joke, something the Onion made up to get hits. Something the 'Snakes on a Plane' producers put out there to find something even more ridiculous than there movie. But no. It's real. And it scares me. and it's LIFE SIZED! Was that necessary?? And there's this whole big thing about how it's a "pro-life monument". It's just so very very creepy.

Honestly, if you haven't added the [livejournal.com profile] cj_rss feed to your flist, you should. You're missing out on awesome links like this - Brokeback Mountain Action Figures

Tomorrow I get to dress up as 'Sneaks' the library's mascot. Sneaks is a large feline...he wears sneakers. One of the elementary schools is visiting to I shall say hello to them in the cat suit. Hopefully they won't freak out. Sometimes little kids freak out. I haven't been Sneaks in awhile though. Should be fun! I put my camera in my bag so hopefully I can get someone to snap a picture of me so you make all point and laugh. It's good times.

'Great Books' is next week and I have not read very many of the books I was supposed to read for the dicussion groups. I've read a chunk of 'confessions of a closet catholic'(which got annoying after awhile) and 'I am the messenger' (which is awesome!) but I've only flipped thru 'Let me play' (lots of pictures!) and have merely looked at the jacket covers of 'simple as snow' and 'what I call life'. And I saw 'pinned' on the shelf once....

I blame 'I am the Messenger'. Of all the books, it was really good, and when a book is really good, I tend to read it slower. I know that doesn't make sense, but I tend to savor the words more, I want to make sure I understand everything that's going on. If I read fast my comprehension level goes right down the toilet. Plus, it's written by an Australian so it's that much cooler. I really do like it. It's labeled as young adult, which is a shame because it doesn't feel like a YA book. (when I say that I'm referring mostly to all the coming of age, gossip girl, style books). Typically, YA books tend to take place in high school and yadda yadda. This one, I think the protagonist must be 19...so he's out of high school, and driving a taxi around. And since it's Australia, he's playing cards with his friends and drinking beer.

See, he gets this random card one day (Ace of Diamonds I believe) and it has street addresses written down on it. So he goes to these homes and realizes that he has to help the people he sees. It's funny. One of the people he eventually meets up with is a priest who's sad that his church is so empty. He decides that he need to fill up the church at least for one day to make the priest happy. What's his plan? FREE BEER! haha. Ridiculous. Sweet book though. I'm not done with it yet so I can't tell you how it ends, but right now I'm really liking it.

I made some icons...I shall post them soon...
