Guy just waved me down in the parking lot of my apartment complex and said "It's been bugging me for a year, what does your license plate mean???" LOL!

My license plate is ORNGRFL :)

They always guess "orange florida"

I tell them it's my online name, inside joke, but it gets random people to talk to me.

[livejournal.com profile] lostacanthus is stalking me!

Actually, I kind of want to make a website of "Have you seen my car" pictures and have people send them to me. Is that weird?

Still, my car looks a lot cleaner in that photo that it does in real life. she needs a bath. If it is not disgusting on Friday, I might take her to the car wash. Scrub her down before the road trip.

It's hard to find a cool looking license plate frame.

My goal with lil' ORNGRFL is to have most of my fandoms displayed on her in some way. So I'm trying to find a pretty frame for my new plates that says something about one of my loves.

I've found a handful at CafePress, but most of them look pretty bad. (also, CafePress' search function sucks).

If you google "license plate frames" you get a lot of sketchy looking sites to design your own. But I think creating my own might be the best route. I was thinking maybe "My Other Ride is a Firefly" or something Joss related. Or maybe a Star Wars in-joke, since my other idea is to get a vinyl sticker that says "Sunnydale High School Class of '99" for the back.

Suggestions?

ZOMG! My personalized plates arrived today!!! Just now, in fact. I just ripped open the package, and here they are, in my hands. :) As soon as I attach them, my lil' ORNGRFL will be her official name!

I did manage to get a little scratch on her this week. Nothing big, just a smudge on the bumper. It made me sad, but oh well, can't go back in time and un-fuck up. Just got sloppy and forgot about my HUGE blind spot when my top is up. Luckily (?), the person I almost ran into was a co-worker, so she didn't jump out of her car and try to kill me. She was more concerned with my baby. (as she put it, in a fight, she knows her car would win). I didn't even notice the scratch until she told me. Just looks like dirt.

But oh well, [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy said it gives her character. (Did I tell you my Mini is a her? I mean, a car with that many ways to accessorize? It's totally a chick.)

The next step? Ordering some cool vinyl stickers! I want to make a few that I can switch out - I'm thinking Sunnydale High, Neptune High, and maybe something Star Wars related. There are a few different sites to order from, but they are sort of on the expensive side. I did just get $50 for my birthday though...

we went over to a friend's place last night and there was absolutely no parking in the designated parking areas. So they said I could park my mini at the front of their garage. This would be the first attempt at parallel parking. This is also how I found out that my Mini has a sensor in the rear that beeps when you start back into something.

It starts at about...oh...5 feet. A solid, steady beep...beep...beep

Then as you get closer, the beep speeds up ala a heart moniter. To the point that, when you've got 1 1/2 - 2 feet worth of space, the beep turns into a steady "beeeeeeeeeeep" and freaks you out. It's like Beaker is in the back of my car screaming at me to stop!

Needless to say, it can make parallel parking a bit nerve wracking. Though this will help when it comes to avoiding small children or animals, I suppose.

Anyhoozit, even though I've sort of missed the window, HAPPY NEW YEAR everybody!

oh, and also HAPPY BIRTHDAY to [livejournal.com profile] maybemanda!!!!

Well, now that I've had a chance to drive my Mini around a bit, let me tell you...OMG SO FUN!

Of course, I'm coming from a pretty old car - a car that vibrated when you hit 40 and moaned and creaked as you neared 50 and made you crank up the radio once you were at 60.

The Mini? Well, it's dangerous. I can get up to 70 and feel like I'm going 20 because the ride is so quiet, so smooth.

And it's fully automatic - lots of little electronics in the key and in the car, such an upgrade from the escort, which had "child safety" locks - which means I had to manually unlock all my doors, even when I was on the inside of the car, before I could open them. The key has a little battery in it, and while it's in the ignition of the car, it re-charges the battery - pretty high tech stuff!

Of course, there's the whole convertible part. True, I'll probably have to wait a couple months to fully try it out, but let me just tell you, it's pretty sweet watching that hood roll back. You have the option of just pulling back the front bit, creating a "sun roof" of sorts. Or you can hold the button down longer and have it all come down.

The only downside is the back seats. Like most convertibles, the back seats are just sort of there for looks. I mean, [livejournal.com profile] zaubervz can probably fit back there, but he's a beanpole of a kid. The fact that you can push the front seats so far back that they are up against the back seats? Yeah, it's a tight squeeze. But one person would probably be comfortable enough stretched out back there.

I'm still trying to figure out where everything is. I'll have to go and take a picture of the dashboard so you can see how ridiculous it is. Everything is in the middle of the car - the window controls, the speedometer, everything. So it's a bit crazy trying to figure out what buttons to press at the moment.

But I love it. I feel so very good about this purchase. ORNGRFL is totally my baby. I'm sending in the paperwork ASAP to get my personalized plates. Then WATCH OUT! hehe

Just a quick post from [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy's parents in NJ! Got lots of fatty loots this holiday - I think if I watched all the dvds I got at once, I'd be in front of the TV for a couple days. FINALLY I own the Red Dwarf series on DVD (well, I-IV) and Superman Returns (mmmm superman...)

