Jun. 30th, 2019 09:47 amI debated going by the library yesterday. It was my day off but we were hosting the Drag Queen Story Time, which I knew was going to be a huge deal. I ended up texting back and forth with my manager (it was her last day before retirement LOL) and things went relatively smoothly until the the second one started, then a protester came inside the library to start crap. BUT the police removed the man quickly. And let me say I now have a lot of respect for our new board member who was there with his granddaughter and also stepped in-between the shouter and the children. I'm just hoping they post another article with the positive things from the program and photos from the days event (the picture here was from the previous DQST that another of our branches hosted last October).
The staff in charge of the program put their hearts into it 110% and I'm so glad it went well apart from that one tiny incident. Both shows were FULL, so that is over 300 people who came to the library for the program so you can't deny that people wanted to see the program, that they wanted their children to have a fun time and learn that it is okay to be who you are, embrace the real you.

And this is my face as we approach my final week at my current library branch. I'm excited for the change and, of course, freaking out more and more every day. I've already decided that the toughest thing I will make myself do that first week on the job will be choosing which action figures come to live on my new desk to keep me company.
Today, I bid farewell to my manager for the past ten years. She's retiring and we're having a party this afternoon. I've been trying not to cry on her but I probably will today. She's just been an amazing mentor, so supportive, the kind of manager everyone should have and the one I will strive to be like as I start my career in that position.
I'm hoping my final selfie of the month will be with her as my special guest.
...though I should probably go shower or she isn't going to want to stand next to me! LOL TTFN

selfies for June 26, 27 and 28
Jun. 28th, 2019 10:37 pmApollo made the mistake of walking by while I was trying to take my selfie so I tackled him! This is his “why me?” face. #cats #selfie

Wanted to be fair and get Starbuck in the picture but she was not having it. She ran away, jumped in this box and then, even as I gave her scratches, she turned her face away from the camera! #cats #selfie

Just started this book a few nights ago, only 30 pages in an it is already got me! Creepy sci-fi! #books #selfie

Thought it would be fun to take today’s selfie with my favorite youtube show
outsidexboxofficial but I feel like
mikecuk28 and
farrantula heard me... #monthofselfies

Only TWO more selfies left and then it is JULY! I can still take a few more photo requests/questions/whatever for July.

I bought my Bastille concert tickets during the special "fan" presale and each ticket came with a free copy of their new album! They finally arrived today (thank goodness for Spotify so I've already heard the album a few times). I'm taking my Mom with me as she is a fan too and it is also right around her birthday so BONUS! I'll bring her the CD next time I see her. Not sure if she has listened to the album yet - I bought her Spotify but I have no idea if she actually uses it.
Steam summer sale started today and I'm trying to figure out where to hide my wallet! I don't really need anymore games, as you all know, but I did play 'Two Point Hospital' during the free weekend a few months ago and LOVED it and it is 50% off right now and I am SO TEMPTED! It's a ridiculous hospital management simulator. I mean, I played it pretty much that whole weekend non-stop so I guess I liked it!
It's back to being summer here again, in the 90s today, mostly because of the HUMIDITY. So sticky.
It was also my last Babies in Bloom program today. As a manager, I probably won't get to do as much programming though because I am in a pretty small branch, I could conceivably be the ultimate backup person. But, yeah, kinda sad about it. I mean, I was exhausted afterwards so if you had asked me right after I probably would have been relieved to be done, but now that I'm sitting here, I'm kinda sad.
But who knows! I know that they picked me for this position because of my programming and outreach skills and making connections so I'm sure I will be in charge of some fun events. Or at least be a part of them while my staff runs them and I just help out. IT IS GOING TO BE SO WEIRD!
I think I'll go play video games to distract myself. <3

It’s summer time and that means magic time! Joe Romano stopped by this afternoon to wow 3 audiences full of excited kids. Always fun to watch them think they have it all figured out only to be surprised by the reveal.
It was busy busy from start to finish today. First show of the summer and we had over 100 people for the first program. I was wiped by 5!
I've also realized that I can only play Horizon: Zero Dawn on weekends. That game is just too epic to try to only play for an hour. I need at least 2-3 hours of game time in a row and I can't do that on a weeknight without staying up WAY TOO LATE.
Weeknights are apparently for Steam games. I'm inconsistent with those because I keep remembering things I bought and stopped playing. Though I have made some headway on Shenmue and even though it is old, I want to find out who murdered his father and why!
I'm playing Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney at lunch, which is so much fun even though I'm sure I'm annoying everyone in the backroom with my constant giggles and the Switch vibrating every time I cross-examine a witness.

