Well, now that I've had a chance to drive my Mini around a bit, let me tell you...OMG SO FUN!
Of course, I'm coming from a pretty old car - a car that vibrated when you hit 40 and moaned and creaked as you neared 50 and made you crank up the radio once you were at 60.
The Mini? Well, it's dangerous. I can get up to 70 and feel like I'm going 20 because the ride is so quiet, so smooth.
And it's fully automatic - lots of little electronics in the key and in the car, such an upgrade from the escort, which had "child safety" locks - which means I had to manually unlock all my doors, even when I was on the inside of the car, before I could open them. The key has a little battery in it, and while it's in the ignition of the car, it re-charges the battery - pretty high tech stuff!
Of course, there's the whole convertible part. True, I'll probably have to wait a couple months to fully try it out, but let me just tell you, it's pretty sweet watching that hood roll back. You have the option of just pulling back the front bit, creating a "sun roof" of sorts. Or you can hold the button down longer and have it all come down.
The only downside is the back seats. Like most convertibles, the back seats are just sort of there for looks. I mean,
zaubervz can probably fit back there, but he's a beanpole of a kid. The fact that you can push the front seats so far back that they are up against the back seats? Yeah, it's a tight squeeze. But one person would probably be comfortable enough stretched out back there.
I'm still trying to figure out where everything is. I'll have to go and take a picture of the dashboard so you can see how ridiculous it is. Everything is in the middle of the car - the window controls, the speedometer, everything. So it's a bit crazy trying to figure out what buttons to press at the moment.
But I love it. I feel so very good about this purchase. ORNGRFL is totally my baby. I'm sending in the paperwork ASAP to get my personalized plates. Then WATCH OUT! hehe