We're getting ready to have some lobster! How crazy is that? Crustaceans for Christmas (it still feels like christmas since we're not at home...I can't explain it, it won't be officially over until we're back at the apartment, just the two of us...then comes the post-present depression)

I'll tell you more of our adventures when we return, which should be tomorrow. Probably post pics and such to bore you with, because that's what I do. We're currently debating the Xbox360 situation. On one hand, the sale that was going on at Toys R Us is over...but our Xbox is pretty much worthless, so to upgrade would be a good idea.

Oh, and I don't know when I'm gonna go pick up my Mini. I sent the loan stuff in via the interwebs, and I have no clue how long that will take. I might just go down to the bank on Friday and see if I can get the paperwork faster. Hopefully, the car will be mine before we can get too far in 2007.

OMFG!

So, we're in the car, driving up 695 to [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy's grandmother's house. And my phone rings. And I'm like "wtf? who's calling me at 3pm on the saturday before xmas?" So I pull out my phone, expecting to see [livejournal.com profile] blu_harvest or my parent's name on the screen. But it's just some phone number. It has the 410 area code though, so I figure I better answer it.

"Hello?"
"Samantha?"
"This is she."
"Hi, this is Brian, from the Mini dealership. I assume you've been keeping track of your car online?"
"Oh yes!"
"Well, it arrived here about half an hour ago."
"WHAT! OMG OMG OMG!!! *spazzes* Last time I checked, it had said it just arrived in New York!"
"Well, they usually give it 2-3 days to get down from there, but it's really only a 5 hour drive...so it's here now."
"wow...omg...that's so great!"
"We're about to close though, but I wanted to let you know. I still needs to have the extras installed, but it should be ready for you by next week. Will you be available to come by and pick it up?"

OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's here!!!! It's really actually here!! I could have my car, MY CAR in a week!!!!!!!!

*spazzes*

lil ORNGRFL has arrived in New York City!!!!!

No idea how long it takes the cars to go thru the "quality control" check and then get shipped down to Maryland. But it seems like everything is right on schedule!

en route

my Mini is on the boat, crossing the Atlantic as I type this!!!

[livejournal.com profile] simontrueheart estimates to sail from England to the US will probably take 4 days to a week.

*crosses fingers*

Of course, she's got to stop in NYC, hitch a ride to MD, and once we get here, they make her look all snappy and sharp with her bonnet stripes and white mirror caps etc.

Still, the odds look good that I should have little ORNGRFL in early January. :D
orangerful: (MINI // orangerful)
My poor car, my little red escort, she's a good girl but she's definately on her last legs:

- the parking brake light will not go off, even when the parking brake is off.

- half of my dashboard lights have gone out...luckily, it's nothing too important. Just engine temperature. I can still see the speedometer and gas gauge.

- some part of my engine is being held together with twisty ties, and has been for over a year (still, that's not safe)

- that rattling noise (I turn the stereo up to block this out usually, but when you have other people in the car, it's just awkward).

- the constant vibrations that cause the rattling noises.

- today, my lock on the driver side was practically frozen stuck even though it was not that cold out (I was able to get the passenger side open and crawl over, but it's still a bit embarassing when everyone is waiting in the parking lot at work and staring at me.

- my trunk does not stay open. Instead, it's a race against time to see how quickly you can grab what you need from the trunk before it slams shut on your head or arm.

My Mini needs to get on that boat and stat!!! It's getting to the point where I'm starting to not feel safe driving. Like she could pass out at any time, right out from under me.
orangerful: (okey-day! // orangerful)
So, my parents - wow.

First they tell me they will actually help me get my MINI cooper.

Then my mom says that I just have to get personalized plates if I'm getting a MINI!

Well, since she's twisting my arm...

so, 7 letters/numbers - what should my personalized plate say? Here's what I've brainstormed so far:

SEZ ME (see, those are my initials! and it's Me! see how that works?)

ZOMG111

S0 L33T

L33TZ0R

ORNGRFL (though I will most likely get "orangerful" on the side of my car later on)

SAMMIE

any other suggestions?
orangerful: (nothing to do but smile // orangerful)
Well, after many months and weeks of waffling around, I finally set a date.

Next Friday, November 10th, I'm going down to Tate MINI of Annapolis and ordering my MINI.

Yep, I give them $1000 and they will factory order my exact car that I want. I was too late to get a 2006, but it's only $100 more (well, $105, with tax) for the 2007 model, and if I place it this month, I should be one of the first built and shipped, so hopefully I'll have it by early to mid January. How sweet will that be?

So, yes, I'm done with the "ooh can I get it used?" "oooh what color is the roof?" --- I'm gonna get the exact car I want!

*dances* I'm so excited, I can't believe I'm excited about going into debt!!! But I am!

Let's Motor!