Discovered the joys of roasted cauliflower tonight! So simple and delicious!!! Finally watched the first episode of “Good Omens” too! (My hair is a little wild here because we mowed the lawn and then I had to shower off all the sweat and mosquito spit and it kinda dried a bit wild.)
Caught up on Attack on Titan as well and just WTF IS GOING ON ANYMORE? This show has got me so confused, I need a chart at this point. I want to rewatch the whole thing next time they go on break.
Dark is back on Netflix too, so excited to watch Season 2. Not sure when I will find the time but I will MAKE the time. The first season was so good!
Now, to pass out, because being out in the sun for an hour zapped all my powers!

Jun. 22nd, 2019 10:49 pmSUPER TIRED SELFIE

Want to know why? Because it was the LONGEST DAY EVER!
Tim's 2007 Honda Civic scared us into thinking it was going to die the day before but turned out to just be an problem with the A/C so we woke up early on Friday to go get it from the mechanic.
THEN we went to the bank to get a check for a car loan we were already pre-approved for but for some reason we just sat in the waiting room for 45 minutes. (I did find out my credit score is at 850, so that felt good to see).
THEN we drove to the dealership Tim had been in contact with. The dealer was so proud because they had sold the model we wanted a couple days before but had managed to get a new one on the lot right after that so we could test drive it. Honda Insight, hybrid. Tim liked it but the color was wrong - WHITE! No, thank you. So we said we wanted "Cosmic Blue" and "Crimson Pearl" (red) and they had one in Baltimore. So then we sat around there doing paperwork, making awkward small talk while he waited for the other dealer to call back with the VIN etc. and it was like 3pm before he finally said "Okay, it will be another 2 hours, did you guys want to go and come back when the car is here?" (at that point, we had signed away our money so they felt safe to let us leave).
As luck would have it, my parents live right around the corner so we got Chick Fil A and went over to say hi to my now-retired Dad. He was having a rough time, got some gross rash that he let get out of hand because he didn't want to use leave right before he retired (*sigh*) so he was on lots of medication. But we chatted for a few hours. He is worried about my brother and it shows so there were a few awkward moments where he would flip from being in tears because of something nice my brother said to being in tears because he was worried about him. I think some of it was the medication.
ANYWAY they finally got the car and we finally got to go home with it!
We were out and about from 10am until 7:30pm. LONG DAY!
Anyway, I'm fudging the definition of "selfie" for today because if I did a real selfie you wouldn't be able to see the car!

And Sylvia will get to drive the 2007 Civic tomorrow back up to her Mom's so she will have her own car. (no photo because she vetoed the ones that we took LOL, I think she was facing right in the sun and was all squinty...not that she reads my blog and would ever know but still)
Here's a bonus picture of Tim because why not <3

Got a lovely stack of letters from the elementary school students I visited last month for career day. My geekiness clearly made an impression on them. Not gonna lie, when I saw the cards on my desk, It made me think if the scene in ‘Love, Actually’ where Hugh Grant takes a moment for himself to go through the Christmas cards to the prime minister. #selfie #librarian #lovemyjob

I was leery of Toy Story 4 but all the reviews I have seen sound really positive! I saw the original three in theaters and I want to see 4 on the big screen. Love all of these characters (and that was before I knew Joss was a writer for the first movie lol). #selfie #toystory4 #collection
Selfie catch up, part II
Jun. 18th, 2019 10:02 pmWhoops! So, who got sucked into playing Horizon: Zero Dawn this weekend and neglected her friends list in favor of fighting giant robot monsters? THIS NERD!
But now I've come up against a Deathbringer and you can guess how much fun that boss battle is going to be so taking a break tonight so I don't go to sleep frustrated. Instead I will post the selfies from the last few days to catch you up! :D

Movie night - watched ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ which felt like a whirlwind Queen 101 lesson and, of course, had a very bittersweet ending. And a meta-Mike Myers/Wayne’s World joke that I’m glad they couldn’t resist.

Sleepy selfie. Almost forgot to take a picture! I did that classic Sunday move where you wake up late and have breakfast at 11 and then by the time you’re hungry again it isn’t quite dinner time so you just decide to hold out but then when you do finally eat, you crash. At least, that is what happens to me! Doesn’t appear to be a problem for Tim. (My Dad was not feeling well today so we postponed father’s day shenanigans until a later date. Goodnight!

It’s a little blurry but that’s because I was waiting for him to smile! Caught him!

Y’all sick of my face yet? Over halfway through a month of selfies! I treated myself to ‘Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney’ to celebrate my promotion.
farrantula raved about it on
outsidexboxofficial and during the panel at #paxeast and I knew he wouldn’t steer me wrong. Completed the first case and giggled every time Phoenix shouted “OBJECTION!” Very different from anything else I’ve ever played but already lots of fun!

Jun. 10th, 2019 11:14 pmMe downloading Fallout 76 for the free trial this week because WHY NOT!?

Bethesda is listening to the complaints and adding some NPC characters to give the world a bit more life. We will see if it is interesting enough to play. Tim is downloading it too so at least we can try together, which is kind of the point of the game.
I got news about a thing today but I can't talk about the thing. Hopefully I can say something later this week.

UPDATE: Surprise twist! and June 9 selfie
Jun. 9th, 2019 01:39 pmIn a shocking turn of events, when we got to the restaurant, they had a brunch special of beignets and I'd always wanted to try some, so instead of Knope/Swanson, I went full Princess Tiana!

They were yummy, though I would love to go south and have some proper ones. i mean, it was just fried dough and sugar so how can you mess that up?
They also had a special on Bloody Marys and with the week that was, I figured why the hell not? IT WAS STRONG! So I'm feeling pretty good right now. :D
Here's is today's selfie, with special guest star, my friend Stephanie:

It wants to storm outside. Wind is crazy. But at least the temperature has dropped. We opened all the windows in an attempt to switch out the air in here before it's time to lock it down again.

Jun. 8th, 2019 11:27 pmYou guys sick of my face yet? I think this is the furthest I have ever gotten on a monthly challenge! It is probably because I just need my face and I tend to have that with me at all time. :P

*star wars theme intensifies* nothing makes me happy the way Star Wars does. It has been a constant in my life, the fandom I snuggle up with when I just need some adventure. I love the new trilogy, even with it’s faults, and I am so excited to see the conclusion. I had to snag both of the Vanity Fair covers for Rise of Skywalker, though I don’t know if I will read the article - want to stay as spoiler free as possible.
So glad I was able to find these! There were only a few left at the grocery store. I couldn't resist getting both covers. Some day I should frame the Vanity fair magazines I have, though the problem is that I don't want to cut them all up to fit in a frame so it would be kind of bulky? Ah well. For now, they will just sit with my other Star Wars magazines.
Someone "donated" a copy of the OT on VHS to the library today. I fished it out of the trash to take to my Star Wars club meeting, figured someone there might want it for the box art. It says 1992 on the box so they should be the pre-Special Edition films. If someone has a VCR to watch them on. I still have my VHS tapes but the VCR is long gone.

It’s still a selfie if you can’t see my whole face, right? Twas my day off and I used the time to recharge mentally after yesterday’s full on drain. Played lots of video games and just chilled. Wanted to show off my P!atd shirt too! That’s my desk behind me, Leia says hi.
I picked up Horizon: Zero Dawn which, according to my most recent save file, I had not played since September of 2018. Oops. To be fair, the game made me mad. It is open world and I wandered into a zone and triggered a quest I was not prepared for yet. And I hadn't saved in awhile or something and I didn't want to go back at the time because I knew how much progress I had made. But after almost a year collecting dust on my shelf, I had forgotten pretty much everything, so rolling it back to a save that was the day before that last one wasn't as cringe inducing. And OMG I realized I had a bunch of really early quests I hadn't bothered to do that had equipment rewards/training and yeah...oops!
I was bad today and bought some stuff from Torrid...I mean, it was 40% off + another 5% because
Oh, and my Dad officially retired today! 25 years as a federal employee (and he had retired from the Navy before that so he has served his country well, yeah?) Anyway, my Mom said my Dad was home by 10:45 am and she emailed me around noon saying he had called her 3 times already. LOL. It's a good thing she is retiring too, though not for a few more weeks.
Anywayz, need to get to bed. Workin' tomorrow. Hoping it is chill, the weather is kind of blah - hot and cloudy, storms are lurking. TTFN
June 5th and 6th selfies
Jun. 7th, 2019 12:26 pmI work 1-9 on Wednesdays and Thursdays so I didn't go on my computer when I got home, hence the not posting them. But I did do them! This might be a record for me when it comes to daily memes. :P

Taken in the teen section of our library right around closing so as not to weird people out LOL. June is Pride Month and, of course, GLBT book month. There are SO MANY great books with LGBTQ+ characters out now. I mean, not nearly as many as S/W/M but still more than there ever was when I was growing up. "What If Its Us" is still one of the sweetest first love romances I have ever read. I saw a girl with it in her pile the other day and I might have "SQUEE'D!" at her for her selection.

This is my post-interview face. I think it went well. I swear, when I go into an interview, all the adrenaline goes to my brain and it feels like I am in a trance. Then it is all over and I'm like "OMG WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!?" I'm a little worried I might have been too casual - I knew everyone on the interview panel so it felt like I was just chatting with coworkers. But hopefully I hit on all the points I needed to. The thing that was so frustrating was that most of these were questions I had on my LAST manager interview. So I should have aced them...blah. Of course, I spent the rest of the day going over it all in my head. Luckily, I had a school visit about an hour later so that distracted me. But OMG SO EXHAUSTED! I went to bed at 10:30, UNHEARD OF for me. But I was just beyond drained.
Today is my day off! It's 12:30 and I'm still in my PJs. But I just finished my coffee so I guess I shall shower and try to do something semi-productive...like laundry. My favorite chore since the machine does the bulk of it and I just have to listen for the beep. :)
